Heart Murmur

My doctor says I have this and I know didn't have it before. I asked about it and she said it depends on how bad it is.

I read that it can mean nothing or something more serious.

Anyone else have one?

The hubby has had one for years with no problems. You just have to have it checked out so you know for sure what the situation is. Hopefully it will be nothing and you can put it out of your mind. Meanwhile my thoughts are with you. Waiting is the hard part.

Thank you. I appreciate your concern.

My mother had one for decades and lived to be 93.
Thank you. That's good to know.

I've had one for years. The cardiologist said it was nothing to worry about, so I don't.
That's good you saw the cardiologist. In reality they could mean nothing or it could be a serious heart problem.
That's why I'm going to the cardiologist.

I was born with my murmur. I have been seen by Cardiologists for other things such as my FAA physical and they tell me that my murmur is more of a nuisance than it is problematic. If it's from a leaking valve, there may be more to it, but thankfully mine isn't.

I have a pilot friend that had his discovered during a routine FAA physical and had to go and get cleared by a Cardiologist. They performed a heart catheterization on him and found that he did have a leaky valve that needed replaced. He had his done at his local hospital in Ohio and he told me that they don't cut you down the middle of the chest anymore. All they did was to go in through the groin with the new valve and slipped it inside of the defective valve and everything works great. He said that he has much more energy now and feels like a 35 year-old again. After he healed, he had to pass some stress tests doing exercises and treadmill work, but he was back to flying in about 3-4 weeks.

Medicine has come a long way.

Thank you oldman. I have had a racing heart beat at times and out of breath at times more lately and according to what I read those could be signs of a problem. I will see when I have tests in Cardiology.

My youngest sister was born with a heart murmur. When she was a toddler up until she was about 5 years old it caused a few problems, she'd go blue in the face if she ran around too much etc..I was only a kid myself but I remember it (there's 7 years between us)...but it's never given her any trouble since she was a child...

I have two friends who came down with afib and they experience heart palps....guess that's different. But I've done a lot of reading on WHY the heart afib and lots of info on magnesium deficiency. Just throwing that out. I like Dr. Sinatra's advice on heart health.

Magnesium
COQ10
DRibose
L Carnitine

I take the first 3. No heart issues that I know of.

Was curious about this so did my classic research.

Personally I take higher doses of EPA-DHA omega 3's for bodywide inflammation.

My late hubby was told by a few doctors that he had one, also had rheumatic fever as a child.
However,he was in the Navy for 4 years on a mine sweeper and none of their doctors ever heard it.

I always have to be careful to find out exactly WHAT a doctor says to my mother, because what she SAYS he said doesn't always agree with what he DID say.

She called me up one day and said "the doctor says my heart is bleeding and it's been bleeding all my life." Needless to say, I immediately called the doctor's office (I insist that she signs off of my being able to get info from the office) and what she was really told was that she has a slight valve regurg and it may have been congenital. Nothing unusual for a woman over 65. She's almost 93.
