@Pepper It was 34 years ago! Probably not anything on the web. We were on a show about childhood sweethearts who went off and lived their lives, then found one another again and got married.

One couple, Dan Wakefield and his wife, were personal friends of Donahue. He was a year or two older than his wife, but they went to the same high school, met again years later and she admitted that she'd had a crush on him. Turned out the feeling was mutual, although neither knew it.

Anyway, it turned into the subject of one of Donahue's shows. Wakefield is an author, and a couple of his books were made into movies. Starting Over with Burt Reynolds, Jill Clayburgh, Candace Bergen, and Going All the Way with Ben Affleck.

Oh my goodness, that is my fear of using the bus. That it won't pick me up to bring me home. Maybe it was just too much for you because you had not walked the hill in a long time.
yes and I was young then too.... but it gets better, ( sc) Normally an MOT takes a few hours and you get the car back same day if it passes.. but I'm having some boots fitted on the suspension or something..don't ask me I'm not technical... and the boss has just rung me at 1.30pm.. said he forgot I was dropping the car off today and hadn't ordered the parts, so he has to order them today and my car won't be ready until Wednesday...Wednesday:eek:

Just ridiculous because he's known since the 21st of December.. ..plus if I'd know they hadn't ordered the parts and I wouldn't have the car for days I would have gone and got some more milk and bread... verrrrry annoying..

It better pass after all this..I've never once had any trouble with the previous garage where I used to take it

Just started snowing.......thank goodness it waited until I got home, and I wasn't trying to walk up the hill in it...

Been up to the Barn to cover everything with tarpaulin because the weight of the snow on the roof make it leak through.. *sigh*... and also got enough supplies out of the freezer to last a couple of days... save me having to walk out up the garden in deep snow..

....just popping in to say hi!

Yesterday was soooo busy! In the morning, I went for a walk, just over 2 miles.

After dinner, I was getting ready to go outside to transplant 2 rose of Sharon bushes, when I heard a noise outside. I looked out the window, and there, next to the barn, was Dio with a chainsaw...standing next to a 50 tree that he had just cut down! 😲

Well, I did transplant my bushes. By the time I was done, he had the tree cut into logs. While he racked the logs (to be split some other day), I started dragging branches into the woods. We were able to get the entire tree done, and the yard cleaned up, before it got too dark to see.

After we went in for the day, we took a break and watched a tv show.

Next....time to cut Dio's hair. He has an appointment with his skin doctor on Tue, so he wanted his hair cut before that appointment.

I was exhaust by bedtime! It's no surprise that we both slept in this morning!!

Just when I thought I'd heard of everything, DD showed me a tube of something that looked like refrigerated dough for cookies. Turned out to be dough for banana bread. Cut off the end of the plastic wrapper, squeeze it into a loaf pan, bake, et voila! banana bread.

I don't even want to know what's next.
I've only made banana bread so as not to waste bananas that were heading south. For me, banana bread is just ok - I'll eat it if it's here but wouldn't cross the street to get some.

It's hard to imagine pre-made banana bread dough would catch on, but then again I thought Uncrustables (frozen PB & J sandwiches) were a joke. Nope. They've been robust sellers for somewhere around 20-25 years. I've always thought the were the height of laziness. What's simpler than making a PB & J sandwich?

Frozen PB&J sandwiches ... seriously ?..OMG!!

Oh dear Hollydolly, you're really not having the luck. Suspension boots are corrugated 'rubber' covers that protect the shock absorbers from dirt and grit. I hope it's not an expensive job.
Still freezing here. it was -2C at lunch time.
he told me £60 for the parts and £240 for the labour... total £300 ..then the MOT cost on top...

Our neighbor's tiny Mini-Dobie has the courage of insanity. Every time we pass, it threatens to kill us. Finally I had to take a picture. One street further lives a tiny Chihuahua who runs in tight circles around us, barking, and has my guys shaking their heads in disbelief about that feisty little thing.

@hollydolly we have to do the same here. I believe they have changed it so inspection is not required for two years on new vehicles. I dread it every year but I do proactive maintenance to try and take care of the car and be ahead of any problems.
Nah, we don't have any such inspection requirement any longer. The last we did was a long time ago and mainly a safety inspection.

In most states those seem to be a racket run for profit. Most of it has been privatized, farmed out to repair chains.

I think Germany has similar crazy laws. California is different. Nothing the first 8? years, and then every two years only a smog check at a licensed private business. 2001+ cars have an about ten minute test; older cars need some more checks. Our cars have never failed. I usually pay about $40 - $50 that includes a $8 automatic online report to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

However, the California Highway Patrol / County Sheriff / City Police can give you tickets for unsafe or unlawfully equipped cars. But such tickets are usually only a mandate to correct the faulty equipment within a certain time period without penalties.

For example, I glued some some sunshade film on the driver's side window that I had to remove. But then my dermatologist gave me a letter that I had skin cancer and needed protection. So far untested. The CHP apparently has discontinued the practice of stopping cars for just minor infractions. However, one crazy sheriff deputy gave me a $60 ticked for driving with an expired annual license sticker on my car license plate. Yes, my negligence.

Enjoy? Enjoy being cold. Enjoy not playing in the dirt? Enjoy not having flowers to admire?
Is there anything like this near you?

Van Attas :: Home

Check out their events page, and of course there is always greenhouse browsing for the hardest SADdest days of the cold months. You can look, and then make a purchase... or not.

Nearby Michigan State University's Horticulture Department also has large greenhouses, and every so often they do a Winter Open House or a Butterfly House for the public.

Just some thoughts.

Then, he should just shuttle you back and forth and he better MAKE himself charming and handsome if he isn't.
If he can't do that then he better be extra kind and bring pastries and champagne. And smell good.
I had a bad customer service day. I'm out for blood.

ha I if only I was 25 again, that might happen.....:D....go on what happened today to get you sooo mad.. ?

I had to go in for some Lab work, just a blood draw and two "samples" where I took home containers and waited until I could satisfy those, then went back to drop the samples off.

Afterward, across the street there is a good-sized grocery store. Not a chain, just an indy.

Wow. Cutthroats from Aldi's to Costco are killing those guys. Like a ghost town, and prices were downright scary! Bought enough to see me through the snow that's on the way this week and it was quite a price total. Deli counter had my stomach rumbling, rotisserie chickens and deep frying of shrimp and I'd been fasting since last night's supper to my 10 AM shopping.

Treated myself to a "breakfast" of a half handful of raw unsalted almonds and a chocolate chip cookie with my coffee. I shouldn't cheat like that.

Oh, not really bad especially compared to yours. And all was really my fault.
I went to the commissary to restock after the holidays. I forgot that they've changed so that Mondays the regular check outs are closed. The store is open only to serve the troops picking up lunch items and anyone else with a FEW items.
So I get up there with my large cart full and had to check it all out myself, in which I did a fabulous job, I must say.
I had two coupons, just two. Of course, the self checkout rejected them so all my work not to inconvenience anyone and now the machine makes me inconvenience people because I refuse to lose $5.00. They overrode it after I had to prove I had the correct items which meant digging through bags. I've only been shopping there 31 years but theft is so bad at the self checkouts they can't trust anyone.
So, not too bad. I have to remember, don't go on Monday!
