Yesterday I needed a 2. 5 hour nap because of cleaning and then finished in the evening and was in bed by 8:30. I slept until 6. I never can sleep this much so hopefully it doesn’t mean that I’m not totally well. I have things to get done today. The dishwasher repair guy is coming this morning and I hope he can fix it reasonably.

My rib remains very painful. I'm presuming it's a deep bruise rather than a break, but either way time is the only cure so there's no point to investigating further. Putting away Christmas decorations can wait.

Yesterday I packed up and froze nearly all the remaining Christmas cookies, and there are plenty. No worries though, they'll mostly evaporate before Easter rolls around.

A couple of business (computer) chores are on today's to-do list, plus due to my slacking off during the holidays, the dreaded paperwork pile has stacked up again.

Over the next few days I've got to hit Costco for their on-sale vitamins plus a few other goodies, and the produce store and Aldi to replenish perishables.

WE have one heckava storm here.. it's almost dark... the winds are horrendous. I've been in the garden trying to rope everything down.. but I can't remember the last time we had winds this strong in this part . since the 80's when we had the cylcone here which caused mass destruction.. and then in 2010.. I had the roof blown off my house in Spain...

I can hear emergency services sirens going off all over the place in the distance...

Not much to show for it yet but I've begun putting a few hours a day into the garden in anticipation of hosting a visit by the North American Rock Garden Society on March 11. I'm surprised they'd want to come here when I have very little in the way of a rock garden except for these two beds I put in a year ago.

DON'T go outside! Warning as 94mph Storm Henk brings New Year chaos - with passengers stranded on trains and urged 'not to travel', roofs and scaffolding blown away, parks shut and 'very wild' conditions until 9PM

Londoners were urged to stay indoors today as Storm Henk hit Britain with 94mph gusts and two inches of rain after the Met Office issued an urgent amber warning.

The storm, which was dramatically named by meteorologists just one hour before it hit at 10am this morning, will bring 'very wild outdoor conditions' until 8pm today. Mayor Sadiq Khan has warned of a 'potential risk to life and property' in London.

Amid mass disruption to public transport, Southern Rail told passengers 'do not travel unless absolutely necessary' due to 'multiple weather related incidents'. South Western Railway also said 'do not travel' and that passengers were 'authorised to book their own taxi to travel anywhere' across its network before claiming a refund.

The London Fire Brigade told people in the capital to 'stay indoors where possible, but if you need to travel take extra care as strong winds can pick up flying debris'.

Forecasters warned flying debris was 'likely and could lead to injuries or danger to life' amid possible 'damage to buildings such as tiles blown from roofs'. They also urged people to 'take care if you are travelling and avoid coasts where possible'.

Henk, which is the eighth storm to be named in just over three months, began to hit South West England and South Wales this morning. Parts of southern England, the south Midlands and East Anglia were then struck from this afternoon.

...and now it's pitch dark the rain has stopped but the wind is verrry strong.. and missiles are flying down the road...

After spending Christmas at home, one of my daughters is heading back for work near Hong Kong on a 15:55 hour non-stop flight. UA801 (UAL801) United Flight Tracking and History - FlightAware She just checked-in at LAX and is waiting for boarding. [OK, at 6:30 a.m. our time on Wednesday, she was back at her place.] She will be back in summer. PS, when we visited her, the flight took us over Alaska and Russia. Maybe US airlines now avoid Russia because of the tensions?

Just yesterday she made my wife's chicken coop much larger for the two chickens to have more freedom. Because of hawks and coyotes, we cannot let them run around in the open. And just yesterday, the two of us were still hiking with the dogs. Now it's all memory.

PS, my present dogs were all adult strays I adopted from public shelters and a private Boxer rescue organization. As a senior, I cannot handle puppies anymore. My grandson has a one-year old Beagle puppy that causes enough chaos when visiting us.

Oh no! Be careful HD! 🌹

Yesterday Monday 1/1/2024 twice went outdoors into sunny near 70F degree weather here about San Jose, urban street walking a couple miles. Then in the evening with temp 49F bundled up in 3 layers for both top and bottoms with my new expensive goose down mid layers, plus balaclava head gear and went back out again for a couple miles. Compression polyester Spandex thin inner top/bottom layers, down puffers mid, and soft shell coat top with wind shell bottom. New windproof puffer jacket top is quite warm.

Saturday, accidentally spilled a cup of milk onto a rug and quickly soaked most up with a large towel I stuck into a closed room. Towel after a day had usual bacteria smell so this morning put the towel into my bathtub with detergent to rinse much of that out. And now that and all the rest of my cotton laundry is in our units $1.50 washing machine. Will add a synthetic laundry load in a few minutes. Already cloudy with a modest storm arriving late afternoon.

We're not expecting rain in the Eastbay until around 3 but we're not in for anything like what HD is going through. Last year there were days almost like that but no 90+ mph winds that I recall.

It's almost 9pm the wind has died down a lot now.. It's pitch dark so I haven't gone out to survey any damage outside. I kinda don't want to know yet if there is, because then I won't sleep tonight for the worry over it.. so I'll just keep my fingers crossed, hope for the best and view it all in the morning...

In the meantime there's been reports of 2 deaths...

What a mess! Hope your yard is ok, HD

Long weekend/holiday working. Got back home and slept. (I sound like a broken record). The day after work is pretty much a write-off by the time I drive home. Takes me at least a day to get re-acclimated.

Things to accomplish this week: talk with another mechanic about my transmission and how to get it fixed without breaking the bank
Cook more soup
Get a pedicure (it's not a pleasant outing for me... too ticklish!-- but it must be done)
Schedule a massage
Etc etc etc
