Five dead, 18 injured in shooting at gay nightclub in Colorado, police say

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Nov 20 (Reuters) - Five people were killed and 18 injured in a shooting at a gay nightclub on Saturday night in Colorado Springs, Colorado, police said.

A suspect was in custody and was being treated for injuries after the attack at Club Q, Colorado Springs police Lieutenant Pamela Castro told a news conference.

Police got the initial phone call just before midnight about the shooting, Castro said, adding that upon arrival, officers located one person who was believed to be the suspect inside the club.

In its Google listing, Club Q describes itself as an "adult-oriented gay and lesbian nightclub hosting theme nights such as karaoke, drag shows & DJs."

I wish they'd report how he was able to obtain his "long gun," which is probably an AR-15 style rifle.

According to the June 18, 2021, press release from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, the reporting party “said her son was threatening to cause harm to her with a homemade bomb, multiple weapons and ammunition.

Did he purchase the long gun legally after the threats last year?

He bought it legally. After the bomb threats against his family last year, they refused to press charges, and without their testimony, the police didn't have a case — or so they say. There was plenty of proof that he was a danger to society but without a prosecution and conviction, preventing him from purchasing an AR-15 would have violated his Constitutional right to have the firepower to murder a large number of people in a short amount of time.
 
All this killing...it's just TOO much!!! I wonder how the murderers parents feel now that he's killed and injured all those people. I just saw a news report that said after what he did, he was able to be released because they refused to cooperate with the police. My grandmother used to have a saying "Let your conscience whip you". I hope their consciences whip the hell out of them! I also saw that attacks against LGBQ community members has increased and that authorities are worried about copy cats.

We just hear it more. People were always violent, it's who we are, frightened angry creatures looking to feel safe.
 
Hate crimes are up 44%...there is thriving and very real organized movements that are stirring and spreading lies and hate, we see it daily everywhere....it grows and grows, until people pick up ready and very available guns

Can't the DA press charges? I know nothing about the law. I do know of a local case from years ago where the family pressed charges and then dropped them because the victim was getting better. An adult son had severely injured his elderly father with a beating. Someone told me the DA picked up the charges. I could be totally off on this but it's what I remember. And that POS totally needed to go down for what he did.

Perhaps special circumstances due to elder abuse?
 
Every country has hate and division to some degree. Only the US has such idiotic gun laws, which enable the haters to take deadly action.

Appoint me as enlightened despot and I will ban all semi-automatic weapons, including handguns and rifles. Gun owners (who would be licensed and registered) would only be able to own bolt-action rifles, pump or double-barrel shotguns, and revolvers, greatly decreasing the lethality of such attacks.

This attack was stopped by a "good guy without a gun" (a straight white male btw) who disarmed the shooter, with the help of a drag performer and others. Thanking God for him and those who helped, mourning for those slain by this hate-filled loser, and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.

Gun control advocates see restrictions as a cure-all. If restrictions & controls worked, we wouldn't have a drug problem; after all, there are restrictions against illegal drugs.

I'm all for it. Just one question:
How would you suggest eliminating the thousands of semi-automatic weapons already in possession of criminals?
Ya know, that old "Locking the barn after the horses escaped...."

The catch, though, is too many individuals don't have consciences.
