How is your day Today, plans and achievements 2024....

I'm feeling very tired and draggy today. Yesterday I got a COVID booster shot and I forgot how vaccinations disturb my sleep.
Not much going on, I went for a walk and got my steps for the day accomplished (at a slow draggy rate). Then I perused my planned budget for 2025. Our HOA fee annual increase totally wiped out the anticipated Social Security COLA. I know I should change my attitude and feel happy that the monthly increase is covered, but darn it all, I wanted to have some extra $!
On the positive financial side, I'd recently learned about gifting shares of stock to avoid paying taxes on capital gains, so I had gifted my daughter some old shares of stock to pay her car insurance with (she has a low paying job in retail so she's depressingly well within the 0% tax rate range for the gains). And today I had the pleasure of removing that item (her car insurance) from my 2025 budget.

I am going to lay down and see if I can sleep a little. Just took my second pain pill and having been keeping ice on the bad side all afternoon. I am just too old for this. Having a baby and the hip replacement was easier than this. Why does everyone think because we are older we can handle pain. It is worse the older we get!!

I genuinely think you're right, pain seems worse to me also as I age.

I hope the pain eases soon you've been very brave .🤗.. last time I had a tooth out which was about 10 years ago..it took 3 days for it to settle down...

Good morning folks.. 8.10am on an overcast morning here.....

I got up at 7.30am to try and make an early start to see if I can get my hair cut or even at least trimmed this morning at a Salon over in the mall. It doesn't open until 10am.. so I'll drive over there ready for them to open the doors and hope they don't have a fully booked day and they'll trim my hair.. fingers crossed

I really want to check my oil / water and tyres in the car as well ready for the journey on Saturday ..but I need to go to yet a different town to get an air pressure machine ...madness.!

Had a lovely time at the Christmas lunch yesterday.

It was quite blowy outside when I woke up but, atm it's just another grey December morning. We are going to do some Christmas food shopping later. Roll on Boxing Day! I think I like Christmas more when it's all done and dusted; on Boxing Day you can just relax, eat chocolate and look forward to next year :)

It's morning. I know it's not raining because I stuck my head out the back door, and it didn't get wet. I know the sun isn't out because the light is dim outside. That's the current weather. Forecast, you ask? 🤷‍♀️ Using the wait-and-see method. The only thing that can be guaranteed is that there is and will be weather.

DD and I are supposed to go Walmarting this afternoon. She's at her work-away-from-home job this morning, then has to take DGD to a doc appt. If doc appt takes too long? 🤷‍♀️ Tomorrow? I just want to get it out of the way before kids are out of school for the holidays.

ETA: Hey! @hawkdon I found some biscuits and sausage gravy in my freezer and had that for supper last night. Neener neener neener :ROFLMAO:

@hollydolly Just yank something out of your freezer and call it good. ETA: Better idea. How about a Cornish game hen? Just enough for dinner and a bit left over for a sandwich later.

I've given up on what to have and when for Christmas. First it was dinner on Christmas Eve, light lunch on Christmas Day. Then meat, cheese, veggie tray on Christmas Eve, dinner at 6 on Christmas Day. Then something else at a different time on whichever day. Now it's Christmas dinner at 1 on Christmas Day, or at least it was the last I heard yesterday.

Deliver me. I'm supposed to make deviled eggs and hash brown casserole. I'll make them during the day on Christmas Eve, reheat whenever the time and day have been decided on.

Dancing to somebody else's tune without a say in the plan is a PITA. This isn't the gramma life I envisioned years ago. Not. Even. Close.

Is it spring yet? Wait. No. It isn't. We still have at least one ice storm and probably a little sNOw before spring happens.

Please may I have a do-over from my 50s?

ETA: Wait. I think it's copious amounts of breakfast foods Christmas morning, then big dinner at 6. I dunno what's happening Christmas Eve. At this point, I don't even give a rat's rear🐀 except that it seems I'm being voluntold to provide the aforementioned copious amounts of breakfast foods...
I've always longed for a set plan every year to make things easier. However, that's never going to happen around here. 🤔
Oh well, ciest la vie. 🎄

A wet and windy day here. Did what we thought would be the last bit of shopping before Christmas, but we were wrong. This morning we realised that we hadn't sent a card to a friend whose birthday is in 2 days time. We hastily located a suitable card, but no stamp.
Off to find a post office and hopefully finish our shopping. A new Aldi has opened and we thought we could get the final things on our list, but the shop was disappointing. It's only been open for a week, so it will probably take time to settle down. We prefer Lidl.
Still a few things to get, but on the bright side, Tesco was selling most vegetables for 15p.

A beautiful morning! One more sip of coffee and I will need a pilot's license.
Lowe's to get the first load of soil for two additional vegetable beds. They load but they do not unload.
The usual run through the house. I need to make two Patty Rolls wreaths. One for us and one for a neighbor.
The mattress exchange is scheduled for this afternoon!
It is Friday for SO until next year:>)
It looks like Starlings are moving into a birdbox outside the office window. Are those the ones who raised their young therre in Spring? The male has his courting colors already. This is totally off!

Well it's now racing towards 5.15pm and I've just got home about 30 minutes ago after leavin' home at 9.30am... It's been a glorious sunny day..☀️☀️☀️...but such an Icy wind... i would have been the perfect winters' day if it hadn't been for that strong freezing wind,.

The good news is, that I managed to get my Hair cut..
and get my nails done and get my tyres inflated.. so tomorrow I'll check the oil & water in the car and then it'll be ready for the 5 hour round trip..on saturday

I got to the hair salon 10 minutes beore they opened and waited and they were immediately able to cut my hair.. I was totally stunned to see how thin my hair has become on the back of my scalp

I popped into TKmaxx..( yes it's TK here not TJ) bought a marble plant stand, and a plant pot, and walked past the salon when I was leaving and saw it was packed out, so I did right thing going to the salon as soon as they opened......

I had to drive to the next town to get the supermarket to get the Christmas day meat.. I got unsmoked Gammon, that way I can make soup out of it for several days after.. ..as @Capt Lightning already said Tesco were selling their veggies for 15p .. couldn't believe it..I got a 5 pound bag of spuds for just 15p... sadly the fruit wasn't reduced in price and I bought more fruit than veggies

At the petrol forecourt I filled up the tank with fuel , and got the tyres inflated there.. there was a queue of 5 cars in front waiting for the air pump, so I had to sit a little while..

Then to the next town to get a nail salon.. again I had to wait a little while for someone to be free.. but I got the pearlescent on gel nails seeing as it's Christmas ..I was in there for an hour and a half..

from there to the coffee shop to meet my friend...

I'm feeling a lot better after having vertigo all night long. I took the day off because I could not work like this. I'm so glad I made that decision. When you need to rest, rest. I agree with all of you who say pain is worse as you get older. It feels that way to me too. Maybe I was more distracted when I was younger.

You could very well be right Chic.. in that when we're young and we have pain we don't have itme for it.. when we're older..and we're siitting around, we might notice it more... but further to that it's probably more painful on top of acute pain we might already be suffering like arthritic pain etc

Yesterday Wednesday, drove 3.5 hours to ski resort, skied ~4 hours then drove another 4 hours back home instead of possibly staying overnight and then skiing a second day today. Stopped at a couple bros residence that was productive. A younger brother apparently has now also been diagnosed with polycythemia vera, a thick blood bone neoplasm I've been taking hydroxyurea for the last 3 years. Strongly points to genetic factors and is probably what killed my beloved mother at age 86 because medical science only recently figured out how to treat it. In Mom's case it evolved into acute myeloid leukemia that would have happened to me.

Though had not skied for 9 months since last winter, skill from first run still at high level and much enjoyed the day. Will be a fun ski season. When one repeats athletic motor skills repeatedly over 4 decades, it becomes just as easy as walking. Will be repeating this fun weekly for 2 or 3 days. Only a little sore in shoulders from poling so apparently all the street dancing I've been doing the last 3 months has indeed served my fitness well, especially respiratory strength.

Felt blah after waking this Thursday morning until just mic'ing a can of Progresso Creamy Chicken Noodle soup. Have some drive to shopping to attend to in about an hour. Don't think this last afternoon before a few days of minor storms will be productive.

Finished "recarpentering" the wooden "Montessori" toys for my grandson. I've about had it with poor quality imported crap. May as well have just made my own from scratch.

Went to Aldi's to use most of the generous gift card I received. Might as well buy ahead somewhat. Got canned tomatoes and olives; pickles, flour, olive oil, coffee, some frozen veg; chicken, ground beef and salmon; oranges and grapes. Oh, and a small cheesecake sampler and 2 pkg. Roth chocolate. Killed my back.

Won't buy steak at Aldi, they're awful.

Getting cloudy and pretty chilly.

Sleep assessment: Slept 10 straight last night.
Relaxed assessment: Lay in bed watching funny birdies feeding and drinking water: uber relaxed, carefree.
Weather assessment: Gusty, green leaves still on trees; seems Santa is bringing mid 80s weather!
Weight and health assessment: Zero soreness, Celebrex keeping hands operable and painfree; 22lbs from LAST winter's hibernation! Made it through Turkey day holding the line. Left knee holding as long as I can keep the weight at what it is now.
Clothing assessment: Shorts, birks, camisole, long sleeve linen shirt over cami till noon. Then off comes the long sleeves for yard work, and change birks out for yard work shoes.

Today's to dos:
-Make (American) baking powder biscuits from scratch, one Christmas gift to DH.
-Finish shoveling and moving 6-8 five gallon buckets of small landscape stone.
-Finish chopping up a wood pallet so it will fit in recycle dumpster.
-Sweep patio, pathways, dust off patio furniture.
-Watch "Man on the Inside" starring Ted Danson on Netflix with DH early this evening.
-Some random reader on SF clearly has their panties in a twist about some of my writing. Therefore at some point I MUST take the time and effort to analyze and re-frame some writing.
