What an unexpected, happy surprise! My son called me late morning and said he/dil/grandson want to come over and spend the day with me! My son said he didn't want me to be alone today, but I feel he also wanted to be with me today even more.

So, they came, we took a train to Coney Island, went to Luna Park, which has rides & amusements. We ate hot dogs & french fries at Nathan's. In over 70 years of going to Nathan's I have never seen such a huge crowd! Had to wait almost forever for the food. DIL watching workers, said there were enough of them, but they not exactly competent. It floored me to see so many at Nathan's.

What a different day this turned out to be. I love to make my grandson laugh.

How and why does one process loads of lettuce?
Starsong asked about the lettuce too. What do you do to it and with it?
First, we picked a big batch. DH pulls leaves off from the bottom. There was Black Simpson and Red lettuce. Also some Rocket Salad (Arugula). I wash it in batches and run them through the salad spinner to dry.
I line big rectangular Tupperware containers with paper towels and do a couple of layers with paper towels in between and on top and store them in the frig. It lasts a long time this way.
I am learning to do some single size containers that I pre-tear up for easy salads this week.
We eat a lot of salads in the summer and use it for sandwiches, etc. We give some away if we get overrun.
I just bought a big (19.5" across) colander at the Asian store. It was good for containing all of it but I should have bought the bowl too for when I want to wash dirty batches of things outside first. Sometimes cabbage or things have bugs, dirt, or dead leaves etc. that make a mess inside.
We also use it for Beans and Greens soup, Wilted salad, and Korean salad. Both of those use up a lot if we need to.

I have mostly just been trying to relax myself today, after a couple of difficult weeks with medical appointments.

Did small bits of helping with a small laundry, and foods, and cat care, and advising dh.

Spoke to a neighbor thru my window, which is very unusual, but i wanted to ask if she is alright, and the chat was nice for both of us. And unexpected by either of us.

Am trying a new med, this week, at a teensy starting dose level. I don't know yet, if I will tolerate it, or if it will help me.
I sure need something. No horrid reaction, so far. 👍

Garden work never stops. But while I used to work from morning to night, nowadays I am exhausted after a few hours, and the garden doesn't look as neat anymore as it used to be. I already mentioned that I gifted my kids three of the four parcels, but even the remaining one parcel is almost getting too much work for me. Well, I am trying my best as long as I can.

Some weeds are treated with Roundup while larger ones are better cut with a weed eater.

The creekbed has to be cleared of debris, and the automatic water drip system for my wife's flowers has to be checked.

Well, after a break, I did a little bit more work.

Laundry day using my mini machines. I also made a sugar free chocolate "mousse" pudding pie, which I keep in the freezer. It kind of quells my desire for ice cream. I decided to just mix the ingredients in a bowl this time instead of using the Magic Bullet. I think it worked out better. I also loaded and ran the dishwasher, finished watching Argyle and started watching Life of Pi.

I will admit it has been a long boring day. I did eat but made nothing special. Normally, this day would be spent with the inlaws, many family and friends, a big cook out and spend time swimming and playing in the pool.

My husband's Dad and his brother served. MIL had four brothers, they all served. My Dad and Uncle served. We really appreciated them for giving time to protect our country. There was a great deal of courage in all of them to step up and keep their families safe. I take my hat off to the young men and women who serve our country, pray they are safe and will return to their homes with pride and joy. They are making the ultimate sacrifice for others they have never met or will meet. If you see them out and about, shake their hand, give them a hug, thank them for their service.

After a miserable day yesterday, the weather has improved and I may get back to gardening this morning, but rain s forecast for late afternoon.
If not gardening, it's clearing out the utility room. We have accumulated a vast amount of glass jars - more than we will need for any of the jam or preserves that we will make in a season. We might make some rhubarb and ginger jam this week and this will use 8 or 9 jars, but we've still got dozens left over - so maybe a trip to the bottle bank.

Well I sure didn't plan to get up at 4am.......dang it....had a
ruff sleep nite..once woke as I was sitting up to throw a punch
at the bad guy who was in the bedroom LOL....woweee...crazy...
Usual aches and some new pains but oh well....got a bit more
laundry for today.....later......:coffee::giggle:

I have to clean out saved jars occasionally. Seems hard to throw out a good jar.

Mondays - what was that song by the Mamas and Papas - great group once heh? Sad ending for the big lady in London I believe? oh the price of fame? Sitting on the front porch is my favourite hobby - twice a day morn and early evening with the mozzi coils burning and the dog laying in the sand standing guard and the family of wood pigeons dropping in for a drink or two! I go over life events - keeps alzheimers away I think - wonderful long term memory - short term I keep losing?? does anyone have any memory tricks perhaps?

Good rainy morning in Georgia! Sorry for your bad night's sleep @hawkdon and @Pappy. Being as innocent;) as I am, I slept like a log and didn't stir until 6:30.

Gardening plans are on hold until late this morning because we're getting some serious rainstorms between now and about 11ish. Meanwhile, I'm gonna fiddlefart around in The Hovel.

Today, the staples are being removed from my wife’s knee replacement. I don’t think she is looking forward to it.

Crappy nights sleep last night. Toss and turn and never did find that comfort zone. Need to pick up a few things at the store today. Hate to leave wife alone but I think she’ll be okay for an hour.
I wonder if there's some kind of moon effect when it comes to having a rotten nights' sleep..I had a terrible one last night too, Pappy & Hawkie.... really bad... and I woke up with a really painful back, caused probably by using the high hedge trimmer yesterday.. and not helped by all the tossing and turning during the night...

Take your time once you get moved in, don't rush, don't stress about anything, and accept any help that's offered.

Hopefully you'll get back on line by Thursday but if not don't worry, we'll know where you are and we won't worry...wishing you a a seamless move...

I'm excited for you! Have a great move!

I'm getting mad at Curry's - a supplier of white goods and appliances in the UK. I want to buy a steam cleaner, and a vacuum. I spent a long while comparing and contrasting, blah blah blah. Chose what I wanted and went to check out - they can't deliver until June 3rd. June 3rd?!?!?

Good morning and happy Memorial Day to those who are in the US. And a good Bank Holiday to everyone in England!

All is well, over here. The storms are gone and we will be having hot & sunny days, again!

I'm glad to say that there was very little to clean up. Just a few branches and sticks....no trees down!

Lots of work ahead for you, but exciting times, too! Good luck in your new home!

It's good to see you, Kaila. You're missed when you're not here.
Hope your new meds do the trick.

Like several others here, I was up before 6.

I was one of those people who always slept like the dead, but that's far in my past now. One of the terrible ironies of age that many of us suffer: now that our schedules permit us to sleep late our bodies refuse to cooperate. So frustrating.
