How is your day Today? Chat about your plans and achievements 2026....

Happy Friday, all. I managed all my errands during the week and my house is sparkly clean, so it should be an easy-breezy day. A nice day ahead weather-wise.

Might get a jump on sketching out my business ordering, but I'm delaying placing most of orders until May 10th because I don't want to be wrangling 50 or more big, heavy cartons by myself.

DH is getting a lumbar epidural (lower back) back today and will have to drastic limit any lifting activity for a couple of weeks while it takes full effect.

Hope all can make today a good one!
I've had that several times in my lower back... they stopped doing it after a while because the effects lasted for shorter and shorter time...

Today has been just a glorous hot sunny day...it's like the middle of summer instead of April. It's still sunny and warm now at racing towards 6pm

I met up with my best friend for tea at this riverside place which is a favourite of ours... after I'd been to the waste & recycle site, and dropped off some metal things...
Jordans-cafe-HD.jpg

Then we drove to the next large town, and had our cars washed and valeted... and while they were being done we went shopping.

I bought an artifical triple ball tree similar to this...
gardenwize-garden-outdoor-solar-powered-artificial-twist-topiary-plant-tree-in-pot-5026637677823-02c.jpg
... and a large Clay pot..... I got 2 new Table lamps as well... to replace ones I've had for many years.....altho' the old ones are still in very good condition, I just want to replace them to match in with new decor...
From there I left, and went and got some groceries from the frozen food warehouse.... and on the way home I stopped off at KFC and had 2 chicken drumsticks and Ice cold coke...... delicious !

All of this took in 4 seperate towns and long drives between each... and my hip was fine.... bearing in mind I drive a manual car

That's been his experience, too. This go-round his pain management doc used a fresh MRI as guidance.

He injects a combination of kenalog (steriod) and contrast into DH's back while DH lies on a special table that projects images of the contrast onto the screen in real time. That way the doc can make sure the steroids are reaching the intended targets.

Eventually, DH will probably need another back surgery (he had one in 1989), but he can avoid it for as long as the kenalog is effective.

The lidocaine hasn't yet worn off in the injection site so he's still feeling pretty good. He did say he'll be feeling pain from the injection later today through the next several days.

Was your hip injection experience similar?

yes it was but not a table projecting contrast....

I've had these injections in my back the most, followed by my knees and new my hip.. and your husband is correct, it takes some time for the lidocaine to wear off, and during that time, if you don't know better you think you've hit the instant pain eraser.. because it's all numbed and you're feeling no pain...until 24 hours later... and if sometimes feels like much WORSE pain than prior to the injection.. but that eventually wears off over a week or 2 week.. giving hopefully a good few months of relief ...

I am usually a very fast talker, typical of NY/NJ residents. When I moved to the Midwest, most people there speak slower & I initially would sometimes finish their sentences. That was wrong, so I stopped. But sometimes it became agonizing waiting for them to complete their thoughts. It's a relaxing lifestyle there, and over time I adjusted accordingly. 😀😃

same same... West coast Scots are fast talkers, just like their Irish ancestors... and so I was the same when I came down to the slow talking south.... no-one could understand what I was saying, and the constant cry from people was ''if you slow down I might understand you''

You know that situation where you park in a huge almost empty car park and you come back to the car and some Knob has parked right next to you ?... well I had that happen today !

The retail car park was comapritively empty...I knew I'd need plenty space to be able to get bulky items into my car.. I have a tiny boot so they have to go into the back seat...

I parked well away from the store where most people park right outside... and when I came out , there was one car parked right up against me... we were surrounded by empty spaces, yet he chose to park right next to me.

Fortunately he;d just got out of his car as I came out of the store.. carrying these big items.. so I saw him, and I asked him why he felt it necessary to park right up against me when there was loads of other spaces just feet away... .. he got irritated and said he can park where he likes, but I explained that I;d deliberately parked far away because I needed the space.. and so eventually he moved his car into the space behind... but really why do people do that ?

HD, are you okay? I have never seen you post something like this.

you mean the spelling mistakes ?.... happens all the time when my hand hurts.....since the accident...

If you mean the content... it was something and nothing ... it's just irritating when there's a big empty car park and someone parks right next to you, so you can barely open the car doors... . however I was lucky today because I saw the guy get out of his car and I was able to ask him to move..

Close to midnight, my 19 months old Boxer puppy Rex sounded a real alarm for the first time in his life. We all rushed outside, and I immediately smelled, LOL, a skunk. Obviously, Rex had smelled it already inside the house.

I could write a book about animal stories that I experienced while living at the far outskirts of Los Angeles. Just a few more stories from my memory.

We had a few chickens and a rooster. At nightfall, they were all back in the chicken coop, but the rooster was missing. I searched all over the place. Finally I saw it at the end of my search light: a raccoon was washing its paws in the creek bed, and before it was my rooster like dead. It took our rooster three full days before it woke up from its coma and came back to life.

The rooster also discovered that inside our breeze walk his crowing sounded twice as loud. When he started entertaining us also at night, then I habitually locked it up.

At night I heard a racket in the garden. OK, Animal Control had given me a dog cage to trap curious coyotes. So, I went out and for sure, I had trapped one. Under a flashlight, I thought I looked the devil in its face. Incredibly wild and ferocious. Before calling Animal Control in the morning, I went and checked the cage; but the coyote was gone. Incredibly, it had worked itself out of the dog cage.

Habitually, I hiked a 3K tall mountain with my pups, starting at about 1,300 feet. While adjusting her collar, my Doberman slipped out of my hands and started chasing a coyote that I hadn’t noticed. Both were gone quickly, and I went after them searching hours. In the distance, I saw crows circling in the air that made me fearing the worst. I searched that area but nada. When it got dark, I went crying back to the parking lot ..... and saw my pup waiting for me and obviously asking, “Where have you been all the time?”

With four of my pups, we marched in line on a narrow trail. From time to time, I looked back. Yes, my Boxer “Heidi 1” (now I have Heidi 2) and Boxer Fritz behind me. The latter turned his head around every minute for any possible danger approaching from behind. Suddenly Heidi was missing. I called and was at a loss, but my Doberman Betsy instinctively understood the situation and assumed the leadership, leading us back for some distance, turning sharply left off the trail, and through the wilderness up and down till I saw Heidi in the distance in coyote country. I was so happy.

My daughter had a blue-nose Pit Bull. Even though she was on a long leash, she suddenly jumped behind a bush. What I didn’t see was that Bella attacked a rattlesnake and got bitten. I immediately started walking back downhill to the car. By that time, her head and neck had swollen, but two very expensive anti-venom injections at an emergency animal hospital saved her life.

And then there was my other daughter's Great Dane at 125 pounds. After we had walked the same trail three times, I wanted to go differently the fourth time. But Sir Mordred started arguing with me, "Dummy, don't you know where we have to walk?" I think the larger a dog is, the more intelligent and self-assured a dog is.

Well, I could go on and on; but I guess, you can imagine what life is like at the edge of civilization.

Above, I started out with my puppy Rex. On the photo below, he is the one furthest to the left. The picture was taken about six months ago.

So many of our loved ones are resting in our pet cemetery, while their souls are in dog heaven.

My wife's life turns around our grandson, whom she watches often while the parents are gone; as well as the church, her garden, and
her chickens. The food for the chickens is generously shared with birds, gophers, and squirrels that make their way into the chicken
coop. Nowadays we have hawks nesting in our tall Eucalyptus trees, and we can no longer let the chickens roam around freely.

PS, having placed 900 posts on SeniorForums during the last three years, I intend taking a break to spend time cleaning up my
holy mess. I wish my wife would do the same; but being twenty years younger than I am, she has more time left than I am.

California has almost 40 million people. I read that California has some 70,000 licensed drivers age 100 and over. It’s my endeavor
to join them, but it’s in God’s hands to let me do it.

God loves you, and so do I.
God helps who helps himself.
This is the day God has made for us.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.
Tough times never last, but tough people do.

Good morning Peeps of SF from a glorious Saturday here....
good-morning-bird.jpg

Nothing planned for today except maybe some gardening later.... It's such a beautiful Saturday I'm sure families will be taking full advantage of it, and everywhere will be busy, so I'll stay home.

DD is going to a dog show up north for the weekend...

I've woken up again with a blocked ear.. it's very irritating , I got this a couple of weeks ago, and used some Otex, which didn't clear it completely, but it was ok.. now its back. I've used the Otex this morning , but its not cleared it... :cautious:
Have a super Saturday if you can.... 🌼

Since I've had a ramp installed and my pathways in the back garden widened, I can get outside easier in my wheelchair.
Looking out of the window earlier, all the bushes were a riot of colour, so out I went, then quickly came back in again because I was sneezing like mad. I suppose that the air is saturated with pollen, hence the sneezing.
When I've fed my face and emptied the teapot, I'm going out again, only this time with one of my covid masks on, hopefully the mask will help.

Enjoy your day folks. 😊

Morning all, noticed the papers that were to be delivered to other residents were sitting by the front desk. Usually the maintenance guy who works the over night shift delivers them, but today he didn't; I've done this before it took me 20 min,its helpful the apt# is on the top left hand corner of paper
When I came back ,then I went on my early walk at 7:10,lightly raining temp was 48 as I walked around the building.I doubt I'll be going out again today, rain in forecast temps in the 40's
My plans today,I've invited 2 church friends, sisters Cricket& Zandy for lunch at 12:15. The last time they were here was last Sept for dinner. Their mom,Mary Kent & my mom grew up together, their birthdays are 2 days apart in Dec. When my parents moved to NH in 1992, mom asked Mary Kent if she& her husband,Ted would look out for me,since I had no imm family living here,I became a part of their family. I affectionally still call Cricket& Zandy 'Sis'
Everybody have a good day

Well I did an hour of gardening, but the foxes or maybe the hedgehog family arising from their hibernation have knocked down the border edging planks which my x installed, and they not only edge the borders but they cover the wiring from the house to the barn... and so its all open to the elements now.

I had to go on Amazon and order some metal mending plates, and hopefully I can join the broken 6 foot plank to the existing ones by screwing the mending plates on..

I have no idea what I'm doing, just instinct..

In the meantime.. I've got the laundry on....

..it's still a glorious sunny day..very quiet, no traffic going past... I'm sure my supposition that everyone has gone out .. is right...

Woke up to rain & a slow mixed up computer??
How dare it be confused!

We've had breakfast ,, I'm here ,, hubby parked in front of TV!
Can't get used to him not working.

At my doctor appointment , Thursday,, the nurse practitioner gave me heck as I"m eating the wrong foods .
I've put on some weight ( 6 lbs)
Got a different med. for kidney function. o,yipeee,,,NOT. pleased about that!

I probably, won't be online much next week,,, hubby has appointments for at least 3 days .
Will start the radiation treatments, then dentist. ppm,,& eye exam.

@holly sounds like something I would fixing the planks.
Check "how to do " that before starting?

We finally had time to get a small,,Dump truck load of top soil.
Hubby got TOO much!

Strawberry bed is made,, asparagus patch has new soil.
I've got to finish weeding where we plan on planing tomato plants.

Beside all the flower beds need weeded. !!!!!!!!
Did I mention its raining????

Good morning. In an hour or so my son will be picking me up for the day in his neighborhood of Upper East Side Manhattan.

The weather isn’t good. It’s raining and will be an all day thing. DIL family will all be over for church and celebratory dinner at nearby Italian restaurant. The occasion is the first communion for my grandson. Although her family is thrilled I am not. In fact I’m annoyed. He has a mother and she is a dedicated Catholic so it’s none of my business. I object. Silently of course. I won’t even commiserate with my atheist son. Going to see my grandson which is always a good thing. Have a great meal. Enjoy the other guests.

Then son will take me home. Using the wheelchair so I don’t exhaust myself. My left foot always hurts to some degree.

My back is killing me now...my own fault.. 😖I told myself not to do any hard garden work today and to leave it until tomorrow and give my body a chance to recover from the last 2 days... but I didn't listen, and I cut back all the ivy, which involves a heavy hedge trimmer..., swept all that up with the big garden broom...

Then I came in and started batch cooking.. peeling veggies.. cooking minced beef etc... all while the laundry was being done...

I've cleared up the garden, I've washed up the pots and utensils.. the minced beef and veggies are cooking on the stove.. I've got all the laundry out of the dryer, I've just got to hang it all now.... so this is why I have very painful lower back...

You need to rest Holly. Take a painkiller or use a heating pad on your back. Kick back with a glass of wine and relax. You certainly did alot of work today

I don't drink alcohol...lol... I'm not finished yet, I have to take the food off the stove let it chill then I can portion up ready for the freezer... but Yes I was just thinking the same thing I need to find a heat pad...

I went around and put printed ads for the upcoming town-wide garage sale weekend in the post office, local bank and laundromat. Brushed cobwebs off of the front of the garage with a long-handled brush. I can't believe how dingy the garage looks even from last year. It's like somebody mixed fine brown dust and talcum powder and sprayed it on the siding/cladding. Some came off, most didn't.
