I never received a ribbon for it, but I did get medals for running the 100 meter dash in school, districts and state, which I took second.
I won the district championship at 11.4 seconds. I took second place at state for the 100 meter in 11.0 even. The champion won at 10.4.
I think you probably would have increased your speed if you would have tried out for the team. I found that if I really wanted on the team, I had to mentally prepare for the tryout and on the day of the tryout, I got a sudden rush of adrenaline, which gave me a burst of energy.I did the 100 yard dash in 12.1 in High School. That's almost 10 yards shorter than the 100 meters. Still, it was one of the better times in my PE class but not good enough to try out for track. At least that's what I told myself because I didn't like to run.
I went out for football, quit that. Went out for swimming, quit that. If I had went out for track I would have quit that too. I'm basicly a lazy person. I didn't have your motivation to try to do things that were hard. That's why you were in the Marines and I was in the Air Force.I think you probably would have increased your speed if you would have tried out for the team. I may have been a fast runner, but when I tried out for Cross Country, I had no desire to run that type of course, so I didn’t do very well and I dropped out even though the coach urged me to try again. I told him that I didn’t like running up and down hills in all kind of terrain.
When I played football, I was the wide receiver and kick returner because I had decent speed. Lucky me, I was never hurt. However, in my junior year, I had a really bad chest cold that turned into pneumonia and put me in the hospital. I missed the last 2 games, which we lost and ended our season. We never made the district playoffs.I went out for football, quit that. Went out for swimming, quit that. If I had went out for track I would have quit that too. I'm basicly a lazy person. Unfortunately, you're probably right. We never had any school events called "Field Day". Nowadays, I would assume it would be necessary for everyone to at least receive a participation ribbon so no-one feels left out.
