Having a total knee replacement today.

I need to have mine done. Hubby thinks I should get both done at the same time. He fears that after the first one I won't want to do the second one. I think I will have to wait until we can afford the surgery (insurance stinks) and a new one-story home. I just can't go down a flight of stairs on crutches!! Ugh. Wish you all the best!
Part of the rehab therapy is tackling stairs. You should be able to do this within 3 weeks of the surgery. In the meantime, camp downstairs.

I found a wheely walker with a seat to be very valuable post surgery. If it is the right height for you it does allow you to walk with confidence using a more normal gait and with a straight back. Plus they come with a handy carry space and you can sit down and rest when you need to.

Unfortunately we don't have have a full bath downstairs. My mom had a Rollator. It was a great help for her lil ole 95 year old self! I'm not sure if they make for 5'8"!;)

Most surgeons here won't do both at once. I wanted to do both my hips at once, but my surgeon said no. He said both at once was too much "insult to the body" and made recovery harder. So I had the first one done and then the second 30 days later.

I have done the steroid/cortisone shots, the wellness shots including the rooster comb shot. Over the years I received relief from these different shots but recently they did not help and I was back in the doctor's office after one week and he recommended a knee replacement. X-rays showed bone on bone and a lot of arthritis. So, here I go and it will turn out great.

Good luck! My late father had both of his replaced in the mid '80s (he was in his early 70s) and he was tickled pink with the results. He had arthritis real bad. I'm 69 today and no sign of knee problems, so I guess I dodged that bullet.

I am sure it will be a day or two until we hear from you, but, by the time you read this, I hope you are doing well. Bet when you read this they will have had you up walking already. I was walking two days after my hip replacement.

They are adjustable but only so far. My rollator isn't tall enough for my husband. I'm 5'1" and he is 6 foot tall. When he used mine he was stooping over. I convinced him that he needs a man sized one which is much better for him.

I have some encouraging info. I have a diabetes support group that meets twice a month at my house. A couple in their 70's missed a couple of meetings & we were told he was helping his wife after a knee replacement last month. We were worried because she has other health issues.
Today, they both showed up. She had a walker in the car but she didn't use it, which surprised me. To get up to the 3rd floor, they had to climb 18 stairs, then go back down the stairs 2 hours later. I was surprised that she was able to do it after only 5 weeks.
Three other guys had knee replacements & they all took photos of that scar for comparison. :)
