How has your vision changed as you got older?

Can you now see fewer colors? If so, which colors are more difficult for you to distinguish?
Have your eyes gotten weaker or astigmatic?

I know nothing has happened to my eyes (I've worn very weak glasses since I was 16), but a lot of my friends say their eyesight has gotten worse.

What's your experience?

My eyesight has definately deteriorated over the years, I’ve worn glasses from age 15, without them my vision is very blurred, I can make my way around at home but could never go out without them, I have them tested and need new lens every two years

The most annoying thing in recent years is, as soon as I go outside, my eyes start watering like I’m crying, which can be quite embarrassing, it’s not so bad if I wear dark glasses

I have worn glasses since about 20. an me vision is not bad at all without glasses i can see clear all around me but cannot read a newspaper unless i hold it up close.
i go for eye checks every year since i turned 70. as this is recommend .

I started wearing glasses about 20 years ago,got my 1st pair of bi-focals soon after that. I knew I needed them because at work I had trouble reading the small print on some of the narcotics I was delivering to nursing units.{was a pharm tech}
I have a pair of bi-focals for reading, pair when I'm on the computer. I also have a couple pair of glasses I buy at the $store. I don't wear glasses when I go outside,I can see perfectly fine when I'm on my daily walks.I wear sunglasses whenever its sunny outside no matter what season it is
I go every year for my eye exam, last yr my dr told me my eyes'are really good'.I was surprised hearing this considering I read a lot esp books, like doing online games. He has told me cataract surgery is down the road in a few years Sue

I started wearing glasses when I was 10 and wore them constantly (glasses or contacts) until I had cataract surgery on both eyes at 65. Things were good for a couple of years but then I developed macular problems in one eye and I see things closer in one eye than the other. This throws me off, optically. I have to do most of my serious reading with one eye closed.

There's an operation I can have but it has an unpleasantly high likelihood of making me lose the sight completely in that eye. It's getting to the point where I might have to make that decision pretty soon.

I wear glasses but over the years my vision hasn't changed all the much. I have a very small cataract which the doctor said will be years before I need to have surgery. My only annoying problem is that my eyes get dry and get tired sooner than before. I use over the counter drops that help.

Had a very small piece of a bullet go into my eye , my other wounds were so bad they just let it be, I had it removed in 1980, but it had went all the way to the back of my eye, it had given me glaucoma, had three operations , one that went wrong last year, my sight, is going south.

I just had an exam, & a new prescription , new glasses. But the eye doc said my new prescription was only a slight correction. She said my eye [health] was very good....particularly @ my age.

I passed my d/license exam without glasses.

I have now developed eagle-eye vision along with X-ray vision. Who ever knew that the aging process had so many wonderful, positive surprises in store for those who age? Thanks for asking!

Don't leave us hanging here! HOW IN THE WORLD did a small piece of a bullet go into your eye?!

Worn glasses for shortsightedness since age 11 -I needed them when I was 9 really.Had the same prescription until I was fifty and had to get bi-focals without which my arms would have had to grow to an enormous length. That part of my prescription has been changed a couple of times but my bi-annual opticians visit is this week so we shall see if anything has changed.

I was born with one weak eye so had to wear glasses from a young age with a patch to correct that. As I got older I stopped wearing the glasses because I could see fine without them--until I was around 45 and when I went to pick up the newspaper from the basement to bring back to my boss, I finally realized I had to bend lower and lower to read the the part where it said who the newspaper was for. That was just the normal near-sightedness that happens to people as they get older. And, also as normal, both near-sightedness and far sightedness is getting worse. I know I have the start of cataracts--found that out about 12 years ago. I guess one day I'll need to take care of that.

As far as colors, I haven't noticed any change with that.

My vision has worsened with age, I never wore glasses but I'm 65 now and been using over-the-counter readers for a long time, at 1.75 power. They're still good for reading books or magazines, but small print on bottles of vitamins, etc. are almost impossible to read now. I don't get eye exams every year, but I have an appointment this month for a checkup. The doctor last time said that I can keep using the readers, but I'm thinking I may need to start wearing glasses, mainly for reading things, so I imagine they would be bi-foculs...we'll see.

Last time the doctor said that there's no problems now, but there may be a sign of macular degeneration beginning in the future. I have abused my eyes all my life, never liked wearing sunglasses, etc. Now I force myself to wear them on sunny days, especially when snow is on the ground. I also take supplements for my eyes like Lutein, vitamin D3, etc. I do have one small spot, like a brownish spot in the vision of my left eye that needs to be checked out. I used an eye wash and always use eye drops, but it doesn't rinse away, maybe a floater?

Well, I just got thru with laser assisted cataract surgery in both eyes. Had to pay a nice price, as in $1,900 per eye (yes, "per eye") for the surgery and new lenses that will have me see distance. First eye, left one, done on Oct 3rd and other, right one, on Oct 24th. I have a few more days of doing a prescription eyedrop in the left eye and then that will be the end of eyedrops in that eye. Still have a few weeks of eyedrops in the right eye, as in two prescription eyedrops.

Wife and I are extremely glad that I had this done and my sight is incredible now, as in 20/20 vision of left and working on that on the right. Only glasses I have to wear now are Readers to see my iPhone. My vision for the computer screen is "clear as a bell" as is my driving and tv vision. The colors I see now are fantastic.

I highly recommend the laser procedure and lens, that is for those that can afford it. We actually got a credit card, Care Credit, to charge both surgeries on.

Had cataracts removed several years ago. Since then I only need "reader" glasses from the drug store.

Smatter of fact, I'm wearing them right now as we spe.....spea...confer. THERE, I said it!

See what glasses can do for you.?

I guess I'm blessed. all my life I've needed glasses (near sighted), then, last year (or was it 2 years ago... wish my memory would improve), my eye's which have been emerald green all my life turned blue, and I no longer need glasses. Have found no explanation for it, but, I'm happy as a clam. :)
