Welcome Dennis! I grew up in San Bruno but spent a lot of time in San Jose in the 60s-had lots of friends there that I met vising my grandmother in Willow Glen. Most all went to Willow Glen High School.

Thanks for the big welcome, Boozercruiser - Menace? - only when I was young.

Thanks Mrs. Robinson. My Great Grandfather lived in Willow Glen. He was a door to door salesman for Watkins Products. That was back in the 40's. It is a source of mystery to me how he and my great grandmother, Lily, lived so well when all he did was do door to door sales. Things have certainly changed since that time - I often wonder how it is that we got where we are today; what with both today's couples having to work just to pay the bills.

Welcome! I'm in NC, USA.

Thanks for the greeting, Linda and Lon. I'm up here in the Diablo range - Paicines is my PO address - population is about 150. My nearest neighbors are about one mile away.
Hi again Dennis, I'd never heard of Paicines so I looked it up. You do live in the country. :) You said your neighbors are about 1 mile away, mine are about 180 ft on each side of us. The back and front is a little further away. I like living close to people and having neighbors to wave at. Are you like us and needing some RAIN? :)

Giessen and Kaiserslautern. I loved it! The Autobahn scared me to death the first time!!
I was in a communications squadron just outside of Kaiserslautern - an extension of Ramstein AFB. I was there 67 through 69. In trying to resurrect lost memories, I looked the area up in Google Earth. Though much has changed since the 60's, I think I found where the com center was. Wasn't there a PX right by Vogelweh?

Yes we need rain badly. My well head has dropped considerably and it is a worry. This winter is looking promising. They say we may get quite a bit of rain this year because of El Nino - I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi Falcon. I read your profile. I was in the Air Force as well. They wouldn't let me near an aircraft because of my color vision. It wasn't until I got out that I got my license - single engine, tail dragger. I soloed in an old Tailorcraft that was older than myself. That was during the 70's and 80's. Can't fly anymore because of blood pressure medicine. I got really interested in Rutan's composite designs. I spent time in Mojave where I got a chance to take a ride in his Longez. Those were wonderful years for me.

Me too. I was in the Air Force from 1953 to 1957. Aircraft Instruments Tech on F86 Sabre Jets & later B 47's

Yep! I lived on Pariserstrasse, right across from Vogelweh. This was in 198....3...4?? Holy cow! I had a tiny apartment over a car dealership and the H&R Block office and a bistro. Had a lovely view of an alley and the building behind mine. Wooo.

Talk about a dismal winter...I was on TDY covering Vogelweh, Ramstein, Zweibrucken, and Pirmasens. I think I spent more time chasing down wet-ears on their first duty station. Yawn. Although right before I went back to Giessen, there was a pretty interesting murder staged as a suicide. That was exciting. Not to mention some phenominal car crashes on the Autobahn.

Did you hear about the 200 - 80 Porsche?

It can go 200 kph but when it crashes, you see Porsche for 80 kilometers.

I suppose it is like seeing the results of a plane crash - not pretty. MPs? I like reading the adventures of Jack Reacher in Lee Child's books.
My job there was three days mids, three days swing, three days, days and then three days off. With three days off and my vacations, I traveled all over the place - even got down into Israel, but as close as I was to Paris, I was always just passing through. I regret that and I also regret never visiting England.

If they would have let me anywhere around those birds, I probably would have never left!

I was a photojournalist. I saw plane crashes, too. And the Challenger disaster, and Chernobyl 15 years later. I was at Fort Dix at 9/11 and drove over there. Holy cow.

If you haven't already, you should write a book.
