beloved friend who will always be with us in spiri

I told my boy you will call me by telephone...and you will send me pictures by snail mail. The baby boy was born two days ago, almost 9 pounds. Richard...just amazing my Davey is a Daddy!!!!!!

I think she means that she found out and saw the pictures on Facebook. but not sure

Well if that's how she found out that the little duffer had arrived, then I think that her son will have some explaining to do. I know I would have heard about it 'six ways to Sunday' and forever, from my mom if she'd found out like that (if Facebook was around at that point).

I was lucky in that I got to sit with my daughter for part of her first labour (until they took her in for a C-section) and was babysitting my grandson when the second was born and got to take him to the hospital when our little redhead was a couple hours old so that we could all meet! But Facebook instead of an excited call??? I'm hoping that we're wrong QS.

Debby.... I hate to generalize, but I have talked to a lot of grandmas about this. Usually there is a HUGE difference in the allowed experience between a maternal and a paternal grandmother. We paternal grandmas are often not given the same access or attention that maternal grandmothers are given. It's simply not the same when your son has a child as when your daughter does. Not in every case for sure... but for the most part. Girls feel more of a bond, and rightly so, with their moms when having or caring for their baby.. Hubby's mom is just another woman. The same trust is not there.

I have never been allowed the same relationship with my grandchildren as my DILs mother has. It is what it is.

Congratulations on your new grandson Fureverywhere!

Actually what happened is I was just calling him to check in. He said can he call back in a few minutes and when he called...I dunno spidey sense?...I heard something in his voice and I joked " Don't tell me, the baby is already here". Well....he did say he tried to call repeatedly but no one picked up. With our crazy schedules it's quite possible.

He and his wife are total social media. When we eat out with them my Dad gets frustrated. They'll be taking pictures of the food and updating their location. Okay, put away your electronic devices and actually talk to us. Haven't met the wee one yet but he got his Mom's dark hair. My son has carrot red, sounds just like he was though, sleeping and eating and going back to sleep.

You have to forgive them Fureverywhere, it's the modern day now, all things digital, social media, etc. I'm still a dinosaur myself, and would have preferred a phone call or card with photo via snail mail. :)

Thanks everybody!!!! Ah yes babysitting, I'm sure the plumbing is still the same. Fourteen years since I held a baby...I can hardly wait, Christmas came early this year:D
