One minute it's bright sunshine, and the next,it's snowing. That's what it's been like all morning and the forecast is for more of the same for a while yet. My central heating boiler is being troublesome - losing water pressure overnight. The expansion cylinder is obviously knackered and I've been chasing the local plumber to fix it, but it seems he's always too busy . I've had to replace the cylinder before and I've ordered a new one . Until then, I just have to keep an eye on the boiler and top up the water as needed.

The boiler is 18 years old and has a few other faults, but hopefully I can keep it running till summer when I hope to get a new one installed.

This is a typical small external oil fired condensing boiler. They're used widely in this area and are up to 95% energy efficient.

Fingers crossed all our kids and GKs will still be well tomorrow so we can finally celebrate Christmas Day. Dispensed with the usual menu because DH & I consumed that food over the past week and a half.

We had a group text confab a few days back and decided on a traditional(ish) Mexican Christmas meal:
Chips, salsa and guac for apps.
Assorted tamales (vegan, cheese and pork), Mexican rice, refried beans, Caesar salad, vegan elote, and a sauteed zucchini, onion, bell pepper mix.
Christmas cookies

We bought fully prepped tamales at local Mexican specialty stores, so they'll only need reheating. DH will grab the rice and beans from one of those stores tomorrow morning. Ditto on the reheat.

I can throw together the guac, Caesar salad and zucchini mix shortly before people arrive. This will be my first stab at elote, so I'll make that today.

We had White Bean Chicken Chili and sides. Guacamole, etc. It seems to please everyone including kids. I found some specialty Mexican chocolate cookies.
Yours sounds delicious!

I love most Mexican food but the desserts have never done a thing for me. Even when I ate dairy, to my taste buds even the highly celebrated desserts like tres leches cakes and flan were all but flavorless. Same with Mexican Wedding Ring cookies. Sweet but bland.

The subtle flavors may be lost on me after being raised on more strongly flavored Italian, German and American desserts. Glad you found some good Mexican chocolate cookies!

I'm the same I've never liked Spanish desserts ...I have always found them to be insipid and bland....

If I thought for even a nanosecond that the "athletic wear" shown in tv commercials would make my bod look like the model's, I'd be all over ordering on the spot.

This morning I saw an online article all about what we shouldn't dare think about getting rid of. That's a switch!

I don’t think the heat has shut off through the night and all morning

I don’t know if that’s what freak the cat out last night, but at 3 o’clock in the morning, he just felt he had to meow incessantly. Nothing satisfied him; heating pad, food, Petting, offers to sleep with me.

There is not enough caffeine in the world this morning😑

I've only ever had flan and churros. Don't like churros but I adore flan.

After kitty incident at 4:00 I am not quite with the program yet. Coffee then breakfast for SO and me getting bank and post office. I may have to call for pizza:) A pork loin has to go through the grinder. So far I have not found decent ground pork anywhere. May make a batch of pot stickers to go with egg drop soup and into the freezer. Energy where are you?

Don't mind me on the flan. Truth is I never understood all the fuss over creme brulee either when that became a restaurant dessert darling.

To me they're pretty much glorified custards, one with crusted sugar on the bottom and the other with it on the top.

Chocolate lava cake? Now you're talking!! ❤️

9am Tai-Chi session in the local park. Brrrrrrr... 🥶 but invigorating.

Lunchtime our eldest daught finally made it here from That London for a week after train strikes and other unhelpfull shenannigens delayed her (Originally due here on Dec 18th).

Lunch out with Mrs Oy, Oyling and me owd Mum.

An afternoon nap. Some nice Cognac lined up for this evening.

Not a bad day.

post the link ...I'm attempting to do a massive clearout over the next 2 weeks....I'd love to see what we shouldn't dare get rid of....

Back to work after the Christmas/New Year break. Although today was interrupted by a chiropractor appointment (which took a lot less time than the bus journey there and back). Over the break I did some work on a short story (first bit of fiction I've done for a while, yet another attempt at rewriting a story I first wrote 20+ years ago and was awful, hopefully this version of it won't be).

Off & on sNOw most of the day.
22 degrees out ,, some wind.

We both got. doing odds & end chores.
About 1, hubby said let's try that local restaurant that has ads about Shimp.

Back home & I was going to catch up on the postings here.

Fell asleep,,knocked over paperwork from last year's bills.

Time to get moving,,put the freshly washed bedding on our bed.
Check the home made dog food that's simmering on the stove.
