How do you answer the question "what do you do all day"?

I am not retired but I think mostly it is just a small talk question - a bit like How is work going ? What do you do at work? asked of people who are working.

No one asks me that. I don't know why. But I always have projects going. Example - we Elders have a lot of paper photos from times gone by. One of the projects I need to complete is scanning those so they can be saved and shared for others.

Normally, I only interact with my wife and family. We (myself, wife, daughter and SIL, and two grandkids (28 and 22) all live here in the old family home, along with a dog, 2 cats, and out back, a half dozen chickens. Sometimes one of our other daughters will swing by for a cup of coffee and visit.

All this to point out that I rarely have contact (through choice) with many outsiders therefore what I do is not part of my conversations. The thought of living among strangers my own age is not pleasant to me. Should my wife check out or if I need a nursing facility - - -it's time for me to go.

Only my opinion but unfortunately I doubt if it will change.

I started doing that.. and it just was taking too long, I have so many as most people do.. so I decided it would be a lot quicker to just take photos of them, and upload to the computer...

I keep myself busy and walk the dog every now and then. Today it is blowing snow, so going out for a walk isn't going to happen. I take the dog out anyway once in awhile. I watch tv, do word puzzles, play cards. I stay busy and sometimes step out to go play cards with senior friends and have lunch with them. So, there, that is what I do. What do you do?

Living on rural property, there are always things to do. In fact, I treasure the times in any given week where I can choose to just do some reading during a day, or play guitar. (True, I fairly frequently watch some TV or a streamed movie with my wife in the evenings.) In summer I'll go for the occasional bike ride or, in normal-winter years, I'll go for a cross-country ski run.

Routine things I do: Keeping in touch with my daughter in Vancouver (exchanging cartoons, and a phone conversation each weekend). Then there's repair & maintenance work, indoors or outdoors. Spring through fall, there's garden work: soil enrichment, planting, weed control, harvesting, fence maintenance. Also tree management. Some of the housework, 40% of the cooking, 90% of the dish washing. Minor technical tasks to keep wi-fi, satellite TV, and sound system functioning.

Also I do work in support of our river conservation/restoration project. Sometimes I help a friend by doing some welding or assisting with a minor construction project.

And, in recent months, I catch up on SF, even making a few posts.☺️
