Good morning to everyone, looks like a nice day again weather wise.

I will be going out today to put gas in car, buy the lucky lotto tickets, get a prescription and some lunch.

My husband loves western movies and lately we are watching them on DVD. It seems he likes John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart movies the best. I thought they were entertaining, too. It seems back in that time of making movies they used the same actors over and over as other stars in them. Anyway, it gives us some entertainment other than TV shows.

Enjoy your day everyone. :)

It was yesterday: Worked out, chiro, and help pack my buddie's spike elk out. It was a long exhausting day. Fortunately I was able to keep well hydrated and fed; 4 meals in fact so I was able to keep working.

The animals head for heavy cover after being struck by an arrow. There was an intense couple hours of tracking even though the animal only traveled 200 yards before expiring.

Today: Up early but not rested after just 6 hours of sleep, btwn that and the support team being wiped out yesterday as well I decided to forgo my hunt today. Recuperation and preparation is the order of the day.

Headed to the hot tub now w more coffee!

Chilly and a bit rainy here today. I've been lazing around a bit too much this week and now must make up some (a lot) of that lost work time.

Later, though, I am meeting my weekly coffee friend group. About six of us meet each Friday at midday. I've missed the last 2 weeks, so I'm looking forward to catching up with everyone. :coffee:

I had a big mess to clean up on the deck this morning. My red clay pot of bunny ears cactus somehow got tipped off the deck railing I had it on and smashed. Potting soil, shards of pot and pieces of cactus were all over. However, looking on the bright side, I could see it had become pot-bound with roots and it did need re-potting.

I had to sweep up the broken pot, wrap the sharp pieces in newspaper before discarding do they wouldn't puncture the trash bag. Get a new larger pot for the main part of the plant and some small pots to root the pieces (I never throw away a part of a plant that is viable without trying to save it). It took the better part of an hour to do it.

A few days ago the same thing happened with my cereus cactus. It hasn't been that windy that heavy pots would just blow over and I doubt my neighbors are pulling a prank. I suspect animal activity. There are a lot of squirrels and chipmunks around since my next door neighbor feeds wild animals. It is also getting to be fall and they are probably looking to stash their larder right now and a pot of dirt is easy digging. They may start to bury peanuts (I've found peanut shells in my pots before). They may get stuck with cactus needles (the bunny ears has really long ones), and leap away causing the pot to tip over.

Anyway, here's the contrast.

Hope you had a good reason to cause this animal to be tracked like a criminal, tortured before his expiration. @againstthegrain

I stripped the bed last night of the summer bedding.. and put it into the machine... It was late so I didn't put it into the dryer until this morning..

Just shortly after I did, I got a text from my Utility supplier saying I have an hour free electricity tomorrow ( saturday )... this came as a surprise because we've alread had 2 slots since the start of the month of free electricity, otherwise I wwould have waited for the next slot. We only ever get one day notice..

... so I've only dried one lightweight comforter so far... so I'll wait now for tomorrow before putting the rest of the bedding in the dryer during my ''free hour''..

Elk and other game is food for humans, and it's our duty as responsible hunters to track, recover, and consume the animals to the best of our ability. I know it must be different for those that have never foraged a mushroom, dug a clam, or shot a deer to eat.

Got up, got dressed, played nine holes with friends (badly). Now it's time to walk the dog. I'm in charge of dinner tonight, cooking out steaks.

Have lots of other things to do this afternoon: Book a trip to Boston, call an old friend, do some work related to our homeowners' association.

No complaints from this end.

Your explanation suits me just fine. That is, if the head wasn't used as a trophy, was it?
Can a hunter do all the things morally and legally required and still enjoy the horns? It's kinda like finding a rock at Craters of the Moon, it's a keepsake or a memento of the hunt to be cherished long after the meat is gone.

This particular animal was a 1 1/2 yo male so it horns were barely a foot long and still covered w velvet so they stayed in the woods.

After enjoying a five day break being constructive at home, tomorrow, Saturday afternoon 9/6/2025 will be 10 miles away in Mountain View at one of our largest art wine street festivals, for a couple rock cover bands. Weather forecast is optimal, sunny, mid 70F temps.

Music | MV Art and Wine

Then on Sunday 9/7/2025 afternoon will be up in San Francisco, a 55 mile drive, along famous Haight Street at an always rowdy with music, fun street fair.

Tomorrow I'm leaving home at 6:30am to get four trains to the Severn Valley Railway at Kidderminster. They have a diesel gala on. I'll travel about on their railway, take lots of photos, stay in a nice country pub at the other end in Bridgenorth, eat good food and drink good beer. Yhen make my home on Sunday via whatever route takes my fancy - more photos :)

Well this year doesn't get better....at the beginning of june after a long horrible blood letting battle with lawyers and my ex over 4 years ... my decree absolute came through... 6 weeks later in July my car was destroyed, and I was seriiously injured which meant I had to have plastic surgery of which I'm still recovering.... 7 weeks on... today I'm told I have Basal cell Carcinoma, in 2 places and will need surgery....

Excuse me while I feel sorry for myself
Holly, I am so sorry 😔

A group of seniors meets twice a month at IHOP. I have missed the last five mostly because of appointments and the last one due to severe nose bleed. Today I got there and it was fun. There were 12 of us.

When I got home there was a box from Amazon containing 40 cans of Friskies cat food. There was no note. I contacted the two most likely suspects but they didn't do it. Many know I am feeding 3 very sweet feral cats. I am baffled.
