Getting Things Done Or Do You Procrastinate?

We all have things that we must do and some things are more important or urgent than others.

One of the things I seem to really enjoy in retirement and aging is GETTING THINGS DONE in a timely and efficient manner. I am not one to procrastinate. Today for example I got about 6 must do things taken care of before noon and it delights me to no end.

If I've got something to do, I like to do it and get it over with. That way it's not hanging over my head nagging at me to do it.

I’ve never been a procrastinator; I like to get it done and over with. If it’s something that’s not important or I don’t want to do it, I might delay for a short time. But I want it off my plate.

I’m also a “to do” list maker, and I cross things off.

I make myself nuts with lists, maybe it's late onset ADHD but I begin three things, finish two and still have four more undone. Then I start a new list and try again.

I'm also known as the great procrastinator around here, especially when it comes to a job I hate to do -- like my windows, or a particularly dusty air vent that is hard to reach.

One way to trick myself to do certain chores is to tell myself I don't have to do it all, just a little tiny bit of it. Once I get started, I usually complete it. Or I do things in piecework, one section at a time.

OK, looks like I'm the only procrastinator here.

No, yer not! And especially as I get older, I kick back to consider, evaluate, line out method of approach, then figger it's too late in the day, now, tomorrow I'll git-r-dun.

Often don't happen. imp

I'm not a big list maker, but if something important needs to be done, I try to take care of it right away. Now, things like housework, I definitely put on the back burner if I'm not in the mood.

Depends on what it is. Descending order of importance. If I feel overwhelmed, then I do essentials, let the other stuff ride. Grew up with type AAA people, not willing to spend my life wired like a manic energiser bunny! Lolol.

Since my husband has retired, he's in the 'will do it later' category. Me? Total opposite. I'm ready to kill him.

Now, now! If he is newly retired, give him time before you kill him; the procrastination setting in upon retirement usually resolves itself without resorting to such harsh measure!

Noted Plainfield, Illinois on your profile: we used to zig down that way off of Ogden Ave. many times! imp

I was tired yesterday and I am retired today.

They sell tee shirts that say "If you ask me to do something, it will be done. there is no need to remind me every six months".

Lon, you sound exactly like my brother. I asked him why he thinks he needs to get all this stuff done and he says "So I'll have a reason to get up in the morning". I make lists, start something and then jump over to something else, forget what I was doing and tend to go in circles. If I didn't have my lists to keep me grounded I'd be in big trouble. I admit, sometimes I look in on the forum for a minute and then what I had started winds up undone till maybe the next day or next week.

Only at Christmas.... I will be working on it straight up to Christmas Eve. Every year I say it will be different.. but it never is.
