If you've won field day ribbons: What event(s) did you win?

I never received a ribbon for it, but I did get medals for running the 100 meter dash in school, districts and state, which I took second.
I won the district championship at 11.4 seconds. I took second place at state for the 100 meter in 11.0 even. The champion won at 10.4.

I received a ribbon for who could drink the most milk at lunch. It was a phony trick by the football team. I used to drink four cartons of milk and two lunches at lunch everyday, so one day, some of the guys on the football team went around the cafeteria asking other students to give up their milk as a gag. I think there was something like 70 cartons of milk, but I could only drink 20 some before I decided to stop.

They made up a paper ribbon and hung it on my locker.

You people must be young. We didn't have field day when I was in grade school, but my kids did.

I did the 50 yard dash in 7.2 seconds in the 7th grade. That was 2nd fastest in my class. The dude who was 1st did in in 6.6 but he was older than everyone else because he flunked two grades.

I did the 100 yard dash in 12.1 in High School. That's almost 10 yards shorter than the 100 meters. Still, it was one of the better times in my PE class but not good enough to try out for track. At least that's what I told myself because I didn't like to run.

I forgot all about Field Day back in grade school. It was always in the springtime and it was pretty much a huge recess time all afternoon. I did win a couple of ribbons for the long jump but I don't think there were many others competing.

I was pretty good at the high jump but no records were kept. Then i became a teenager and lost all interest.

I think you probably would have increased your speed if you would have tried out for the team. I found that if I really wanted on the team, I had to mentally prepare for the tryout and on the day of the tryout, I got a sudden rush of adrenaline, which gave me a burst of energy.

I may have been a fast runner, but when I tried out for Cross Country, I had no desire to run that type of course, so I didn’t do very well and I dropped out even though the coach urged me to try again. I told him that I didn’t like running up and down hills in all kind of terrain.

I went out for football, quit that. Went out for swimming, quit that. If I had went out for track I would have quit that too. I'm basicly a lazy person. I didn't have your motivation to try to do things that were hard. That's why you were in the Marines and I was in the Air Force. :D

When I played football, I was the wide receiver and kick returner because I had decent speed. Lucky me, I was never hurt. However, in my junior year, I had a really bad chest cold that turned into pneumonia and put me in the hospital. I missed the last 2 games, which we lost and ended our season. We never made the district playoffs.

I only went out for spring practice one time. That was a total of 20 practices which is what you were allowed at that time. Shorts, T-shirts, and helmets. No pads. Coach wanted me to be a pulling guard. But every time they called that play in practice I ended up behind our star rumnning back instead of leading the blocking for him. I just wasn't fast enough to get there. But at our 50 year reunion I found out that after graduation he had gotten fat and died of a heart attack a few years before. So I'm faster than him now. :)

We never had any school events called "Field Day". Nowadays, I would assume it would be necessary for everyone to at least receive a participation ribbon so no-one feels left out.
Unfortunately, you're probably right.
