I admired him too and thought him to be a source of wisdom. I met him once, at a train station in Garden City New York.
I asked him for directions on connecting to another train and he was amiable and helpful; he even asked about me: "...you're a college student? What might you be studying?" He offered a bit of counsel, nothing heavy or condescending only friendly, and this from a man who was a Somebody in the world to a nobody 19 years of age. He was a gentleman in the best sense of the word.
