Apologies @horseless carriage it Dolly is a national treasure for many reasons and deserves her own thread.😇😇

Besides her prolific song writing ability. Dolly is quite a philanthropist. Her most notable being the Imagination Library for small children everywhere.

Tennessee‘s governor declared January 19th as Dolly Parton Day.

The city of Nashville got five brand new snow plows and held a name contest for them in the county schools. One winner was “Dolly Plowton”.

Everyone has their own opinions regarding entertainment figures, but Dolly is a non-confrontational entertainer. Even if you don’t like her music, there’s no reason to not like her as a human being.

Happy 80th Dolly💐💐

I happen to like most of her music... I think the music industry will be a sorry place when she passes....

Happy Birthday Dolly.....

"Puppy Love"
was Dolly's first single, written at age 11 and performed at 13.

Dolly holds the world record for having a Top 20 hit on the US Hot Country Songs chart in each of the last seven decades. She's the only artist to have accomplished this. 🏆

A lot of people don't know that Dolly wrote that song and, I think, sang it better than Whitney with a slower build. She said later that she wrote it for Porter Wagoner when she had to leave his show. That's where I first saw her when she was just the girl singer who did a few numbers.

I think she's just a wonderful person, never took herself too seriously, and these days almost everything she does is for charity.

I've known all along that she wrote that song... what people might not realise is that before Whitney, Elvis wanted to record the song, his manager Tom Parker, tried to get Parton to agree to allow Elvis to have 50% of the publishing rights of the song...she refused point blank , so EP was able to perform the song, but was never allowed to record it...

Forgiven, you are right, Dolly is a bit special. She wrote "I Will Always Love You" in 1973 as a professional farewell to her mentor and duet partner Porter Wagoner, expressing gratitude and respect for their time together while announcing her departure for a solo career, not a romantic breakup, a poignant story that became even more famous through Whitney Houston's iconic cover.

Parton had a successful seven-year partnership with Porter Wagoner, co-hosting The Porter Wagoner Show and recording hit duets. Parton decided to leave the show to pursue a solo career, but Wagoner initially resisted, wanting her to stay. To communicate her decision and appreciation, Parton wrote "I Will Always Love You," a heartfelt goodbye that respected their bond but confirmed her need to go. She sang it to him the next morning; he was moved to tears, realising her resolve, and agreed to let her leave, even producing the recording. While it sounds like a romantic ballad, it's a song of professional parting, a rare respectful breakup in music, as one source notes.

The song gained monumental fame and became a global phenomenon through Whitney Houston's iconic cover for the 1992 film: The Bodyguard, making it the best-selling single by a female artist.

According to Wiki, The Bodyguard was released on November 25, 1992. The film grossed $411 million worldwide ,yet it received unfavorable reviews from the critics. The film's accompanying soundtrack by Houston became the best-selling soundtrack album of all time, with sales of over 45 million copies worldwide, and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. The lead single "I Will Always Love You," achieved unprecedented worldwide success, selling over 24 million copies, and is still the best-selling single in history by a woman as well as the best-selling single by a female artist of all time.

I followed the breakup. A "rare respectful breakup" is an over-simplification of what occurred. He sued her for 3 million; she paid out 1 million, and I have a 1980 record album which also came about from that LAWSUIT.
