For the ladies only: Your opinion on changing styles

As an aside, I'm glad you asked about style. Could someone explain how to feel good in longer, hankerchief edged tops, sweaters, dusters? Getting in and out of the car is a hazard, sitting down pulls at your torso, closing doors grabs at the hems....well, you see my dilemma? Not to mention they are going out of style, and what the heck do you do with them then??
I would cut off the corners and hem it straight across. Usually the dresses and tops are long enough to make that an option.

I much prefer classic looks that don't ever really go out of style. Slacks that are properly hemmed, not ragged and torn, nothing slashed up and down the leg fabric. As for purses and back packs, I leave that to the younger generation. Also, the largest totes that you can pack for a weekend. Moderation is me, including gold jewelry. Eight chains around my neck and 14 bracelets worn at the same time doesn't suit me.

My closet is filled with t-shirts. I love collecting them from wherever I go, or favorite movies/TV shows, animal prints, tie dye, you name it. I wear them daily, along with capri pants mostly. I'm into comfy! The closet in the other bedroom holds my "special occasion" clothes, which I put in plastic bags so they don't get dusty. Now, if I could just get rid of all the bras in my drawer, I'd be a happy camper.
I'm on the same page, Carol. I will be so happy when bras go to the same museum archive as the corsets that our mothers wore.

I'm a hiker so have always had rucksacks/backpacks. The bag which was slung over one shoulder was called a duffle bag, not seen so much these days. The main problem with them is they are inconvenient (because everything is behind you), and the lack of security. It's easy for someone to creep up behind you and reach inside.

I wear what I want and the heck with what anyone else thinks. As long as I'm neat and clean, they should be happy.
Leggings or jean leggings with various styles of comfortable tops. My body.....my choice.

What is your opinion on the cute little backpacks over one shoulder? I like them a lot because I always thought "purses" were so "ole lady".
But, Now that I'm an "ole lady", are they something only the young should wear? Do you think they are "age inappropriate" for us?

I've been wearing leggings from, well, before they were popular and levies forever. What is your opinion of the "jogging pants"? (elastic ankles)
I'm not fond of the "fat pants" (as I call them) but the DO look comfortable. What are YOUR thoughts?

At our age, should we forget about fads and "styles" and just be comfortable? We arn't trying to impress anyone.
Or, is looking "cool" important to you? Do you have favorite clothes you wear over and over as you ignore the rest?
I wear what pleases me. I have a love of wool shirts in plaid, skinny pants, mock turtlenecks, anything khaki green, skinny jeans, and certain t-shirts, all cotton, bright colors. And camel and black together, but never black near my face.

I say, wear what you want. I've looked at 60+ women on the internet, who are very styllish, and they do not dress like old ladies. They would get stared at here, but they'd be elevating the culture around here.

Here's a more conservative take:

These outfits are more interesting (but not the site I was looking for), and everyone is either airbrushed to the hilt or had work done. https://www.letseatcake.com/women-over-60-amazing-style/

I wish I could find the really fabulous and chic site. I couldn't carry the clothes off, but they are wonderful.

Have you read the book that the lady wrote, can't remember her name now, about Why French Women Don't Get Fat? She offers a lot to consider when buying clothing. that's just my opinion. Some of the other information in the book is good too, why not fat, but I don't have as much memory about that part, just the clothing. Oh, get a scoop of a serving and not a plate full. I read the book a long time ago, so it's an old book now, like me. I resonated with her, although when younger I bought more than now due to being more active. I've rarely had any shoes on other than a slip on sneakers in a very long time. I wear them with dresses too. When it comes to clothing, I like pretty, casual and comfortable, so it can take a while to find what's right.

I just got a fanny pack crossbody style. Seems like the world is getting crazier all the time and even though I don’t carry cash, I’m worried about purse snatching. Keep minimum necessities. My normal leaving the house includes: jeans, t-shirt and my hiking boots. Except when it gets too hot then crocs. 🤣 Definitely not a fashionista.

I take a backpack every where I go but I keep it in the car. Don’t like carrying purses. I carry a small wallet in my pocket, phone in my other pocket. If I need to carry a few more items I carry across body wallet type thing.

The one trend/style I wish would disappear forever is ripped jeans.
I went shopping with a friend the other day and the “new” Jean trend I saw was to cut off the hem on jeans. So as you wash them they fray. What this said to me was, the jean companies up cycling their old jeans they could not sell before.
