Today, starting at 2 PM, I'm supposed to get 8-11 inches of snow. Up here, it takes a day to get the roads plowed, so I ain't going no place for a while. Got the car gassed, an got bread and eggs. I'm not sure why but stores run out of bread before a snow storm, here. It's not like we'll never see the sun again.
Just started snowing here about five minutes ago.

I'm expecting the big snowstorm, too.
And trying to get thru this time of year.
Doing little things, trying to cope ,etc

Just wanted to say hello to all of you.

@hearlady
I hope you feel better very soon!

@StarSong
I wish your sore ribs could heal faster.

How much snow is predicted for your area? We're getting a few flurries now, then we'll get rain and are supposed to get between 3 - 6 inches by tomorrow (Sunday).

I can never understand this kind of thinking. At least a week's worth of food and staple supplies should be in people's pantries. People panic buying bottled water mystifies me. If you bought it for the last emergency, why not just keep it rather than drinking it and then having to panic buy it again six months later? Same with canned foods. When you use some up, replace them. Buy shelf stable milk for emergency back up.

It ain't rocket science.
I’d thought that too, until I realized some people just don’t cook - anything. It would be common sense to keep a few canned goods and water, especially when one lives in an earthquake prone area.

We should get snow today. I need to go get gas in the car.

I volunteered today, mostly outdoors, and my legs are still cold. That was two hours ago. I just can't keep my legs warm enough. Once I fill the gas tank, I am in for the day, I think.
tights under trousers ?... I can't afford to put my heating on for more than one hour a day which is a big problem now it's winter.. so I wear, leggings under my jogging pants... and wool socks...

My loyal hiking buddies. They are all adopted strays weighing a combined 245 pounds versus my 165 pounds. If they weren't blindly obedient, I wouldn't be able to handle them. Next month I'll be 88 and my strength is declining. Luckily I have some experience in handling dogs.

A teenager demonstrates how to systematically and efficiently demolish a car. That reminds me of a daughter of mine: at age 16, she had unauthorized a boy in her car, trying to show off her driving skills she knocked over a fire hydrant (the water company charged me $1K) and had the car badly damaged. Luckily in those days, I could take the car to Tijuana / Mexico (2 hours driving) where they hammered the car back into shape for peanuts.

Hiking uphill or downhill greatly impacts my blood pressure. But walking / hiking two hours a day keeps me going.

A homeless encampment on private property near our house. Luckily we have only a few homeless people in our area. My neighbors and I have given them already money to repair their cars and food for their dogs. Most of them are not really poor. They just don't have enough money to afford a proper shelter. Prices for apartments and houses have skyrocket. Anyway, California is one of the more expensive places to live.

All I wanted to do was to get a couple of pairs of thin socks to wear under my new electric socks. Yanno, just pop into Kohl's, get socks, proceed to check out and use my Kohl's cash (that came from I don't know where, but who cares? it was there so I was gonna use it) and come home.

That's all I wanted to do. Should have taken less than an hour.

Three hours later I'm home.

DGD wanted to come along. Fine. DD drives to DGD's place (10 miles), picks her up. DGD wanted to stop by her BF's work and say hello. Thirty minutes later we proceed to Kohl's, (another 10 miles back to our part of town). I find socks. They are browsing and then browsing some more. Eventually we all end up at the check out.

DGD says she's hungry. DD says she's hungry. I'm not hungry, but I'm captive. Drive thru at McDonald's. I figured WTH, why not? I ordered a fish sandwich or whatever it's called. Can you believe that? I haven't eaten anything like that in years. Years, I tell you! I scarfed it down like I hadn't eaten since last week, and I'll probably have a bellyache tonight.

So. I got socks and a fish sandwich. I dunno what they bought at Kohl's or what they ordered at McD's. DGD is spending the night so at least we didn't have to make the 20-mile round-trip back to her place.

It's still cold. The sun forgot to come out. My head hurts.

Spring is 73 days away.

Thanks for that silly and warm, friendly Hello back. You put a smile on my face.
We are likely to get between 6 inches and 14 inches of snow. It's called a Nor'easter type of storm here, due to the way the wind blows onshore, in a circular track. A ways North of Boston. It's going to be actively snowing the full day, on Sunday, they say.

As usual, I am hoping that we don't lose our power, which includes heat, warm foods/liquids/pain pads, etc.

My stress level was already high, so I've been trying to keep it from going any higher, from the storm, and from a landlord notice today, of things they will be doing in the building and apartment, on days of this coming week, in addition to a 2nd storm following a couple of days after this one. ugh.

I squeezed in a bit of relaxing sewing today, in between helping DH, and tending to basic needs.
Yesterday my sewing box fell and cleaning up from that, replaced the short sewing activity with a longer, less enjoyable task. ;)

I'm thinking of all of you, including others who are expecting this storm in different locations, and those who are coping with other challenges at the moment.

Just got back from Williamsburg Va. A nice week except for the stomach bug I picked up. I spent Thursday in bed then took it easy for the rest of the week.
The perils of travel sometimes. 😊

To all in the big snowstorm coming, be safe!
We ran into torrential rain a good part of our way home.

I've committed myself to take a one night trip to NYC next week! I'm kind of all terrified and freaked out about it.

But I've got a hotel reservation, train tickets round trip, and a ticket to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

So, if all goes well, I'll take a train Wednesday afternoon and arrive in NY around 5 pm, supposedly only have to walk 900 ft to the hotel, I doubt I'll try to do anything other than find dinner and then go to bed. Then Thursday I'll somehow navigate the bus or subways to find the museum, spend some time there, have lunch, maybe walk in Central Park, then navigate back to the hotel to get my little suitcase, and then get back to the train station, after which I should arrive late (like 10 pm) to Washington DC and have to scurry around finding metro train + bus back home (close enough to walk the rest of the way).

My 2024 goal includes remember YOLO and getting myself to go places. Bit scary though!

@HoneyNut, you got this. You have traveled a lot by yourself. Chose to make a new home for yourself in DC.

I have never done these type of things. I have only traveled twice alone for business trips. I always had someone from the company meet me at the airport. They got me where I needed to be, took me out for all my meals, even walked me to my door in the hotel. I only wish I was brave enough to get out on my own. I can afford it and it is ridiculous that I am afraid to even try.

Today was the first day of my (exercise) life...again! My BFF and I decided we'd exercise together...by phone. She is an exercise fanatic and lives in another state. She calls me 5 or 6 days a week when she starts her routine (walking several miles, swimming and biking)..usually during her walk. Considering my new health challenges and wanting to help me with my weight loss quest, she came up with the idea that we'd do this. It serves as a motivator for me and I'll be accountable to her if I don't get some exercise in.

Today I walked to Leslie Sansone's 1 mile video. I can and have walked more than a mile but I felt tired today. Tomorrow it will probably be "biking" with my mini peddler. I also reorganized the tops and pants in my closet plus did the SOS I do daily as in previous posts

Honey...if you can avoid the subway, do it at all costs! I used to take the subway to go to Harlem when I attended Jazzmobile. I was so glad when someone told me how to get there by bus. You couldn't pay me to take a NYC subway now. I hope your hotel is close enough to the museum that you can take an Uber, Lyft or cab. Also whatever you do, don't act like a tourist who's in awe of being in "the City", as we call it when you're walking around. Hold tight to your purse and better yet, get the mini pouch type that you can wear under your coat. Got three of these from Amazon, but you should be able to find something similar in stores.

Of course, I'm sure you know to check your bed and room for bedbugs. Advice is to leave your suitcase in the bathroom if possible and don't put it on the bed

I bet you will really enjoy the museum. NYC offers so much culture but I haven't been over there in a long time, at least not for entertainment purposes. Believe it or not, i've never been to Central Park. Last time I was over there, it was with my husband who bought wholesale goods to put in his store. I had to move the car if and when necessary because finding parking was next to impossible.

I traveled alone a lot, not only before I married my second husband, but sometimes after we got married. I always kept in mind the harm reduction course the State Dept. of Health provided for those of us who were in the field. Always stay aware of your surroundings, never leave your purse or drinks unattended and have a way to defend yourself if necessary. When you do travel alone enough times, it ceases to be scary. I can't wait to read about how you make out with your adventures. Enjoy your trip! :D

@HoneyNut . @OneEyedDiva knows the big city and she gives some wonderful advice. I would also add, don't wear jewelry or any expensive clothing, handbags or shoes. Those things go be an invite to be mugged. I even avoid doing these things around town anytime. I don't ask for no trouble and I have received none.
That's also excellent advice Blessed! @HoneyNut should do nothing to draw extra attention to herself and she'll be fine.

Do you keep a digital version too. I had a large portion of file drawer dedicated to recipe folders. Bit by bit, I’ve transferred or disposed of most of them. I save new recipes that I find on my computer too. I read my from iPad or print a copy when I’m making something new. I’ll update them with comments as I go. Occasionally I’ll give an updated copy to my DDs or DGDs.
Had one digital recipe book with over 90 recipes and photos. When I transferred a copy of back-up to new tablet, I got message to reinstall. I did and it wiped out said back-up.

Went to read comments on Google playstore and found out the truth. Unless you buy the app outright, you're left with nothing. How nice of them... At least, I've the pages on the browser bookmarked and the YouTube videos are saved, but I'm faced with finding a new app which prints in PDFs and actually backs up on cloud.

So far, only one of my favourites has gone missing online. I suspect that the original poster took down his recipe, bummer!

We got a lot of snow yesterday afternoon and through out the night. I woke up around 3 or 4 to the sound of snow removal going on. I didn't get up. Was in the middle of a dream about bears. Not going outside today unless I have to go to the dumpster. That is a short walk so should be okay later on today. If it keeps snowing, I will skip it.

First Sunday of this New Year, 2024. It's a frosty (givrer partout), cold and thick peasouper fog. It's the wall of fog. As per pic...
A Frosty Morning on the Rhine Photographed by Patrick Hübschmann!.jpg

Weather app says it's -1°C but feels as 2°C. Indoor temp is hovering round 15-16°C mark and my hands and feet are popsicles 😆❄️🥶. House is warm enough so are the radiators, so not believe thermometer temp much ...

Quiet morning so far, had glass of orange juice, now onto coffee (brewed single cuppa with wee cone filter, Christmas gift) and catching up on YouTube videos on my feed.

All things well on the Western Front 😆😋🙃😸

@HoneyNut

Have a wonderful time in NYC! I'll be thinking of you! Too bad your trip is so short. The Met is a once in a lifetime experience. If you have time, visit the gift shop. My favorite painting there is
upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e5/JoanOf...
Joan of Arc by Jules Bastien-Lepage, you must see it, it's huge! Look for the angels in the trees! Visit the cafe, the Roman, the Greek, the Medieval, have the best day!
