How Do Feel About Real Fur?

Something I was just thinking about after reading the new National Geographic. There's a large article on modern fashion designers using different species to make more original clothing lines. Some of the battle lines are drawn that the animals should be killed humanely for their fur. But the whole concept kind of strikes me as ridiculous. Back in the day a mink coat or whatever was a status symbol. I'd like to think our society has evolved a bit more than still wanting to wear dead animals. I remember a scarf my grandmother had. A mink? A weasel? I don't know what the creature was but it had the stuffed head on one end and the stiff little feet on the other...and she wore it with pride.
This coat is $7000

I feel the second one is gorgeous, no creatures had to die for it, it doesn't require special storage and will probably last longer besides. With so many synthetic options why would people spend zillions for real fur?

The stoles from back in the day with the heads still attached gave me the creeps as a kid. I could have bought myself fur jackets or coats over the years but I never had the desire to. My mother in law left me a mink jacket that I wore once, it felt nice and soft. But I didn't like the idea of wearing it, and sold it cheap in a consignment store.

If they wrestled the beast to the ground with their bare hands, dressed it out themselves and ate the creature, then they can display / wear the fur.

If not, it's all a sham.

I wouldn't wear real fur anymore either. I'm surprised that any woman would whether for fashion or not.
:aargh:

I once had an overcoat that was trimmed with dyed rabbit fur. Rabbits were in plague proportions in Australia and their hides were used to make felt hats and to trim coats like mine. The rest of the rabbit ended up in the butchers' shops. I do not feel guilty and I don't wear fur these days.

I had a rabbit's foot when I was a kid.. (That's the only fur for me.)
