Heard from an old "friend"

I am really miffed at my aunt. I just received a call from her saying that crazy woman called her asking for my phone number. My aunt gave it to her! She went on to say that the woman told her she had called my other aunts and some cousins (don't ask how she knew THEIR numbers) asking for that info. She must be getting desperate to get her hands on that valuable antique. All I can do is block "Crazy Lady's" phone number (or the one I know she had last).

If it were me, I would be speaking to the local police for advice as to what action I could take to make sure the crazy lady stays as far away from me as possible. I would be looking at taking an injunction against her to prevent her from contacting me, my friends and relatives as well as barring her from coming to my home or neighbourhood.

Id tell her you no longer got it , as you sold it when you had a run of bad luck and if she wants to know who bought it ,just say the buyer wanted to remain anonymous.
If she wants to come round say you no longer have visitors since your Dog bit the last one .
Under no circumstance open the door to her .

I would contact law enforcement and explain the situation to see if you can file a harassment charge against her or get a restraining order.
I would also put that item either in a safe deposit box or with someone you trust, she sounds like she's unhinged and I wouldn't take the chance of her attempting to break in.
With your phone number it's very easy to do a reverse lookup and get your address.

I am just wondering after all these years why she suddenly wants to get back together and "do lunch". Probably has some poison to slip in my food to hurry my egress along. She doesn't know I changed my will.
When their own family warns you of them, that's a huge red flag!

And btw, that scrimshaw is probably worth a new car value, I'm talking BMW-TESLA.

Scrimshaw whale teeth prices range from $1,200 to $11,000. A signed Susan’s tooth by Frederick Myrick can fetch over $50.000 at auction. Some pieces even with a simple design sell for a few hundred dollars.

She may have harassed your aunt into giving her your information so don't be too hard on her. My husband would have done the same thing since he doesn't think like she does, believing that everyone is trustworthy. The police won't do anything since she hasn't really damaged you but it is worth filing a report to have a record of her nonsense.
Today, it is easy to block numbers and messages so just do it. If she shows up at your door, do not answer. I had a grade school teacher who used to say "I hear you knocking but you can't come in". Be careful who you let in your world.
I have heard many similar stories and had the experience of going to Grandpa's house after his funeral to find it ransacked. Some people just don't understand boundaries and you can't teach them what they should have learned as children.
Stay safe.

My main gist is why my aunt would give out my number without my prmission.

FYI ....getting a phone number can be easily done on an Internet search by anyone who wants it.

I'm surprised at your surprise, because you've posted all your personal information, including your house address, on this public forum (SF) for years - house selling documents, bills from companies, etc. Why ⁉️

And is anyone on this board going to do anything about it?

I give info out on Marketplace. How can people come to get things if I don't tell them where I am? And they live closer than anyone else on this board, to my knowledge.

You miss my point about the board being public.

I like old friends getting back in contact with me, but not the type of letter you received. I believe they charge now to change your phone number, at least they do around here, but I would consider doing that. I know it's a pain because then you have to get in touch with everyone and give them your new number and if one of them gives it to your "crazy lady," then it was all for nothing.

Maybe just confront her and tell her you are asking her nicely not to contact you anymore. Or, block her number.

Did you tell your aunt that you were avoiding this ‘friend’?
Yes, I explained it to her when it happened and I reiterated it when she called me. She said she remembered and begged my forgiveness for doing it.

You'd think after I ignored her last several emails, she'd give up. But to call my relatives to get private info is something I can't get my head around. Something is going on with her.

I believe I mentioned already that after I moved and got a new phone number, she couldn't contact me, so she called a town official! He called me to let me know and said he didn't give her my number. I thanked him for that.

Waiting for the next 70+ posts if Deb decides to expand on this thread.

Went from describing
1.getting great help for free
2.to no help
3.to greed by the ex friend
4.to describing the ex friend as crazy lady
5.to being pissed at an aunt
6. to misunderstanding the the personal information she has posted over the years makes it easy to find a phone number.
7. to understanding that a phone number can be found on the internet but is still pissed at the aunt.

Deb countering suggestions helps a lot to keep such a really interesting topic alive.:D

I blocked the number I remember her having, but it's an old land line number. She could have a cell phone now with a number I don't recognize or use someone else's phone, or call from where she works. My aunt said she mentioned she's working for a county department.

The woman is obsessed.I'd go ahead and send it to the museum. That would flip things from the annoying woman to knowing people are getting pleasure out of it. Would be wonderful if you could visit and see it on display.
Why not just give the scrimshaw to the museum now and get it out of your house?

The woman is obsessed. What's she going to do next? Break into your house or show up with a gun and shoot you to get it? What's stopping you from actually donating the scrimshaw? That would go a long way toward solving your problem with this nutbag who won't leave you alone.
