Have We Really Dumbed Down This Much?!

When I went to replace the battery in my smoke detector the other day, I was amused when I saw the warning. Here are more warnings for those whom manufacturers and other entities must think are very stupid customers and patrons. Funny!

I think I posted a thread on this not that long ago. It's lawsuit paranoia to the point of downright silliness! Welcome to America! Oh yes, mine started with a certain high profile person who thought injecting Lysol into our bodies might cure Covid-19!

The U.S. has the highest number of lawyers in the world...per capita. Companies put these seemingly "silly" warnings on their products to try to protect themselves from the ever increasing number of "frivolous" lawsuits filed by those who fail to use their products in a safe and sensible manner. If people weren't so dumb, half our lawyers would be out of business.

I am not surprised to see those signs above. I have been saying for a long time that we live in a "dumb and dumber" society and those prove it. I see it all the time in modern movies, which I don't watch. Smart people are not trusted but stupid people are fast becoming our heroes and idols. Go figure where this is leading us?

I recall reading a Robert Heinlein book many years ago about an alternate universe. The protagonist in the story was looking through a yellow pages directory and noticed no listings for lawyers. When he asked about it, he was told of the day of the lawyers, when all of them were put to death, and how society was transformed into a system based on personal responsibility. Hmmmmm

Not to worry. There is always a job for them in Washington DC

Actually, there is a long thriving legal industry, especially in states like California and New York where people, often chronically unemployed, without anything much productive to do with their pathetic lives, actively look for ways they can fake misusing products by deep pocket manufacturers or become injured on government or deep pocket corporations properties. Turn on any marginal tv channels where such legal groups bombard viewers with ads. Not too often, corps will settle out of court if a suit is not outright dismissed as frivolous, not because they don't expect they get easily beat such cases but because the way our politician controlled legal system works, it is way more expensive to involve their legal teams. Of course, a high percentage of politicians are in fact lawyers that reflects a lack of systemic balance.

So didn't you find a rat's head in your MacDonalds soup?

Of course, all the rest of us pays for this out of product costs and limitations on reasonable freedom, while scammers and lawyers retire down at Pebble Beach playing golf. As a snow skier for decades, the ski industry has had to excessively protect itself in a long list of ways finalized with actual legislated laws because they had enough political clout to override lawyer resistance.

Tesla here in their Fremont factory, was successfully sued for $$$ millions by a contract security worker for harassment including using the n-word by building construction sub-contractors while using elevators. So NOT Tesla employees they had control of. The supposed complaint was not brought to the attention of Tesla, just the contract employer that didn't pass the information along. That ridiculous case was so easy that just this week another female Tesla floor worker is making another like claim and one can expect several other liability lawyers with like clients are piling on. Worse, the state legal team given ethnic advocate pressure became involved, also making claims and that was a significant reason Tesla moved corporate headquarters to Austin, Texas.

Not only is this irritating I think it is self defeating. All these stupid "warnings" detract from the rare actual warning people do need. Most of us just pay no attention. So many user manuals or instructions now are mostly these stupid warnings...

Lot of truth in that.
