I watched this last night. I didn't know how pervasive China is expanding its influence ( especially in South Africa ) and probably become the new global leading power/economy. I am interested in your reaction to this presentation. I would prefer a discussion, not a debate. :)

It is much easier in many ways to make progress under a dictatorship. It certainly doesn't help with the current and, former so called leadership we've had to suffer with. China is most certainly the biggest threat to democratic rule around the globe. We may still be on top, but if we don't quit infighting we won't be there long. Mike

In the 1970s, one of those ultra historian/professor/ intellectual TV commentators gave his learned "report" on the future of the world. All I remember of it was Canada was going to break up. Eastern Canada was going to be New Canada, with French the official language. And Western Canada was going to be admitted to the US as the 51st, 52,nd, 53rd new states. At the time, these weren't "predictions", but a studied analysist of what would happen, without any doubt.
Apparently, Canadians did not watch PBS programs. They totally failed on this breakup thing.
BTW, China has always been a heavy weight nation throughout world history.

There is ;a lot of truth in this presentation. While the U.S. has been spending 10's of trillions, over the past half century, trying to "police the world", China has been capitalizing on its cheap labor to build an economic global empire. Half the products we buy, anymore, come from China and the industries it controls in the Far East....and increasingly, even here.

The Last time our military efforts proved superior was WWII. Ever since...in Korea, Vietnam, and most lately, Afghanistan, our actions have been little other than a waste of U.S. lives and resources.

China, and its dictatorship is focused on becoming the largest economy in the world, while our governments priority is centered around the interests of the political parties, and the endless bickering between them.

I often feel that history will record the 20th Century as the peak of U.S. "status", and we are now in the early stages of Mediocrity, and decline.

Nothing lasts forever. The Greek and Roman Empires are long gone. Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy are gone also. The US and Russia will be gone too. When I don't know and I don't really care as I'm 75 and just glad to get out of bed each day. I don't really like politics. It's controlled by the rich and the poor suffer. Nothing has changed in the last 5,000 years. Good luck for those that believe that any poor peasant can become the next leader of your country.

I've said many times on this Forum that Communist China will be the new Super power. We better all start learning Chinese.
But, my words are given no worth.
Sure, They will take over Taiwan. They will merge with Russia (probably at the end of the decade) to fight against the U.S.
China speaks peace but this is not to be believed. Communist China will far surpass the U.S. in the Third World War.
China will dominate the world. The war won't last long but it will be devastating!

What can we do? Pray and stop buying goods from China, but it won't help much.

When I was growing up in the 60s, people said we were losing the global war against communism, especially as countries like Cuba and South Vietnam became communist. That didn't happen; in fact, the Soviet Union imploded.

In the 80s, it was Japan that was going to take over the world by buying everything in sight. That didn't happen either.

Now it's China. I agree that China is a serious problem. But most prognostications about what happens will be wrong.

Yes, I know. I agree with you on all the doomsday predictions of the past too!
Silly and made people fearful.
I think this is different.
I may be wrong, but I don't think so.
Jeez, I sure do hope I'm wrong about this!

Gaer, I hope so too. I think you're right, though, this time it seems different, due to the sheer size of China's population and the willingness of Xi to play the "long game."

How to become a third world power

Transfer you heavy industry to foreign countries: cars, trucks and most important steel production

Make it inpossible for the thousands of tool and die firms to supply the big three auto makers. Consequently
these craftsman, with essential skills, disappear into whatever employment they can find.

Show how capitalistic business operates by supplying all items :food, household goods, radios, tv's and virtually
every item you purchase cheaper that the same items can be produced in the U.S.A.

Deal with the social unrest of the population by misdirection of those that can no longer earn a living wage.

Use limited wars to keep the need for military production intact, thus keeping part of the society working.

Keep the stock market booming, when your making a large amount of money you do not really care how the rest of the nation is
faring.

We never debate 😂😂

One of the best examples of the greatness of America was the ability to govern with respect and dignity and to have a peaceful transfer of power within the government. That has been lost.
Not lost, just temporarily suspended as we, the US, experience growing pains. Remember we are still a very YOUNG nation.

I disagree.

“Communist” China? Old school words used to scare us in the 1950’s as we huddled under our school desks. The word Republican is more scary now than the word Communist, and more of a threat. Russia is Communist and more aggressive than China, yet you refer to Russia as just Russia. China is not a new super power, it is an old super power. Fear mongering is out of fashion.

China will not merge with Russia. China would not need to do that. We do not need to learn Chinese unless you want to order food. We will not allow China to “take over Taiwan”, unless Taiwan votes for this. Although, China might merge with Korea. There’s a thought. But I doubt that as well.

If China dominates the world, it will be through their economic power. But, you know, first we have got to get those ships unloaded. 😂😂😂

If there is a Third World War, it’s back to the Stone Age and it won’t matter who wins, cause no one will win. The human race will be completely destroyed.

I do not know if anyone “listened” to your words on this subject. But I believe you are wrong, and I listened to your opinion.

That will help more than you think. But what would help most is demanding our gov't increase and enforce regulations that prevent American big business and billionaires from investing in China. Investors either don't know or don't care that all businesses in China are owned by the CCP, there are no private businesses in China, so the CCP can funnel as much of that investment money as they want straight to their military. Also, once you've opened your business in China, they own it, not you, and more often than not, they take it over and send you home. If it's a tech business (such as Apple's 5G technology), they've literally stolen your technology, which now belongs to their military. And this has happened again and again.

Taiwan's not worth one American life. It's not gonna happen. We need China. We don't need Taiwan. Gosh that might sound mean but there you go.

I will shut up now. Trouble has a way of finding me.
Taiwan, if push comes to shove, will be a tough call. Was South Korea worth one American life? I think it was, but I guess a case could be made the other way.

One thing is clear, the easiest way to "lose" Taiwan is to make it clear to the Chinese that we don't care about it remaining free.

If Taiwan goes down, so does every democratic island nation in the region, including Japan. Then South Korea and India are at grave risk and Russia has the impetus to invade it's neighbors. We can't let that happen.

I think Taiwan will go down, but I don't know if the U.S. will respond or not. Do you think we will?

This is ”crazy” talk. Taiwan is not going down, Japan is more than safe, I think India has the bomb so no worries there, as for South Korea, we will not let it “go”. Russia can and probably will invade its neighbors since it previously “owned” them. Russia thinks it still owns them.

But no need for boots on the ground or for lost American lives. Bombs, we have bombs.
