How is your day Today, plans and achievements 2024....

Today I learnt that the world is changing. We bought our last TV perhaps 15-20 years ago, 32" for about $250 I vaguely remember. Apparently old-fashioned, non-smart TV's don't exist longer. I went to several places but nada. Finally, full of apprehension, I bought at Sam's Club a 40" smart TV for $158. Supposedly with 260 free TV channels and 6,000 free movies (true?) Setting it up at home, I was also able to plug-in our Los Angeles area 165 free antenna TV channels. Of course, for pay you can watch Netflix and a dozen others.

The control has a special button for "watch free," and you can search for channels or movies in different ways. There are "previous channels" buttons and other useful ones. My apprehension quickly turned into admiration for the new world, and all that for less than our smaller, ancient TV's. Wow, I am flabbergasted. I wish all of the new inventions were that exciting. It's like cable TV but free, although for the latest movies, I am sure, you'll have to pay. Life after all is really not that boring.

You can search by title or by numbers, like our local TV stations (ABC7 just type in "7")

Well, we know what you'll be doing lately. 😊

That was more or less our situation when we lived in Goodmayes. Ilford that was once bright and thriving, had become shabby and run down. We found travelling the opposite way to Romford much better for shopping and recreation. We still went into the West End for shows, dancing and an occasional shopping trip, but as you pointed out, public transport, (does the number 25 still run to Victoria?) congestion charge and parking costs, are all but prohibitive.
fortunately where I live is not run down far from it....and it's thriving as an ancient market town.. but they've forgotten about things to do for older people.. lots to do if you're young or have children.. but nothing for older people. They just rely on the myriad of restaurants..

My husband and I used to travel into the city for west end shows etc hen we were younger.. and also straight from work sometimes (TV studios).. but even then it was a bind..

very often on a weekend during the day we'd go to the millennium dome, or to the National gallery Southbank....or the museums, or Camden town but even tho' only 20 miles.. it's an overground train .. and 2 or 3 tubes from here ..depending on which part of the city ..and as you know the getting on huge escalators, and then long ..long corridors to walk after you get off, .. it takes it out of you.. so now I'm on my own I don't like to do it..

Instead I do all my social life.. days out etc.. the opposite direction.. it take me less than half hour to drive 30 miles.. and no congestion...

However, in the days where people are now leaving the city in their droves..it's possible I'll be moving in... and with the 2 tube stations within walking distance I will have it much easier..

Hopefully, today is the last day that the gym will be closed for remodeling. I still will be going into town though....hopefully I'll be getting my permanent crown.

I know that I won't be leaving late for my appointment because I FINALLY have a working clock in my kitchen. It's just a simple, white, 10 inch, round clock. Dio picked it out, and I love it.

Surprisingly, I have no errands to run today!!! 😮 So after the dentist, I guess we'll just get our pizza and head home.

that's not a cat that a Cougar... :ROFLMAO:
DGS calls her a spotted watermelon🍉. She's not exactly dainty, about 25 lbs, but there's lots of her to love. And she doesn't scratch the sofa🛋️. I love Maggiecat.

@hollydolly Are you going to look at the apartment again? Don't forget to measure.

Still trying to make myself go out and kill more weeds. It's kinda chilly (65) this morning so I was waiting for the sun to hit the spot where I want to work.

Our washers are 120, dryers usually 240. When I lived in a townhouse, I had a tiny 120 dryer that didn’t vent outside. I’d roll it out of the closet. Not perfect. I used a wooden drying rack part of the time.

Is there a possibility of separating part of the bathroom into another room that technically allows a plug.
I had forgotten that regular dryers that vent outside are 240. So I had to search for an apartment dryer that vents into a bucket of water and is 120. It takes much longer to dry items.

yes I am..I've just been talking to the sellers.. and they're going on holiday until mid September so I'm going to look at it again on the 14th

yep..you see this is the thing. Electricity is very expensive here so the last thing anyone wants is a dryer that takes forever to dry anything. The one I have now which is broken down.. takes about 45 minutes to dry everything.. including towels...

people who have washer dryer combos' here report the same problem with the drying taking up t 3 hours

I just feel it's a bit pointless buying a new dryer if I'm possibly going to move.. it would be better for me to wait and see how practical it is to use a laundrette which is just a couple of hundred yards away..to dry the clothes..

With wildfire conditions generally ameliorated, at least for the time being, things here are seeming more normal. My daughter is visiting out from Vancouver (which is an 8-hour drive to the west, to give some idea). Arrived yesterday, got into participating in our home routines. We went out and did a pre-breakfast blueberry pick, and will continue that and do a serious one... though we're running out of freezer space for the crop, so most of the new picks will be given to friends..

I'll be working on maintenance and repair things today. Early evening plan is to drive northward, with DW & DD, 45 minutes to visit a friend up there (she was evacuated for over 2 weeks), and then go for dinner at the hotel's restaurant.

Hollydolly, do you have an outdoor washing line? The recent warm weather has done a great job of drying our washing.
yes I have a retractable washing line which is how I've been drying the clothes for the last few weeks.. Lucky to have hot sunny weather all this time. I've always had the washing line, but I only ever used it to dry Quilts and pillows etc in the past.

There are no laundrettes anywhere near where I live.. the nearest is 2 towns away.. so if I'm still here in winter either I'll have to buy another dryer, or take the washing to 2 town away to dry...
