How do you feel about men, over 60, with long hair?

The young picture of your wife looks so familiar to me. I wonder why, and who she reminds me of. As you once said Mark, small world.

I guess there are far worse things a man can do than let his hair grow although, whether the hair is long or short, it needs to be washed!

I think I have mentioned before about the fella I used to know who had short dark hair, I met him more recently after he retired and he now has long, white hair which actually suits him.

Maybe because she taught in Oakland at CCAC, now CCA, for 42 years? Textile art mostly.

Myself, I can’t stand my hair getting too long. As soon as it hits the top of my ears, I get my haircut. Of course, that comes from being in the military for 30 years. For other older men, I think some look cool and some look wild. I guess long hair isn’t for everyone, but to each his own.

Ah, so this old thread has been opened back up once again. Looks like I previously posted:

Took this more recent image on December 8, 2022, at age 74.1 with a winter ski tan, that shows how I've been wearing my hair the last few years since retirement. Since it was of a facing mirror, I've fixed the 180 degree reversal in Photoshop. Not reaching shoulders but below ear lobes. Some wrote how they think long hair makes senior men look older. True with some men but if a man has a youthful slim fit body, youthful face, and shaves facial skin, not at all. After washing without any conditioners, my light, thin brown hair has a lot of natural body that bounces about easily since it doesn't reach shoulders, especially when I walk about. Also is a good look for this urban street freestyle dancer.

@David777 , you are a very nice looking man! You should be comfortable in your own skin , and hair.

My own preference is shorter hair on all ages of men. Even in the 70s when it became more popular I wasn't attracted to guys with the longer hair, pulled back in a ponytail or hanging straight. I am attracted to more of the simple military look.

Just as men prefer women with shorter hair styles, or are attracted to long, flowing hair, it's a personal choice.

Different types, different likes, we are all different. Thank goodness!

Doesn't anybody dare say it? It's only hair, but I don't like it. They look like they suffer from arrested development.

That long hair is as silly as "moonshiner" beards.

Yuk.

I might be channeling my inner country boy. In my 80s after a long period of short hair, I want to get to Willie Nelson length. But this in between look for my baby fine (yes still) hair is kinda scruffy. And it takes a diff shampoo and and 'stiffeners" aka styling gel. I hope it's worth it. Not giving up, yet

Hubby has hair which is still dark brown with just a little gray and it reaches down his back. I actually met him when he had much shorter hair. I like it both ways. And my younger brother also has long hair down his back and his hair is still gorgeous and he has it cut every so often and gives it to make wigs for cancer patients. And my kid brother looks good with long hair or short. Both guys keep it in a ponytail. And when I was much, much younger, wow, I just loved the long hair rock musician type, so sexy to me.

Snowball loves braiding mine, sort of a cross between grey and blond, so she does my hair in a long tail, sometimes pigtails close to the ears when I have tons of work to do!
It's out of my eyes. Done paying barbers so to Fly to lakes in Canada on Vacations fishing and Bear hunting with their buddies. . haha

I put my foot down and told mama that when I retired that I was going to grow a ponytail and get a motorcycle and that was all there was to it.

She still won't let me grow a ponytail but at least she did kinda let me get a cycle......sometimes I really hate being a whimp.

What the hell is unprofessional? I am not a professional and never was. The surgeon that removed a cancerous tumor from my neck several years ago was a professional. His pony tail was not a consideration.

If you ever met me you would not find anything in the least feminine about me.

I am not a celebrity and I "Get Away" (whatever the hell that means) with long hair and have for 40 plus years. I worked directly with the public for many of those years and the length of my hair never affected my performance, or the acceptance of such performance

As far as "cool factor" I was always on the cutting edge of "cool",still am. Hair having no effect on my coolness. Just last week my 9 year old grandson looked at me while we were ice fishing and said, "Poppy, I love you, you are so cool." I said, "Yep buddy , that is because we're standing on ice", we both laughed.

I'm thinking that you are a bit arrogant in your opinion, but that is you.
lol, my father-in-law, a master mechanic, was once told by his employer that beards would no longer be permitted. My father-in-law, who wore a short, neat beard instantly gave notice, and the new rule was instantly canceled. Some days these little HItlers just can't win.

i tend not to get a haircut until I resemble a sixties hippy.
If the hair is clean and tidy nothing wrong with it at all.
It was way below my shoulder when barbers were shut!
it is quite short at the moment though.
See me in August.

Here I sit at 62 years with hair past my shoulders. I don't much care who likes it or not.

When I was a child my over worked mother used to line all five of us boys up and run the clippers over our heads. I had no choice I had no voice. I do have very clear memories of the burn of hot clipper and the smell of hot oil.

I went into the USMC and for four years I was forced by regulation under the threat of the UCMJ prison and less than honorable discharge to wear my hair in the most freakish configuration imaginable.

When I was discharged I did not get a hair cut for the four years as a way of healing.

In the 80's I would get my hair styled but maintenance was to much to often.

Don't even get me started on the guys that shave their heads. Nothing but a display of laziness.

With me it is a psychological thing about haircuts more than a love of long hair. It works for me, pocket of pony holders and I am good to go!
Our son 63 years old keeps his hair clipped close to his head, because he likes to ride his motor scooter and the helmet makes longer hair look terrible. DH also keeps his hair clipped to the skin because he is mostly bald
Interesting read. Much has to do with beyond just hair. After all hair goes with the rest of one's appearance with the whole look and style especially when moving around. One facet is how long hair reflects one's normal social mix. In any social environment one does not want to look out of place with a partner nor want to draw attention when such is inappropriate. Even men with long hair may tend to minimize that look in more formal occasions.

During my working life, I kept my hair at ear lobe length as it was easy to hide by matting down combed back in my conservative work environments but in social situations have always gone natural. Never go to barbers, never ever dyed, and prefer the Classic rock wild man look haha. During my usual periods between jobs and now at 73 retired, prefer to keep it between ear lobe and 2 or 3 inches longer. So it never sits on my shoulders but rather is free to float and bounce in the air. Have very fine light brown hair slightly graying now, thinning on top that when washed tends to greatly expand. Couple shots from this May 2021.

I recommend Alberto 5 for blond/gray hair.

I love long hair on men. Love it! I like man buns and pony tails, too as well as tribal tattoos, beards and or mustaches, long or short. Hair is sexy.

I wonder why people feel compelled to qualify their tolerance of long hair or beards by saying "as long as it's clean"! Why wouldn't it be clean ?

Who could imagine a woman opting to grow her hair long with people saying "ok that's fine, as long as you keep it clean!
