Has political correctness taken a lot of the joy out of Christmas?

I remember the Christmas parties in elementary school with little gifts exchanged and punch and cookies and the custodian coming in the room dressed as Santa. The Christas tree now has to be called a holiday tree. It seems like like the effort at recognizing all religions at once diminishes all of them together. Your thoughts will be joyfully accepted in the spirit of an all inclusive festivus...
 

Ralphy, one of my best Xmas holiday memories is hosting a wonderful festive dinner, surrounded by relatives, and "family of choice." Imagine if you will, Jews, Muslims, Christians, sikhs, pagans, and agnostics, all gathered joyfully together. Children, adults, young and old. That is Xmas to me.
 
I think we have discussed the BOGUS "war on Christmas" before Ralphy... It's a favorite whine of the Right. Have you walked down or seen pictures of every major thoroughfare in just about every city in the USA...?? Looks like Santa's balls exploded... for crying out loud... Stars, snowflakes holly, trees, tinsel, ornaments, sleighs and reindeer, elves, gingerbread... Christmas carols ad nauseum.... where the Right gets the idea there is a WAR.. or the JOY is removed from Christmas.. I have no idea

its good to remember that the Pilgrims banned celebrations at Christmas. The celebrating of Christmas evolved in America...and became a healing thing after the Civil War. It's a time to come together with family and friends. I know the commercial aspects of it seems to dilute the celebration. Santa never went shopping..far as I know. He had those elves making gifts..and he sure loves giving and making kids happy.

Some Christian religions do not celebrate Christmas...and do not participate at all. They don't have to. Happily, nobody has to embrace the religious aspects of Christmas. America guarantees us that freedom.

I love that people turn their eyes to giving and acts of charity. It's true this should happen all year...but this is like the season of giving. I'm totally fine with that.
 
I hope everyone realises that Christmas doesn't start until December 25 and it extends until January 6.
This period before Christmas is popularly known as The Silly Season, for obvious reasons.

Boxing Day is December 26 which is not in the Silly Season. It is squarely in the Christmas season.

Boxing Day is very serious. It is the start of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and the beginning of an international test match (five day cricket match).
To mark these important religious festivals we have a national public holiday.
And we get sunburnt.
 
OK, I found one that should cover everything:

That sounds like a great time, Shali. Wish I had been there. Must have been some really interesting conversations.
 
You would have been most welcome Underock. The conversation was lively and interesting. The music fabulous. I was able to participate in circular folk dancing for the first time.
