I grew up in New York and I recall people somewhat jokingly say the upstate New York begins at Hawthorne Circle (in northern Westchester County). Using this definition I lived for quite some time in upstate NY a little east of Poughkeepsie. But I imagine you live still farther north. Welcome to the Forum we need more yankees.

I live about 10 miles from the south of Lake Ontario. So far not much lake effect snow. Yay!

I also lived in Rochester for three years which is about 15 miles south of Lake Ontario and I remember lots of snow.

Josiah, can you define Yankee for me?

Yankee or Yanks has had many meanings. During the Civil was it referred to the northerners. I'm not sure how it was used during WW1, during WW2 it referred to all Americans, but in the context I'm intending here it refers only to New Englanders and New Yorkers. The New York City professional baseball team is called the Yankees.
