I have found a job! I am not complaining but, I am almost three times older than the people I am working with. They are friendly but sometimes if I get stuck and look for help or ask for help some of them don't want to help. New computer programs are popping up all the time and asking someone what to type or what button to push is sometimes necessary for anyone.
Yesterday I started something new and the person sitting next to me seemed to resent the fact that I asked her a question. She got up and moved to the back of the room to get away from me. People who are already trained and who have used the programs before or who just work faster sometimes make it difficult for others, no matter what age they are.
Do companies actually know how much money they lose when they hire people and lose them in less than a few weeks? I am not in jeopardy of losing my job but I see a revolving door of people coming and going. Some companies have hiring ads all the time because they can't keep people working.
If I owned a company I would put more effort in keeping my people and make the necessary changes that would allow me and them to keep a job. I think so many companies end up going out of business just because they don't know how to keep employees. I guess they don't care, but it seems like it cost more to have a revolving door of people than it does to work with them and keep them in the company.
Hiring and training seniors who want to work part time would be an asset to any company. When they have someone off work to have a baby or for any reason they would have someone to fill that position. Temporary employees are not specifically trained to do all jobs, so why would they not keep a solid work force at all times? I don't understand.
