Yesterday, as I promised myself, I gave my cookbook a few hours. (It's a 3" binder with plastic sheet covers). Ditched some recipes, updated and retyped others, and am updating the table of contents as I go along. Right now I'm about halfway through my Christmas Cookie section - the recipes with the most notes, so most need to be retyped or at least reprinted.

Today will be the hottest here this year, topping out at 103°F (20% humidity). I'll be glad to see the return to more moderate (low 90s) summer temps starting Friday.

No cookbook time today - our little fella will be spending the day here. We're taking advantage while we can because come September he'll be in some kind of 5 day a week program, so we'll likely be down to weekend visits. Sadness.

Other than an early swim with him, it'll be an at home day.

@hawkdon You're now in your 86th orbit🛰️ Woohoo. And sober for half my age. Those are both accomplishments!

The first set of pavers have been reset. Yay. There are more but not today. It's a blessedly cool 74 right now with a nice breeze, and my gardening chores have already been done. The lawn needs to be mowed, but it'll still be there later. Or tomorrow. Or some other time. It hasn't grown much in the past couple of weeks because of a serious lack of rain.

I've got inside things to do, including making lemon blueberry bread. I found a recipe online that looks really good, and quick breads aren't any trouble to make.

Wonder what @hollydolly is up to? Whatever it is, I'm willing to bet that she has a camera at the ready! Wait! Wasn't she supposed to go to court July 10? Today is July 10.

I went down to the laundry room and washed clothes at 3:00 a.m. Walked to the gym, used the treadmill for about 25 minutes and was home by 8:17.

I dropped my phone on the treadmill and the screen protector cracked a little. It's hardly noticeable, but with my OCD I'm going to have to replace it. I'll wait until a cooler day to walk to the MetroPCS store.

It's 9:30 and I'm drying the clothes. I will have to put the ones from last week that are still in the basket away as well as ( at the very least) the ones I dry today that go on hangers. I also intend to relax and watch B movies.

Happiness is:
having some 24/7 loyal companions who give you their unconditional love. In my experience, dogs appreciate security (sleeping under
or next to my bed,) predictability (they love routines,) and closeness to their pack leader. The guy on the left wants to become #1 and
that causes some friction. The left guy is trying to convince me that he is the strongest, most loyal, and most obedient of the pack to
gain my support in climbing up in the pecking order. But the center guy will always be my #1.

Left My older daughter, who works in China, is home on vacation. She is renting a Toyota Corolla that is cheaper than taking her 2008
Toyota Yaris out of the mothball and having it re-registered and insured for a year.
Right We have visited my daughter in China several times and have currently a valid ten-year visa. Because of Covid, we went the last
time in 2017. Now my wife wants to go again. For planning, I like best www.google.com/travel because it gives a price history, whether
it is a good time to book now, or to keep waiting for the prices to dip again. Chinese airlines are tricky: they give you the best price the
first time you check and then it goes up and up. But if you wait 24 hours, then the price is back to square one.
I don't like inter-continental flights. For me it's a kind of a torture. Non-stop Los Angeles to Hong Kong flying against the wind takes
about 16 hours; coming back and catching the jet stream it's maybe 3 hours shorter.

Our Silk Tree is in full bloom. But termites invaded it, and the tree will eventually die. There is a bee in the right flower drinking nectar.
A year ago, my wife bought two chicks. One turned out to be a rooster, and she gave it away and bought two more chicks. The hen didn't
like it and was mean to the newcomers. But after a few weeks, everything is peaceful, and we are expecting soon an abundance of eggs.

Went to DMV this morning to obtain new driver's license and truck license plates. I was served by the nicest DMV employee I have encountered in my 63 years of driving. I expected the typical government ordeal but it actually went smoothly and efficiently.

New drivers license is valid through 2032. I wonder if I have any hope of lasting that long.

Played with the heat pump today ...

Hooked the manifold gauges up for the first time on my own
Found the 18+yr old heat pump is working really well
In spite of finding and replacing a faulty Schrader valve core this morning, the pressures are only ever so slightly below and maybe out of spec. Much better pressures than I thought there would be. I could call it good as it is, but will have refrigerant here Monday and will top off the system to get perfect pressure specs. Won''t take much. Then I'll check everything again in a couple of months.

An efficient and tuned to spec heat pump is a happy heat pump WOooHOoo

... now to clean some of that verdigris from the side of the house
About once a year I go around the house with a pump sprayer filled with a 50/50 mix of Clorox and water
Let it stand on the siding for about 10minutes and rinse off with a garden hose
Kills that green stuff and helps keep it from coming back. The vinyl siding loves me for it :ROFLMAO:

AH ... the joys of home ownership

With Photoshop and Calphoto, created a custom topo map today for 2 reserved backpacking trips in 4 week, I'll print out later at a FedEx Office 3 blocks away.

Went down to the KP hospital today for a monthly blood test and picked up a few months more supply of hydroxy urea pills for my blood neoplasm cancer, polycythemia vera. Expect to live to 100. Blood levels remain ok as expected. Expect my hematologist will send a message today to reduce dosage a bit.

Am now 7 days away from the huge July 17 Rolling Stones concert at Levi Stadium. I and a bro don't have seats but rather highly sought GA stadium field level tickets that is a large field level standing room (dance) zone behind all the most expensive, front of stage, chair seating. Only paid $140 including taxes/fees at the pre-sale that are now going for about $600.

Morning all, I'm up early enuff for the worms I guess....why I
can't sleep longer is a mystery, but oh well....no plans yet
too early....social supvr came by to chat yesterday, saw my mangy fox out back last eve, early, and am trying to get info
on how to medicate it for mange, he's got it pretty bad....
No idea what I'm doing today yet..but what the heck.....catch you later on........;):D:coffee::coffee::coffee:

You and me both, @hawkdon. I'm that person who wakes the roosters🐓

It's a lovely morning in the neighborhood...a mere 66F! It's still gonna be hot today, but only 90 with low humidity.

Wow. On the local morning news they're talking about the first day of school being three weeks away. Kids here are out in the spring by the third week of May, but geez! summertime goes by so fast. I noticed in Walmart the other day that the shelves are stocked with school supplies already.

The lemon-blueberry bread that I mentioned yesterday was disappointing. DD and DGD swear it's delicious, but I couldn't taste the lemon flavor at all. They said they could and that my lemon sensor must be out of whack. Could be...ever since my bout with Covid, there are some things I just can't smell or taste.

Y'all can find me in the garden this morning.

Growing up we started school after Labor Day and got out in late June. The school hours in the south are much different.
Our school clothes were fall plaid and warm. Here they are bright t-shirts and shorts.

I've never understood the reasoning down here behind getting out in May and going back in late July/early August. It's not usually too hot yet in May but bloody hot in July/August. Two months.

As a kid, we went back the day after Labor Day and got out at the end of the first week of June. Three months.

We didn't get week-long breaks in fall and spring, but we did have more time in summer to forget what we learned. LOL

Had a bad thunder and lightning storm last night. I had to shut down my computer abruptly. Poured hard and I think the lower level of the building (where the ramp is) was flooded. At least we did not get hit with a tornado which they kept predicting. This morning I see the 3 pigeons who seem to live nearby are out in the huge mud puddles in the driveway. Yesterday I felt sorry for them when they were trying to find water in that puddle which was dried up.

77 and light rain here in Central Florida. We're waiting on the movers, who were supposed to be here yesterday, to show up. Once the are loaded up and leave, we will be headed back to Ohio. (My lovely SO is going to be living with her son and DIL going forward.)
