How is your day Today? Chat about your plans and achievements 2026....

Good morning everyone. I have two rather urgent work deadlines I need to meet, and then I must run some errands. I reaaalllly don't want to go outdoors, because we're under a Winter Weather Advisory, with snow and high winds, but I think I'd rather brave the elements today and not have to go out later this week, when the temperatures are supposed to be absolutely brutal. Thursday's high is forecast to be 23 below 0 F (–31 C), so today seems like the better option. Or should I say, the lesser of two evils.

Yesterday I got a refund from Amazon for two items, including a birthday gift for my younger daughter's boyfriend, that were presumed lost in transit by the USPS. Then the items—of course!—finally did arrive. I contacted Amazon, who said to just go ahead and keep them. Money has been very, very tight, and I'd actually planned on returning the birthday gift. (I'd already explained to my younger daughter.) So that (i.e., getting the items for free) was rather nice.

I'd better get to work. I know good chunks of the States are in a deep freeze; I hope everyone here is staying warm. ☀️

Well the electrician arrived.. he put all the sockets into place, and now the appliances are all up and running except the washing machine which needs to be plumbed in. However there was certain plugs needed for my Extractor hood, and he didn't have any with him, so he's gone to buy some... and he's driving a Tesla, and he said he was almost out of battery and did I know where he could charge his car... we don't have any electric chargers here.. ( the irony hasn't escaped me , an Electrician running out of charge) but in the farm 2 miles down the lane.. they have some, so I directed him there.

In the meantime Royal Mail said they'd delivered my parcel.. this is the delivery van rather than the postman. They'd left it outside on my doorstep apparently , but when I looked it wasn't there.. so I entered the tracking number and they had delievred it to someone's doorstep but it wasn't mine.... :oops: tried to contact RM..but they say to wait 48 hours..FGS I paid to have this item fast delivery... so I've just wasted that money.. because now if I ever get it..I might as well have just had it ordinary post.....sooo annoying.

In the meantime, I've been taking all the plastic wrap and inner polystyrene that protects all the shelves on the appliances

The delivery drivers unwrapped all of them from their outside packing but there was a lot to take off from inside the machine and the fridge freezer...very well protected I must say

Morning all, on my early walk at 6:50 temp was 17 with slight breeze, didn't; go far halfway around the building and back before breakfast
My friend, Mary picking me up at 9:30, our 'road trip' this week our favorite $ store then to another local grocery store, Tops she needs to get a couple of things. Its nice to go somewhere after being stuck inside past couple of days due to the bitter cold temps/or blowing snow. Today the high will feel 'balmy' in the 30's
The rest of my day read today's NYT, see what the lunch/dinner menu is today
Tonight after dinner, tackle NYT crossword puzzle,watch at 8pm on PBS program' Nature'

Sorry to hear about your parcel going astray Holly, there is a way of making sure that you get what you ask for, on time, every time. When you order make sure that whoever is sending the goods knows that you want to see the signed and printed name on the carrier's driver's run sheet. It's known simply as: Proof of Delivery. A photo on a doorstep is not proof of delivery.
The driver will have an electronic delivery device that he taps into, with your name and you sign the screen. Had that have happened with Royal Mail the people at the wrong address would have flagged up the error.

that's very difficult to get an online shop like Amazon to send anything proof of delivery..... :unsure:
 
Despite my firmly advising my daughter (not begging) to stay in France, she is going to Canada on the 30th, staying for a week with her former friends/work mates, and then going to Chicago to start a new job as a data scientist (do not ask me; I skipped data in my education).

My daughter is loud, strident, and enjoys getting in the middle of things to fight injustice and I do not want her to get herself into trouble. Last time she crossed the US border from Canada she was detained and questioned as though she was married to the US but having an affair with Canada -- for an hour!

Now, she claims she is the most polite person on earth now. This is because many people she has interacted with in France think she is rude. She is not rude by American standards (ie, she is not loud and strident unless she is fighting for a cause). The French seem to be really different from Americans -- the cultural differences amazed me.

Now I'm thinking that if I were to move to Europe (I'm not, just daydreaming for fun), I'd have to move to Ireland in order to fit in. Since my great grandparents came over here, my relatives have all married other Irish people, except for my dad. And allegedly my great grandfather on my grandmother's side was a Native American, but I have done a pretty good job of not having any dna that isn't European. To me, that means no Native Americans (sad). But to my 19 first cousins it means my dad was the milk man! (If they aren't teasing, I'll beat 'em up.)

Anyway, she is moving to Chicago.

Why are you advising her to stay in France?
