@hollydolly No no no! Colors were just fine. Most people with cataracts complain about cloudiness, but I never had that. The main thing that helped me is that I don't have to wear glasses to see. My vision is still a bit off, but after I'm up for a while in the morning, eyes adjust so that I can see pretty well. I do have dollar-store readers, but so far have only used them today for reading the first of my three new books.

In October I'll see the ophthalmologist again and they'll test me for specs...there's astigmatism in my right eye that will correct the bit of blurriness. Medicare pays for glasses after cataract surgery so I'll get them. They'll only be needed for close-up stuff and will be better than the cheapie readers.

Still not used to waking up in the morning and not having to reach for my specs to find my way around!

I like that chair for outdoors.

This morning started with an early blueberry pick, before there were many wasps in the patch. The next goal was to pick ripe pears from the big tree.

Unfortunately, some fruit had already fallen to the mown grass below, and each fallen pear had (I'm estimating) between eight and 25 Yellowjacket wasps feeding intensely on it. They tend to get upset when a human comes close, and since we needed to move a couple ladders around to climb up and pick, we had first to deal with the fallen fruit. So, we daubed ourselves with peppermint oil and, with a stiff broom, a rake, and a shovel, we moved the infested pears elsewhere. We had a quite productive pick.

After lunch, I harvested some corn from our modest patch. On the porch we shucked it, then brought it in and blanched all the ears in boiling water, then I parted all the kernels from the cobs, and DW put them into muffin tins. Then those went into the deepfreeze, and we'll mix corn kernels into various dishes we'll cook over the next year.

Damp and miserable here this morning. Plenty to do, but no real plans. We'll probably take some more rubbish to the recycling centre and Mrs.L wants to buy some things for making marrow chutney. We had a reasonable crop of marrows and courgettes, but some other things like the tomatoes didn't do so well.

I've just sorted out the insurance for the house and contents after the company I had been using suddenly increased the premium by 50%.
Now Mrs.L is getting 'confused.com' with sorting out her car insurance. It's not so much the price which hasn't changed much, but all the options, what's included etc.. Oh well, she's still got a couple of weeks.

Well - yesterday's planned train trip out with Likkle Grandson ended in tears. When we were trying to leave the car park in town he ran off between cars and hid. We found him but he refused to come out until I crawled under a car and dragged him out. As a result we missed our train. He was VERY upset! Lesson learned I hope. We may try again next week. In other news my new lens is arriving this afternoon so I'm nipping out for a coffee then back in time to receive it! As I usually do it'll be glued to my camera for a while to get used to it.

No weeds in my garden... well none that I'm aware of...:D

Today it's overcast. yesterdays jaunt took it out of me a little bit. A lot of driving, and quite an eclectic day.

I'll rest up today, then I have a zoom meeting tomorrow with my lawyer...

I'll get yesterday's photos of the Vintage motor museum sorted and posted at some point

have a good day folks...

Gorgeous day here…. Breezy, less humid.. ate lunch Al Fresco, enjoying the butterflies dancing ‘round the blooms of my lantana bushes…

@CinnamonSugar I love Lantana, but we can only use it as an annual up here. I once had a hanging basket of lavender Lantana. I tried to keep it in the house when frost came, but it didn't do well. I like the strange scent of the crushed leaves.
Nice pic, thanks.

A few of us were having a meaningless conversation the other day. What is the verb to describe this action. There must be one. We had no answer and quit discussing it.

I think the machine that does it is called a threshing machine, so my guess is the verb is thresh?

Hahaha. I can't think of a good one either.

Scraping (the kernels off)?
Dekernelize? :ROFLMAO:
Looked it up…. The process of removing corn kernels from cobs is called shelling.

Also, here in the south (and maybe other parts of the country) it is popular to cream corn off the cob for that tasty dish.

Cut about 1 inch or so off of the top of each ear to make a flat end. Stand an ear on its flat end on a wide plate and, with a sharp knife, cut downward through several rows. Don't cut too close to the cob; cut the kernels about 3/4 of the way through.

This ends your corny lesson for today!

Cool, sunny morning here.

Tree service dropped off some useful logs, so hubby cutting them into firewood lengths.
His helper called & told us went fell down the stairs at his apartment.
He didn't know when he would be able to work.

The dog has been walked, the cat has been fed.

I should grab up the weed whacker,, but energy level is low.( really am lazy) 🙃🙃

We've had a relatively mild summer this year with very few days in the mid-90s or above. So much for this summer's holiday from heat. Silver lining: low winds meaning wildfire danger won't be super high.

Errands are run during early mornings or not at all. Here's how day's temps typically evolve, with a 30ish degree swing between highs and lows. (I have no idea why the general forecast shows a 106° high but the hourly only goes to 104°. Not that there's much difference between 104° and 106°, if'n I have my druthers I'll take the 104.

Took a long walk yesterday and I'm a bit worn out from it today. Yesterday walked to a Macy's to buy myself a nice new watch; got a good buy, but my legs have been feeling like bricks for a few days now, like I'm dragging around on two tons, so this walk was hard. Came home exhausted, was too tired to chat with two neighbors I really like and haven't seen in awhile.

Today, after The View & The Young & Restless will just take a short walk around my local park then sit in the warm sun which will soon be gone and read my Book Club book, which I'm really taken with. It's titled Snow in August by Pete Hamill, about a Brooklyn neighborhood post WWII. Lyrical, don't want it to end, but only have 50 pages left.

finish up sausage gravy
for brkfast😈
Drat! I was going to ask if there was any sausage gravy w/biscuits left over. Day late/dollar short:(

It's overcast and cool here today. I'm settling down to a busy day's work. But first, coffee. :coffee:
Yes, of course coffee is first! Coffee is what gets my heart started.

@hollydolly Had the place where you went for lunch yesterday been a castle?

I went out at first light this morning to play in the dirt now that I've been rescued from Eyedrop Hell. It sure was fun to dig up weeds and move the portulaca and fan flowers to sunnier spots.

As soon as DD can be nailed down to what days are out of the question for me to work, I'll complete the online application for the dollar store. I sure hope the manager likes me and gives me a job. A job that's early hours.

One more wakeup and my new chair will be here!

ETA: My vote for getting the kernels off the cob is a word that's just been invented (by me): decobbing.
