Got in a car accident today

...just going about my morning's plans, went to the hardware store, bought a couple fly swatters, paid cash, so I got coin change back. Decided to go to the car wash and vacuum out the interior, takes 5 quarters. Next stop was the grocery store, as I was turning Right into the shopping center parking lot BAM! Got hit by a car, right-side wheel well/quarter panel. The impact spin the truck around 90 degrees and was pushed over some sign post beside the parking area. Passenger-side airbag deployed, I was pretty stunned for a minute or two. My left elbow hit something, tore a large patch of skin off, I won't post the picture of that. My truck is totaled:

The car that hit me was traveling fast on the SIDEWALK. I overheard one Highway Patrol officer tell the other that the other driver admitted going about 60. But, then she told the officer that she didn't remember anything... :unsure:

The guy that does gardening and cleanup around the shopping center said that a lot of people come barrelling across the intersection, trying to beat the red light.

My elbow's a mess, will be wearing a bandage for a while. My upper back already feels sore, more so than average. I filed an accident report with my insurance company, I don't know if the other driver has insurance or not, I guess we'll find out soon enough. No truck, rats. I've got a bunch of tree limbs to haul to the dump. Maybe I'll rent a dumpster for a week, just to get rid of all of it.

Life sure can change quick, when you least expect it.
 
OMG! Well I know exactly how you must be feeling having been hit and my car totalled just a few months ago by a female driver.. Oh thank goodness you're not seriously hurt, altho you'll be in pain for a while I know... but you're probably more upset about losing your car.. as I was , due to the actual stupidity of the other driver.

Poor you Nathan.. hope you feel better soon... šŸ¤—

BTW did the police arrest her for driving on the pavement ?

Me too, just last fall but mine was totaled by a male Uber driver. Better luck next time Nate.

I don't have any information yet, she decided she needed to be transported to the hospital. The Highway Patrol officer gave me a card with a QR code that directs to CHP | Online Crash Report System, I created an account to log on and access information, but I guess the officers haven't yet posted their reports.

well they''ll probably arrest her at the hospital. It's a ruse some choose to take when they're in the wrong, they often feel that they won't be arrested if they're in a hospital bed...

I've decided to pretty much clear my calendar for the week. I gave my insurance carrier my statement, which coincides with the Highway Patrol officer's findings.
 
Sorry to hear of you're bad luck (wrong place/wrong time). As you mentioned, life can change in the blink of an eye and without warning. Hope you heal up as quikly as can be expected. Dealing with the insurance mess & finding a new ride are additional things I'm sure you aren't looking forward to :(
 
@Nathan I am so glad you werenā€™t hurt worse.

You said your truck is likely totaled, I assume thatā€™s due to its age because it looks to be in really nice condition or at least it did.

if all it needs is a new bed, is there any chance you can buy it back and put a new bed on it or is the frame that isnā€™t a frame bent all to heck.

It's kind of ironic, I had a medical appointment this morning, but with all the mess I had to cancel it.
 
Oh geez,, I'm beginning to feel like this forum has a special curse hanging over it, with car accidents to our members being caused by some other driver doing something crazy. Sounds bad enough, but thank God at least it wasn't anything even worse.

You're not asking for advice, but anyway: get yourself to a doctor ASAP, just to make sure you're OK.
