Heating The House

She's a figment of your imagination this aunt of yours in my humble opinion, and until some kind of proof is forthcoming I'll stick to that view.

Still, if she does exist its hard to fault her direct, no nonsense way of speaking, and I'd guess an anthology of her best put downs could be worth publishing, (bet your uncle kept his head down when she was in a mood too! :) ).
I do like to entertain but, Aunt Mavis is real. I’ll never forget her trying to kiss me right on the lips at Thanksgiving! Thank God I turned my head in time for it to land on my cheek. That breath!!! Yikes!!!

I keep my heat at 60°. If it's below freezing for several days, I might bump it up to 62°. The cost of fuel oil is $$$$$. Needless to say, this year I payed more for less heating oil.

I use low EMF electric blankets on my bed and on the couch when I need to get toasty. I'm thinking about buying a portable radiant space heater that I can use in the living room in the evening while watching TV and easily move into the kitchen when I want to. Instead of trying to heat the whole room, with a ceramic or convection heater, the radiant heater works pretty quickly to heat up objects. Object = me. 🧏‍♀️ I'm still thinking about it. 🤔

We use space heaters in a couple rooms. We use to hang heavy blankets to cut off our sun room but Misa is staying in a room in that area this year. She is of two minds about getting more covers or use a space heater. It will be an experiment this winter. When it is not below 15 degrees the wood stove will heat her room if we pull one of the blankets back, but any colder than that it doesn't work that well. Our electric bill is about $150 on average. If we can keep it around that price we are within our budget.

It’s like a game to me, holding out as long as I can without any type of heat in the house. (My zero degree bag helps) It’s almost November and so far, none. I’m trying to save the trees, salmon and some hard-earned ca$h at the same time. Chickies tend to object but…….

I try to buy logs a year in advance to let them season, and also avoid pine if possible. Saving trees by being cold is not a valid point here. The trees that are used for firewood are almost exclusively ones that have died or were blown over in storms. The healthy trees that are felled are mainly for the construction industry or paper production. They are a 'crop' and as trees are cut down, new ones are being planted.

I burn a lot of former power poles. Western Red Cedar burns fast but many of these end up in the landfills. Boo. Aunt Mavis has a wood stove but I’m too afraid she’ll burn the house down, fire and Rainier beer don’t mix.

Not familiar with "Rainier beer", though guess its strong medicine!

Just thought I'd add "Fire and Rain" don't mix either in this neck of the woods! :)

I keep it set at 72, summer and winter. The dang apartment thermostat is so hard to adjust that when I finally get it at 72, I leave it there.😂
