Been to the gym, paid bills, groceries and Walmart run…. Put together a big pot of veggie soup — although official ‘soup weather’ keeps playing peek-a-boo with us 🙄

@Georgiagranny, I’m glad you weren’t at that fast food place when the shooting started. It’s ridiculous how an altercation going from misunderstanding to shooting a gun to settle things!
Misunderstanding, my eye! Most of the people who work there are very aggressive and hostile and in each other's faces every day!

I was allowed to get my feet wet for the first time in over two weeks. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of taking a shower, at last! I thought I forgot how!

Nurse coming this morning to change dressing on both feet.

Also stripped stinky bed and will be putting on clean sheets!

Hope this new cleanliness means something other than feeling good, hope it's new beginning. I think I'm starting to feel left foot again. Not positive, being cautious.
A shower is so great after you haven't been able to take one! And yes, a new beginning Pepper! 🏵

The elk in the neighborhood must be in full rut. The bulls are bugling non-stop in the dark, wish I could see them, they're in my side yard!

We're off to Jellystone today, a trip I've been anticipating for a year so needless to say up way to early. It's about 270 miles to W Yellowstone and another 90 min drive past that to our campground. The Wx is mostly predicted to be sunny and mild(for Yellowstone) w just a couple days of rain/snow predicted. Those days coincide w my wife's 65th birthday so a night off in a motel seems like a smart move since I'm already pushing her to edge of her camping limits.

The typical day starts w coffee and a bowl of oatmeal. We drive a mile or so to known wolf watching spots, view wolves and all the other animals and birds for a couple hours. We have a small spotting scope and some good binos. There are a few people that dedicate their lives to wolf watching and their are very willing and happy to show others their hobby. Perhaps we'll be lucky enough to renew some acquaintances from last year.

Back to camp for brunch, a bit of rest, my wife knits or reads or we can go for a hikes on several trails that originate in the campground. I prefer hiking mid-day to reduce the chances of running into a bear. Then as most Yellowstone visitors are returning from their day driving around we again make our way out to view animals in the Lamar Valley as wildlife activity builds towards sundown. We might be searching for another pack of wolves to view or perhaps see some bears. In the past years we have found spots that we can view mtn goats, and bighorn sheep so there's plenty to keep us busy.

Food is a big part of the experience for me as the family cook and I know my wife is happier eating well. Putting out good food under less than ideal conditions is a challenging, but fun!

Last year a buck ran into our back yard which is quite unusual. We get doe sometimes. Anyway, DH was off to hunt the next day and got a nice buck. When he saw the buck come in the yard after the doe he knew the rut had started.

Here we are again! It's Monday except really not because when you're retired, every day is Saturday.

One more kitchen cabinet is gonna get purged/cleaned this morning. Not making a plan beyond that because I'd probably be biting off more than I can chew again.

My turn to make supper. It's gonna be stuffed bell peppers. I might get a wild hair and make something for dessert, too. It remains to be seen.
To me, Saturday and Sunday are the new work week and rest day.
Monday through Friday is the weekend for seniors.

Due to my "advancing" age I'm dabbling in semi homemade recipes for the holidays....and beyond.
I just took some pumpkin breads out of the oven made with a Dunkin Hines Spice Cake Mix, a can of pumpkin, eggs, and oil. Sugar sprinkled on top. They smell really good. If they pass the taste test I'm in. No measuring all those ingredients!
Sometimes things have to be easy. There's certain special things I'll make from scratch I suppose.

@hearlady Me, too. I don't know if it was a point of pride or if there just weren't so many mixes available, but I used to bake everything from scratch. Now? Bread. Scones. Cookies. Candy. Um...can't think of much!

Years ago I commented that my step-mother's pie crust was really good and wanted to know her secret. She laughed and said "Already Ready Pie Crust" and to just roll it out a bit because otherwise it's as thick as shoe leather. I've been a believer ever since.

DS2 had us over for a turkey dinner once and served dressing that was to die for. I asked him for the recipe. "Stove Top, Mom!" and all he did was cook and crumble some sage sausage, drain, and dice an apple to add to it. Sold! I only ever make it like that now.

Cakes? Whatever mix is cheap and do a little doctoring.

When I'm cooking real food, like for dinner, it's made from scratch, but does that even count? When it was just DH and me, I'd occasionally get a Hormel roast beast and Bob Evans mashed potatoes. It's too expensive to do that now when feeding all four of us.

I'm such a good-cook fraud! LOL

Yesterday I found the paperwork I had to take to the lab today for a zillion or two blood tests.

Today, I signed in at the lab, and discovered that I had forgotten to bring the paperwork with me. So I went next door to my doctor's office to ask for copies of any labs I hadn't gotten to in the last couple of years. There was only one. The woman who was helping me said, oh good, your AIC test is on this requisition.

Oh goody. Just the thing I don't want tested. You do not want to know how much ice-cream, candy, and cookies I have eaten over the last 2 months. Some days that was all I ate. The AIC test is for average blood sugar over 3 or 4 months, I think. The doc is not going to be happy about that -- pre-diabetes concerns.

I wonder if he mentions it, would it be rude or nosy to politely ask him when he is going to go on a diet? He is definitely eating way too much! I'd say he can lose 50 or more pounds to be within shouting distance of a healthy weight. He's my age. He could have diabetes! I have never mentioned it, and if we are talking about my weight, I am tactful (yes! you can believe that!), and don't say anything that could possibly make him feel badly. Docs and friends and family all think I am too thin. I don't. But I want to get him to stop thinking about AIC's and diabetes, and such, as it pertains to me.

I don't extol the virtues of being quite thin, mainly because there probably aren't any. The truth is, my mother's favorite saying to me and my sister was something along the lines of how ladies can never be too rich or too thin. That's been a cliche for decades by now. Her favorite thing to say to waiters, when my sister and I were out with her, was "We are all on diets, so we don't want any dessert". We were all thin by golly, so I protested that mightily and got my dessert (my mom didn't want to risk other restaurant patrons overhearing me).

I'll go back to the lab this week. I screwed up the map app's directions to the doc's office and accidentally found a much easier way to get there.

I also found out the surgeon my doc wanted me to call has something to do with finding out whether my gallbladder should be removed. I apparently have a lot of gallstones, even though I have no symptoms. So I told doc to forget it, and then researched it and decided he was right. So I said that, expecting him to say great, let's get that thing yanked out right away. But no,, now he wants to see if the surgeon agrees. If s/he/it says to get it gone, I will.

At least my first removed body part will be something I've never seen. I want the surgeon to save it and the gallstones, so I can see them and look at them under a microscope. You think that's gross??? At least you don't have a sister who sends you photos of the contents of her cat's excrement so you can advise her on whether the cat has worms or really anything else that is not supposed to be in a cat! Now that is gross!

It is a total PITA becoming a Compliant Patient. Worse than being a sister!

PS Something for y'all to feel great about. A banana split, which anyone can easily make at home, is both fruit and dairy groups, so two nutritious groups eaten for the price of one! Protein too, in the dairy, and in the nuts, if you add them.

This week it will be 5 years since I lost my son. I don't wish to exploit his memory but I feel it shoud be honored in some way. I know very few people who knew him. I have gathered a few photos and sketches.

Oh, Sweetie, that must be totally devastating, even now. I am so sorry about that. You are not exploiting his memory; you simply could never do that. You have a heart overflowing with love for him.

Did you draw those fantastic sketches?

of course he should be honoured, I totally agree... this world had him as their son....and everything he achieved.. whatever that may have been, he must not be forgotten , and his life must be celebrated by you his precious mother.. and his family and friends.... I hope he lives on in many people's memories who knew him and loved him... R.I.P ...

I did check on side effects on this new med, and nothing firm
on the way I'm feeling, but I believe it is causing my isssues,
which is not too serious....will give it till monday and if problem
persists or gets worse will call the doc.....
was it something for your lungs or what hawkie?

It's getting serious: over 200 new houses will be built a quarter mile from us.

Five years ago, the orange groves were shredded; and several times I saw survey crews (the yellow jackets at the far right.)

Left: This morning I watched a machine digging deep holes, probably for the required percolation tests. That's the beginning.
Right: We are standing where houses will be built, as well as on the other side of the ravine.

24 acres are reserved as nature preserve; hopefully it's the wild area where we are. My pups instinctively are guarding every direction for danger.
