Grocery shopping online - have you tried it?

I have been using aldis
delivery service for over a year but I stopped for a while and did my own shopping and that didn't go well with the way people wear their mask

half on their face so I went back to Aldi's delivery and they've been doing very good.

I was just disappointed yesterday because they didn't have any eggs in this store only those kinds in the carton the liquid ones egg substitute in I didn't want that.

For the most part though I've been very happy with their delivery service.

Not this kid! I am so isolated here that it makes me sick. I'm lucky because I can walk to a local grocery store & get my basics there. At least I see some living people. When I go to a large store like Superstore, I see these immigrants running with these funny looking carts picking out groceries for home or store pickup. I can see that it is a good idea if you have mobility or major health issues that prevents you getting out to shop. But I'm OK! I hate the idea of seniors being more and more isolated every year. If you think you can sit in your "ivory tower" all the time without human contact, all the more power to you. Me, I take all the recommended safety procedures but I enjoy heading out to get my groceries. It's nice to see people around; after all we humans are social animals. Isolate us too long & we get "funny".

Just because someone gets grocery delivery service doesn't mean that they have no human contact at all

We haven't been to a store since the pandemic began. We get most of our food from King Soopers (Kroger's) and some from Whole Foods.

Occasionally, there are problems, like we ordered Oatnut Bread and they delivered mini-slices instead of the full size. I didn't even know they had mini-slices! I guess we might have ordered that by mistake. For the most part, we get what we want. I don't think we'll ever go back to in-store shopping. Ordering online is a big timesaver, and it saves wear and tear on the car.

Once the pandemic is over, we can just go to a store if we want to see people, like in an anthropological expedition. 😄

Early during the pandemic, I looked out the front window and there was a young couple piling bags and bags of groceries on the sidewalk in front of my house. I opened the door and asked what was going on. They had the wrong house.

After going to Walmart numerous times for some grocery shopping, and getting fairly bad diarrhea after each time, we decided to the online "curbside pickup". Was ordering on our iPhone, thru the Walmart app, then found ordering to be easier on our desktop. We always check "no substitutions". We don't buy meat, fruit (other than canned fruit) or vegi's. We go to Safeway for that stuff. Our Safeway is a whole lot less crowded than Walmart is, but the costs for the items we buy thru Walmart are most definitely more expensive.

As far as how accurate our "curbside pickup" is with Walmart, not really any problems at all. But, have figured out that if not ordering/pickup the same day, there can be items that go out of stock. For example, when doing an online order on Monday, for a Tuesday pickup, the order won't be done until Tuesday. So, things ordered on Monday may not be available on Tuesday.
I'm curious to know why a trip to the supermarket gave you diarrhoea.

I have tried out grocery shopping online to make sure that I know how to do it when some time in the future I am unable to shop personally.

For now, I prefer to drive to the shops and select my own food but I might not always be able to drive or have the strength. As long as I have my wits and a computer I will still have some control.

It’s something I‘ve considered and may have to do if the numbers become really bad. I like to choose my one meat. Short stale dates for bread & milk really bother me. Last week one major store had milk (gallon size) that was short dated at 5 days. I’d be really upset to have that arrive at my door.

For delivery I’d expect to tip (no idea how much). Do you also tip when you pick up at the store.
Never had a problem with expiry. Yes I tip online usually 10%. No for pick up at the store as I have already tipped when I ordered. I assume the person bringing out the groceries receives part of that tip. When I pick up my next online order (Sun.) I will ask the person.

Love it! Been using it for a couple of years before Covid19 via Peapod. They discontinued service in my area early this year so I tried Aldi via Instacart, then switched to Jewel. They seem to be out of a lot of things and substitute higher priced items! Then in the summer WalMart started making deliveries in my town. They are the best and I am quite satisfied with food, price and service. I tip $5.

I'm curious to know if you folks have had good results with frozen foods like ice cream or specialty items that need a little care like flowers, baked goods, meals from the deli, etc...

I have visions of things being in a soggy jumble when they arrive.

Once when I went to pick up an order my ice cream was soup and I was mad. Everything that day was room temp like they'd left it out. They heard about it too. I have not had any trouble otherwise with things being destroyed. I haven't bought flowers that way but I don't know that I would consider that a very good idea.

I've had better luck with my ice cream stability via delivery.

Been online ordering for years now....Aldi's shopper screwed up once....their extra charges are absurd (Instacart) but the quality of product is great except for produce....it spoils too quickly. Their texting method on substitutes is great....no room for errors

Walmart's deliveries aren't all that great.....lots of dented cans and boxes....then I have to call and complain....and they don't deliver lots of products that may spoil or break, i.e. chips, chocolate, dairies, frozen and refrigerated and meats....aerosol cans neither.

Giant Foods, named Martins in our area is the best, using Peapod.....I online order then pick it up in the parking lot, free of charge, everyone wearing a mask, with no signature required. Not gonna pay a delivery charge when the store is five minutes from my house....

I do the pickup, not the delivery, but all cold food is cold/frozen, as it should be, and no real problems with other stuff, as I said above. Wal Mart puts your frozen/cold stuff in little fridges until you pick it up, so it stays as it should be.

I have been doing online grocery shopping for quite a while now and I love it. Most of the time I have it delivered and occasionally I pick it up outside the store. I have never had a problem either way. I feel like it makes things so much easier for me and my husband than walking around the whole store with all the other people. The delivery guys are always nice and there has never been a problem with the food. I use Acme or Shoprite.

All of my frozen items have usually been fine and still frozen but there was one time when I got some ice cream and it was leaking a little bit when it was hot in the summer and I complained about it.

The next time I got ice cream it was just fine still frozen and hard like a brick.

I have never bought flowers from Aldi's and I don't think that they have them but I have gotten some baked goods and they've been just fine.

If you really want to know what a delivery service is like in your area I think you need to try it and see and then you can judge for yourself.😊
