Goombay

I went to the Goombay festival this afternoon and ate goat curry. That won't be happening again. Not because I didn't like the goat.....I couldn't even taste the goat because mah mouf wuth on fire. Ith sthill on fire. It may never sthop burning.

Boy Howdy, that was curry with a capital C. I'm pretty sure my mouth won't be the only thing on fire tonight. Sometimes one has to learn one's lessons the hard way.

I knew a man who was a spice salesman. He told me there are many, many varieties of curry.

I have had some that was mild and other that was "set your gizzard on fire".

:lofl: My reaction after my first Malaysian curry.

Since then I've learned to eat hot curries with a lot of cooling sambals - fresh chopped tomato and onions, cucumber in yoghurt or coconut milk, sliced bananas, mango chutney, chopped peanuts and shredded coconut.

I layer the meal - rice first, then curry and some or all of the above sambals piled on top. Even the hottest curry can be enjoyed this way.

Oh my, you poor thing. There are so many places around here that serve goat. But like rabbit...no I can't eat cute things...just me. But the curry and pepper question. The secret is milk. Indian places serve yogurt lassi but even a milkshake on the side works wonders. Professional pepper eaters stuff dry milk powder into their mouths.

You remind me of a video my son made of he and his friends. Picture a group of twenty-something young men. Someone has the bright idea they will each consume a piece of Ghost Pepper. I won't get graphic but they were swilling from gallons of milk and puking. Only one bathroom in the place so it had to be nasty.

I ate seasoned & outdoor roasted goat for the first time in Libya and medium hot curry for the first time in Thailand......I liked both.

We eat vegetarian curry most nights - different ingredients - that my husband makes homemade - no packets or jars. I like it medium hot and he likes it very hot so he makes it medium and adds a hot sauce to his later.

I haven't had a curry with goat but I have had BBQ's goat in Uganda many times. If it's tender it's is Delicious!!!
