How I keep myself from regaining lost weight...

It took me about 1 1/2 years to lose 30 lbs. That was 3 years ago. and was something I was intent upon doing. The weight loss journey was erratic and frustrating, but the prize of any loss, was what spurred me on. I was doggedly determined to stop losing and gaining that weight over and over again as in the past.

I happened to see an article about Protein drinks, and how they could be helpful in either losing or maintaining. So, I now substitute that 160 calorie drink for either lunch or supper.
It's usually supper tho. I still watch ( not all the time ) what I am eating, but this gives me some latitude.

I also find it extremely helpful to weigh in just about every day. When ever I gain a lb or two, I am more careful with my eating. So far so good. Oh, I also donated all the larger clothing to Goodwill and bought smaller size clothes.

Has anyone else found a way to maintain their weight loss as well?
Would love to hear what works for you.

I follow pretty much of a low carb diet , and have so since 2009 when I was told I had diabetes ,

The thought of having diabetes scared me ….so I went on a low carb diet , and to be totally honest I paid for a menu plan which wasn't a menu , as such it involved making up homemade meals using the daily allowance of carbs / protein/ fruits I was allowed to eat, I was allowed to have 1.1/2 slices of bread a day, and was required to eat an apple a day .

I lost 26 kg ( 57.4 pounds ) in 5 months ….and best of all I don’t have diabetes ….I've gained back 4 kg of that weight since 2009

but despite being quite active it’s hard to move regained weight when we are older

All of my bad habits are still with me, lurking just below the surface! 😉🤭😂

My battles are won and lost in the grocery store, if I don’t bring it home, I can’t eat it.

When dieting and maintaining, I try to shoot for a maximum number of calories that is comfortably below my daily limit. Having that cushion allows me some mistakes and the occasional treat.

I try to get my 10,000 steps in most days.

I constantly bargain with myself and try to limit holiday meals to a day instead of a whole season. 🎃🦃🎅🥳💘🐰🧨

The good news is that now, according to my fancy scale, I’m just plain fat and no longer obese! 😉🤭😂

I lost around 30 pounds when I found out I was prediabetic. I just cut carbs, dumped sugar and walked..... walked alot and constantly. Even while indoors watching TV. About 6-7 miles a day. Hardly noticed doing it after awhile.

Oddly enough chemo and radiation for cancer took about 20 pounds so I slowed down so I can get back to my normal weight of 170. I'm at 150 now. Had got down to a creepy 135 pounds. Walking is very good for regulating weight.

well done to you on your weight loss...that's a great achievement

My X husband used to do the same with the protein shakes.. he was never overweight, but due to his intake of beer he got a big stomach, and so he thought by replacing a meal with a protein drink he could lose it... but of course despite me telling him that wouldn't happen.. because it's the liver which had expanded ..he continued on... then eventually stopped drinking beer... and then his belly went down again...

I also, have one protein drink in lieu of a full meal once a day. The old adage; eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and supper like a pauper, doesn't ring well with me, since I dislike breakfast. That's the one I treat like a pauper, and lunch is something light.

I maintain a pretty constant weight, so, I carry on with what appeals to me.

same with me, I can't eat in the mornings.. not for at least a couple of hours after I am awake, and very often several hours... I eat late in the day, altho' they say not to... but I hate waking up hungry... so by eating late I don't get the hunger pains during the night...

What an awful way to lose weight.

Greyt that this works for you. I like the Protein drink because it is simple and I don't have to cook anything. Saves me time and work

My Dr. holds wellness clinics once a month and I took the one on nutrition. I asked him that very question. He said the trick for losing weight and keeping it off is to fill up on high volume, low calorie density food, mainly fruits and vegetables. He said if you have 5 servings of fruits and/or vegetables throughout the day and eat one serving (of fruit like an apple, pear, plum or have a big salad) beforehand, you can eat anything you want at dinner.

Of course keep away from processed foods and the usual suspects of foods that are bad for you. I do that and it helped a lot. I'm battling sleep apnea so I started dieting in early July and have lost 25 lbs. I weigh myself every Thursday morning, 20 more to go and so far I have not felt starved at all. A bit of exercise helps too.

Great advice!

Several years ago there was a diet plan called Volumetrics that focused on calorie density, I still consult my tattered paperback copy.

A big salad, bowl of broth based soup, glass of tomato juice, etc… really helps to take the edge off at mealtime.

These soups with the calories per can on the label are quick and easy but high in sodium.

I just recently had the courage to try ground chicken to replace hamburger patties.
I added poultry seasoning to it, a touch of salt and We are now converts.
The chicken patties are not near as greasy, actually cook faster and almost half the cost.
I didn't do the calorie count as we don't diet that way but I can eat a whole patty compared to
just a half due to the grease in a burger.
I used to buy burger and chicken patties so I cut that cost off too now. Hubby hates the
frozen chicken patties but loves these chick-burgers.
Truthfully I was afraid to try it due to my reaction to ground turkey. I will stick to the chicken.
