Something I was just thinking about after reading the new National Geographic. There's a large article on modern fashion designers using different species to make more original clothing lines. Some of the battle lines are drawn that the animals should be killed humanely for their fur. But the whole concept kind of strikes me as ridiculous. Back in the day a mink coat or whatever was a status symbol. I'd like to think our society has evolved a bit more than still wanting to wear dead animals. I remember a scarf my grandmother had. A mink? A weasel? I don't know what the creature was but it had the stuffed head on one end and the stiff little feet on the other...and she wore it with pride.
This coat is $7000
This one is $169...
I feel the second one is gorgeous, no creatures had to die for it, it doesn't require special storage and will probably last longer besides. With so many synthetic options why would people spend zillions for real fur?
