I am pretty far south in Texas. I have heard this all my life. I have always thought it a sincere word of comfort and grace in a time of need. On the other hand,, There are some southernrs that might say it as an insult if you mess up the cornbread or okra.

I only use it in the format or meaning it was intended. If you, are from the north, mess up the cornbread or okra, I would say : Come on dear, let;s go back to the kitchen and see if we can figure it out together!" If she was down here and I totally f'd up the clam chowder, I would expect her to do the same thing. I am always willing to learn new cooking methods just as sure as the yankee ladies are.

Sharing food from your part of the country is a gift, always be gracious, willing to learn and you will be the most fabulous cook anywhere,

DGD has almost redeemed herself. She cooked dinner. Sweet and sour meatballs with rice and broccoli. It was really good.

Instead of making a list to shop for groceries, she pulls up the recipe on her phone and collects the ingredients listed...it's why all the backing and forthing in the aisles.

Anyway, it was good, and I made sure to say so and thank her.

That doesn't mean I want to go Walmarting with her again.

I'm up. Maggiecat let me sleep until 6:30.

Overcast and sort of warm this morning. The sun should come out in an hour or two. The sky is sort of pink right now. If "red sky at morning" means sailor take warning, what does pink mean?

In the next couple of weeks, I'll bet it gets either bitter cold or we have an ice storm or maybe both. It's that time of the year.

My self says I need to go outside and pick up debris from Saturday night's storm if for no other reason than I need to move around some. There are also snapdragons that need to be deadheaded so they'll keep on blooming.

Maybe it would be a good idea to start by getting dressed.

It's 8 deg here... overcast.... had to reorder the grille fro my car because the sellers said the one I ordered wasn't suitable for my model...and the new grille cost twice as much...

I checked with the mechanic because he was the one who told me which to order.. and he admitted it was his mistake..

I dug up two paper grocery bags of Purple Iris yesterday. They had overgrown their space and were coming into the garden. We gave some to the neighbors then DH took some down to his physical therapist who will love to plant them along their fence line.
They came from my sister's in New Hampshire.
I still have a lot on one side of the garden but kept some on this side because you can see them better. We just have to be diligent about weed eating that space to keep them reigned in. There was also cannas that had to be taken out and lots of prickly vines.
Don't know why I can never remember to do before and after shots.

it's quite amusing to read things like this because here in the Uk and Europe...the Garden is the exact place Purple Iris and all flowers should be.. that's their home..

Somewhere where you grow veggies, is called an Allotment here, very different to the gardens which we have front and back of our house which are ornamental and for growing pretty things....off course there are peope who use a little of their garden to grow produce, but then it's reffered to as a Vegetable garden

We just call them flower gardens or vegetable gardens. There are also botanical gardens and such. I'm sure you have other garden types too.

Well it's been a busy afternoon...

I got the laundry done, and batch cooked a load of food while that was going on...at one point the kitchen looked like a Steam room.. thank goodness for opnen back doors..

While I was up to my elbows in this.. DD rang..in tears...

Youll get the impression she's always crying, but nothing could be further from the truth, but when it comes to her pets, that's her achilles heel..

Pixie has been admitted to the Animal Hospital...desperately poorly.. she still hasn't eaten anything ... so she's gone into the actual hospital rather than the veterinary surgery ... for urgent emergency care.

DWR Diagnostics Laboratory | DWR | Cambridgeshire

Its costing Dd a fortune, she has to pay out of pocket for her pets medical bills , because when DD arrived back in the UK from Spain the dogs were all too old to get afforadble pet insurance here , which she'd had in Spain , they were all nearly 12 years old.. and after 10 years the premiums are sky high... which means now when pixie who is the last one of the 3 DD had when she returned , is sick.. DD has to pay high costs..

..but she's happy to do it if it will make her dog well again,
Today she had to pay £2,500 just as a deposit .. she has no idea what the final bill will be.. but Pixie is having to stay as an inpatient until a least Wednesday or until they discover exactly what's making her so sick.. this on top of the 1,000 she's paid in the last month on Vets fees at the surgery ..but no she says the Animal specialists at the hopsital are disagreeing with the Vts diagnosis of pancreatitis, but they don't yet know what is happening..

our gardens are simply called ''gardens''..unless they're in a stately home in which there are many diferent types of gardens, so they would be called the Rose garden, or the wildflower garden etc...

Blessed, thank you for saying this. Funny thing - I lived in NY as a child - at the very time when the whole country seemed to be hating on NY. Moved to NJ in time to catch the period when NJ was the butt of a whole lotta jokes. Moved to California, and guess what? Same nonsense.

When people paint more than 39 million Californians with a broad brush, it speaks far louder about who they are than who various Californians might be.

I don't put down other states or countries. Doing so reflects one's own poor manners, and is often only envy thinly disguised as criticism.

My mother taught me long ago that every place and every culture has some natural beauty, some delicious foods and some wonderful humans. Also some stinkers.
