Queensland woman, Karla Blowers, just won the world practical pistol shooting championship for the second time beating all of the heavily sponsored competitors for USA, Europe, Russia etc.
Ms Blowers started her career shooting at about 14 years old and has spent many years training to become the best of the best.

She does not hurt anyone as in contact sports, risk her life or those of other competitors as in motor sports nor cost large amounts of public money to pay for her equipment and training as in just about every other sport yet a small amount of whingers are afraid that the skills she has acquired will endanger people.

I congratulate these girls and their teachers for having the open mindedness to allow training in the only sport that is part of the Summer Olympics, Winter Olympics and Commonwealth Games.

We have some excellent marksmen and women. My own grandfather's brother was a sniper in WW I and was awarded a military medal.
During WW II he shot and killed a man who was stealing a chicken from his farm and was charged with murder. The charges were later dropped. I suspect the reason might have been that it didn't look good to convict a war veteran and hero during the second world war but I do think he was probably guilty.

It's not the skills by themselves that are dangerous but certain skills combined with a particular mindset can be very lethal. That is one reason why professional boxers should never punch anyone outside the ring.

My father was a member of a pistol shooting club many years ago. His permit to own this gun required him to keep it unloaded in a safe when not being transported to the shooting range.
