Helene news out of NC and surrounding mountain states is not good 9/28/24

We flew in the area of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. We took a quick look at Asheville before heading home. I was unaware we were dropping off 200 pounds of all things bacon at the Chimney Rock collection center. We saw some people looking around trying to save some stuff that’s worthwhile and can be used later.

We were able to land at a private air park about 20 miles east of Chimney Rock and spoke to an NC Highway Patrolman who told us they were watching for looters. I never gave that a thought.

They found a young lady and newborn yesterday near Chimney Rock Her boyfriend left the house Friday to get help when she went in labor. She managed to deliver and survived till found, afraid to leave and try and carry the baby thought the mud. Shes been reunited with family, Boyfriend still missing.

The Tiki Bar was the one behind the resort, right on the river ?

I stayed at the resort each time there. Not sure I remember the Margarita Grill.

My visits there were in the early 2000's. I do remember a nice place , good food on the [other-side] of the lake. South side I believe .
 
As noted looting becoming an issue. And will get worse as time drags on. Thieves will take advantage of demand. I couldn't/wouldn't buy something like tools off an individual in these times. The buyers especially in those areas have to know where it's coming from especially if in good non flooded condition.
