The Lace Monitor or Goanna as it is more commonly known can get to this size in Outback Australia too
People will tell you if you see one this size lie down because they can walk up and over you no worries
Their claws are a force to be reckoned with and a lizard bite or scratch takes a very long time to heal

Monitors aren't venomous but as carrion eaters you wouldn't want to be bitten by one. Or scratched by the claws. Peramangkelder is correct. The best thing to do is lie flat on the ground, otherwise the stupid animal may mistake you for a tree.

I was stationed at a USAF base in Thailand for most of 1967....and saw any number of large and dangerous lizards and snakes....both on and off the base. The worst were the Cobras....we had to be Very careful when walking at night....and I carried a flashlight anytime I ventured out after dark.

Took a walk with two buddies along a road to partake of the abundant weed available. We came across a huge cobra stretched out across our path. One of the guys suggested we walk around it. No way! It might have been dead or sleeping or lying in wait. I didn't care and made an about face hasty retreat.

As far as I know Komodo dragons are not found in Thailand. Other monitors, such as goannas and parenties, do not produce venom.
