@Paulina It's not a career kinda job, a job at Dollar Tree. I'll be restocking shelves, arranging displays, that kinda stuff. At first it will probably only be 10/hrs/wk, but as we get closer to the holidays, more hours.
I've been wanting to work there for a long time. I stayed away for about a year and a half because the one closest to me was such nasty, dump. Then they got a new manager, and when we went in one day about a year ago, it was clean and organized and actually a fun place to browse.
I looked online for jobs at that store, but until about two weeks ago, there weren't any jobs listed. I applied online, and when we were in the store again, mentioned to the manager that I'd applied. There's a sort of "scale" online that shows the status of your application, but it didn't move off the first stage thanking me for applying.
One day last week, DD badgered me into going in to ask the manager why that would be. He took me into his office and looked up my application, found it, made an appointment for me to interview this morning.
And...what he told me today was that there were 21 applicants, but I was the
only one who followed up. What? He said it told him that I really want to work there. And to think that I didn't want to go in when DD brought it up because I felt like I'd be badgering him.
It will be a week or two before I'm scheduled to work because there will be a background check. I've never been convicted of a crime, but I did get a traffic ticket on my 40th birthday. Once the background check is done, he'll put me on the schedule.
I have no idea what it pays and really don't give a rat's rear. I just want somewhere to go and something to do. Having a little fun $$ is a bonus.
The best part of all is that I'd been scheduled for an interview at McD's next Monday. Now I get to cancel it. I really, really didn't want to work there but would have if it was all I could get.
I hope I never again get the bright idea of retiring. For me, that's just not anything I want to do. Retirement is for other people.
Woohoo and other exclamations of delight
