I saw that on the news on Facebook yesterday, and today was reading that there is major flooding in Russia also. It looks like Europe is getting hit hard with the floods this year.
My daughter is in the Netherlands for her job, so I have been concerned about whether she was in an area where there might be flooding. She lives right next to one of the canals.

We have had a lot of rain here and some flash flooding but not in major proportions. Our river is high but now receding.

These floods in Germany are taking place just a few miles North of where my wife grew up, and where I was stationed in the USAF. I've been to several of the locations that have been impacted. Luckily, the areas where my wife lived have been spared, but we are watching the BBC channel frequently for updates.

Awful . Sure hope that Steinbach dam does not rupture. Hardly bears thinking about. Water can be such a destructive force when there is flash flooding. Not much protection from it if in its path. Hope no torrential rains in the offing and they can pull things back together and all the deaths, injuries and infrastructure damage

Used to live near the Dutch border in Nord-Rhein Westphalia so I know the area and the rivers well.

Used to shop in Roermond and frequently on a Sunday we (my wife and I) would cycle across the border into Holland, go into The Anchorage Tavern at Well, have half a dozen Harvey Wallbangers, cycle along the Meuse until we fell off, sleep where we lay (once we stopped laughing) until we woke up then cycle back and a couple more Harvey wallbangers to see us home.

All the more shocking when you know the place and had good times. there

yes indeed, it must be terribly shocking to have known a place and have such fond memories , and to see this devastation ...

Today they say that here are 157 dead and 1,000 missing,
there is a picture in a newspaper showing a big hole where
a village stood, now it looks like a brown Niagara Falls into
the hole.
