Going to the doctor

Which I did yesterday.....Do you ever feel like your being rushed? Both the nurse before him, and the doc himself. They do the vitals, then ask questions, and while you're answering....they are walking toward the door & reaching for the door knob.

All the while saying , humm, uh-huh, ok, ..........very aggravating/annoying.

I think, depending on where Seniors live, in a small city/town or a big city, a doctor will have less patients or many more patients. Population dictates that. My wife's PCP told us once, in his office, how many patients he generally sees a week and we were both very shocked........a lot! Of course, currently, we live in a population of 931,000 people in the central area and 1.5 million in the entire area. Where we are moving to, the population is 87,000. Much, much more less.

i don't even go to the dr....all they'll do is want to give me every pill they have and every diagnostic test

That's great for you, but there are those of us, like wife and I, that are Diabetic II, or something else, and have to see a doctor two to three times a year to get Diabetic medicine and a couple of other meds for me.

I rarely go to the doctor and I have Kaiser insurance. The times I have gone I really don't feel too rushed, they do sit at their computers now punching in info while they're talking to you, but that's okay by me too. I go every several years for bloodwork, and if there was an issue like diabetes, I'd attempt to control it on my own without popping any prescription drugs. Only as a last resort would I start filling scripts. I like my visits to be short and sweet, over with as quickly as possible.

We are wimps when it comes to getting our $s worth. If the MD isn't paying sufficient attention to you, think about it, you could die. So vote with your feet if you must but the right thing is to insist (politely) that you are paying for a professional's attention and your not getting it. On the other hand, if you are an attention junkie ...

"attention junkie"...are you kidding me? What an asinine comment....I am talking about seeking the attention of a medical professional....a doctor, my doctor...about concerns I have regarding my health. Nothing more important IMO !!!

My doctor leaves no stone unturned to the point of annoyance. What always has ticked me off is whan the doctors are done they leave you in the exam room and close the door and there you sit until the assitant comes in with your forms or prescriptions. Why close the door? Why not wait in the reception room?

sorry you have diabetes....i take calendula(marigold flower oil) to stabilize my insulin output from pancreas...or i'd also be on those meds

I use a lot of oils but have not used this one. Just read a couple sites on benefits etc...

Do you take it internally. Drops of tincture or ?????

I am of the belief we can manage just about everything without the harsh drugs.

i take it in capsule form...in the beginning i took it 3 times a week....now...only once and it brought my blood sugar levels down

There are a few things that I won't tolerate in a doctor.

Number one is one that talks down to me. They will never see me again.

Another kind of doctor I won't tolerate Is the kind that tries to maximize their revenue based on the kind of insurance I have.

Do they think I'm so stupid that I can't see right through that?

They will never see me again either.

One thing that aggravates me is when seeing the dr first of all the medical assistant comes in & have to tell him or her the story, then all over again to the dr. Or paying a $50 copay to hopefully see a MD Specialist & getting a PA or NP that hears the story & says its serious enough that you have have to come back another day for another $50 to see the MD. I've put a stop to that, wil only accept MD or DO appointments.
And then there's all those snarky herbs & flowers people who look down their noses at people who want real scientific treatment for their medical problems.

They are not snarky etc as they just don't want to deal with the drug side effects and I haven't met a drug yet that hasn't given side effects....everyone has their choice and it's not a matter of looking down...it's all in your eyes. All the science and pharma = two peas in a pod.

And I believe if a pharma drug is really needed then I will do that and hold my breath for any side effects that do come on.

I have a great pcp who I see when needed. I usually ask any questions through their patient portal and then they will let me know if I need to come in or not. Sometimes his nurse will call me. I only go when absolutely necessary. Its probably more than others since I have stroke related issues. Once or twice a year when needed.

"I haven't met a drug yet that hasn't given side effects..."

And I have yet to meet an herb/seed/etc, yet that 'cures' anything, or even offers relief from anything.
And trust me.....I have tried allot of them. I don't like big-pharma either, but when desperate for relief ? Trying damn near anything is worthwhile .

I might still fall victim to the "hype" surrounding them ?.....even though I know not to expect anything .

Roll the dice.........

I have NOT met anything that has "cured" me. It's all management at 80 yrs and I'm happy with that. I'm happy to do NO more surgery as I did with hip replacement and that I live with complications now 8 yrs post op.

The pharma drugs like Celebrex for arthritis is what I have NOT taken as one needs to read the list of possible side effects..enough to scare me away.

Management and I'm not looking to have a 40 yr body as it's not possible.

Hoping the PRP I'm headed too will give me more high quality management.

I know another form gave me 3 yrs of pain free shoulder 10 yrs ago so I know it works...now if only insurance world did their parts....or a rich uncle came into my life.

And OP I believe you've talked about knee issues...you could also go for a knee surgery, then that could lead to another, then a joint replacement, talk about a crap shoot. I know some who still
have pain with artificial parts and went thru a long hard rehab.

Life and especially with aging brings pain to our bodies. Part of the wear and tear of aging.

Have avoided the meds mentioned, for the same reasons.

I don't desire a 40yr/old body either, I just want to walk to the coffee pot, pain free.

Been through 3 PRP sessions...No help

Am still saying no to surgery....so far.

I see the doc every 3 months, like clockwork. I get bloodwork every time. I'm on 'basic' maintenance meds for cholesterol and bp, all under control. The doc spends about 3 minutes with me, a few more once a year for the annual exam. I'm sure it's because I have medicare and supplement, and I don't pay anything and he gets a regular 'paycheck'.
Having said that, I'm at least constantly tested with the blood so I consider it good, preventative 'care'. If I have questions or concerns, the doc will answer them.
If my health was poor, I don't know how my relationship with the doc would change. I'm 68, work out 5 days a week including weightlifting, 'boot camp' and 2, high-impact aerobic classes. So, I don't quite fit the stereotype for someone my age.

So you did 3 PRP sessions and no relief, even some?

I had the original dextrose Prolo over 10 yrs ago on shoulder and got 3 yrs pain relief from the Dextrose Prolo.

I was doing dextrose Prolo in my knee back in 2016 and was doing good, getting relief, and the D.O. on the 5th session, hit a spot in my knee that really hurt and I ended up with staph infection from that jab....long story on that mess I went thru with hospital/rehabs and doctors negligence on finding staph infection.....

Could you try to find someone who does Dextrose prolo, lot less money too.

You know there is a lot of info on the Cholesterol Myth fear pharma has put out there. We need cholesterol and getting it too low is certainly not a good thing. Especially for the brain. I would not touch those statin drugs for the cholesterol fear. There is a statin diabetes connection too.

No worries about it getting too low. I'm barely in the range on the meds. I've gone off both my bp and cholesterol meds to get a 'baseline', and be sure I was being treated for something I really had. Yeah, bp and cholesterol both shot up without meds. At least I need minimal dosage. And yes, I'm aware of the controversy on statins. Not so much about cholesterol, but the heart-saving benefits.

There are many alts to work for cardio health: magnesium, COQ10, grape seed extract and diet and much much more. So much damage from the statins on many posts I've read on another group and one can find plenty of negative stuff on the statins like memory issues too.

My strategy works every time.....when making an aptm, I ask for extra time over the 15 minutes and they alway comply.....also call the office 15-20 mins ahead of time, ask if the doctor is running late so they see you on time when you get there....and I Always have a list of concerns and questions in my hand so the important things get addressed while they're taking notes on the puter.....I leave no stone unturned even with blood work results....I make an apptm for follow up to review every aspect of the report.....
