Good morning. Adjusting my attitude and then off to work. At 4am it won't be easy to find somebody to bring our pallet up from the freezer, but I'm gonna find a way.

We'll be pushing 100 today, and the weathernerds are carrying on like it's the end of the world. It's been 100 before for days on end. It's hot, but what's the big deal this time?

@hollydolly I'm thinking positive thoughts for you because it's all I can think of to do 🤗 🤗

I woke up around 6:15am, as I opened my blinds in my living room, still amazes me just how bright it is in here. It took me a couple days after I moved in to adjust to having morning sunlight. I also had to adjust having A/C{I never had in my old apt} which I can control in my apt along with the heat
At noon, I've invited my close friends, Marcia&Dave here for lunch, Dave hasn't seen my apt yet. Marcia has been here a few times. Two yrs ago she helped move our church friend, Bill here{his apt is around the corner from mine} This will be the highlight of my day

Morning alll folks.....75F here and just starting to rain, off and on rain for today it seems....hands are painful but time to stop griping about it and just get on....social supvr came by to
visit and explain meals on wheels, it seems one program brings
fresh dinners 5 days a week, another program brings 10 frozen
dinners 2 times a month, but they are out of funding already this year...may call one monday...sorry hands can't take this...later...

Are they bringing "your" dog along?🐕‍🦺

Almost 8am PDT here now as I'm about to get ready for a 55 mile drive up to The City (SF) for day of exhilarting fun after 5 very productive days at quietly home mostly working on my computer. First up starting late this morning is some kind of DJ House band outdoor yoga and music event at the Chase Center that is the new fancy arena and entertainment complex where the Golden State Warriors play. That new upscale section of the city near the east shore waterfront is also home to high end nursing schools and medical buildings where there is an abundance of lively young women employed and living in numbers of new residential towers.

Then late afternoon about the SF north shore tourist areas a top quality Rolling Stones tribute band will play a 2 hour concert I've enjoyed before.

Edit: Well those early plans were short lived. Won't go to the Chase Center event because there is a much better larger 2-day weekend street festival happening, The 70th Anniversary North Beach Festival that had previously not posted their music lineup or schedule that I managed to just find on another link for that is much more interesting. And from there later in the afternoon, it is an easy 8 block walk to that Rolling Stones tribute band outdoor venue. So yeah...Am About to ROCK

Yup. It's hot. The weathernerds didn't lie. 10:30 and 88. As soon as I got home, I went out and watered everything. It's too hot to stay out any longer to weed or deadhead. Maybe tomorrow.

We have hydrangeas, too, and they get pretty darned "wilty" by about mid-afternoon. The sunpatiens...they love the sun, but even they have their limits. They get wilty about the same time as the hydrangeas, no matter how much water they've had.

When I got to work this morning, I did find one of the guys who's "licensed" to drive the electric fork lift, and he brought the pallet to the bakery. All the things I needed were on the bottom, of course:rolleyes:, and it was stacked so high that I had to get a step ladder to get boxes down. They were pretty heavy so I just knocked them to the floor and figured I'd worry about it later:D

Got all my stuff and all the boxes of cookies off the pallet and put them away, then just as I started to put the other stuff back on the pallet, along came another one of the "licensed" guys and his partner in crime, and they loaded about fifty boxes back on the pallet for me! Yay! Then he hauled it all back to the freezer. Yanno, he didn't have to do that. Today's his last day before transferring to another store closer to where he lives. I work with nice people.

Sir is gonna be surprised to see all the yeast breads and cookies actually labeled and on the shelves. He probably won't be happy to see all the stuff he needs on the pallet and in the freezer, but there's just so much I can do, mostly because I had no idea what he already has in our little freezer and what he needs. Oh, well. I should probably call him and explain. Maybe.

Did you remember to take photos in case the topic of “what a tiny, senior shouldn’t be expected to do.“ or the topic of “whoever was here the day before didn’t do their job.”

My older daughter, who has been teaching in mainland China for over ten years, is coming home next weekend for her 6-week summer vacation.

My older daughter, my wife, and I are members of the California State Teachers' Retirement System with over a million active and retired teachers. Per STRS Spring 2024 newsletter:

Of 234,479 retired members, 431 are over 100 years old of whom 357 are females and 74 males. The oldest being 108 years.

The average active member age is 45.1 years with an average annual salary of $90,481.

Of the 10,369 members who retired in 2023, the average annual final compensation was $105,672 at an average age of 62.9 years and an average 24.6 years of service.

The average retirement benefit was $61, 692 although I know of retired teachers who are getting more than twice that much. The basic retirement formula is the average of the last 3 years' income times twice the years you were teaching. STRS retirement income increases automatically 2% a year, and COLA will automatically increase benefits to stay at 85% of the initial retirement benefit.

The salaries of all active and retired public employees in California are available at Transparent California

If I remember right, California and New York are the most expensive states to live after Hawaii.

Happiness is walking with my pups at sunrise and sunset when the air is full of wonders. Now that the "June gloom" ocean fog is gone where I live, the daytime temperatures are getting close to 100 in the shade; but SoCal has a desert climate with low humidity, and you don't really feel the heat that much. (I still remember humid New York City in 1965 where, without air conditioning, I felt like lying in the bathtub all day long.)

Happiness is having 3 pups who give you their unconditional love and loyalty 24/7. Just one of thousand stories: this morning I walked near our supermarket. A perhaps 7-year old girl wanted to pet my pups, and I let her pet one. When I told the girl that all my pups are strays that I adopted, then the girl gave me a chewing gum. But when she came too close to my 95-pound big guy (below right) then he snapped at her (Ross has the self-appointed duty to protect me from all imagined evils.) Thereupon Otto (left bottom) attacked Ross to tell him to behave himself (and that was certainly not the first time.) Well, I could write a book about the behavior of my pups. I dearly love them all.

By 3 p.m., I bet, it will be 100 degrees outside in the shade ... Under the double carport it's 94 degrees
with 32% humidity. Because of super house insulation, the air condition probably won't kick on till late
in the afternoon, maybe by 4 or 5 pm.
IMGP4069.JPGIMGP4070.JPG
The temperature peaked today at 98.4 degrees at our place. Three years ago, it topped 119.8 degrees.
Humidity in summer is usually below 20% and often below 10% The nights are cool.

Him: Yes Ma’am. I am.
Me: Is there any reason you don’t sit on the benches in the courtyard? Seems like they’d be more comfortable. (There are picnic type tables with benches out there).
Him: I should have thought of that. Again, I apologize.
Me (smiling): I accept you apology. Have a nice weekend.
Him (smiling) You do the same.
Nicely handled! I'm very impressed that he said "Ma'am." I didn't think any young people were that polite these days. Nice to hear.

I will be at my desk working all day today. I went shopping and out to dinner yesterday with my older daughter, who is pregnant for the first time, with twins, and is here for a surprise visit. I dropped nearly $400 on baby items for her and barely scratched the surface of what they will need. 😄 Now I need to work, work, work.

Provision shopping this morning, back home for lunch before going to The Range, to damage our wealth yet more.
Back home now, preparing pizza and salad for our meal then it's into the bathroom to shower and get changed. Off out tonight, we are going to a dance, although we can't dance much due to my lady's health. But we shall still enjoy meeting up with good friends.

Our entertainment this evening is courtesy of The Boogie Bumpers.

I haven't been posting much of late. My daughter went through an exhausting two months of tests to diagnose several lumps in her breasts that were initially thought to be cancerous. She underwent surgery last week (lumpectomies) and is now recovering. The masses that were removed were benign (so many thanks to God) but she is considering a double mastectomy with reconstruction because the doctors feel that this will be a recurring issue in her breasts. It's not a decision she needs to make for a while so she is taking the time now to heal and then will celebrate by taking a wonderful two week vacation with her husband and children.

I was just thinking about you yesterday Sis....wondered where you were... I'm sorry you as a family have been going through such trauma... :( but thank Goodness that your worst fears were not realised with regard to your daughter . She's more than entitled to take a couple weeks away to recoup and recover...and you can sit back down with a sigh of relief knowing she's gonna be well... 🤗

I have looked into everything that I can find.. and will continue to do that....

I have watched so many Youtube videos as well from Divorce lawyers and Mediation people.. and they make it all sound, easy enough but they never take into consideration the situation I'm in now...

..but yes I will still be getting as much info as I can .thank you
Oh, @hollydolly , could you have ever imagined life would turn out like this? The shock of his behavior must cut like a thousand knives and yet he apparently feels justified in his actions. My ex-husband hid assets from me but I was never able to find them. The money was in off-shore accounts and although I considered hiring a forensic accountant to try to find the money, I didn't go ahead with it. It was going to be too costly for me.

At what point did your husband become intolerable of his life with you? Let me guess...when the twenty-something gold digger first set his thoughts to a different life. (Yes, I've been there, too). You will be long past any emotion for him when the news will come through that she has dumped him for someone else (it will happen, it's just a matter of time). I know this isn't any solace especially given the challenges you're facing now but it is a message of certainty that you will prevail. Your life will have more quality, fewer regrets, greater peace and deeper joy than he will ever know. You have untapped reserves of strength that will marshal you through this.

You got it Sis... right on the money...

Add to @Leann's post @hollydolly that he's probably going to die a lonely and bitter old man... Oh, well.

ETA: I say that because it's going to come to him that he had no life partner, just a series of superficial relationships based on his power and his pocketbook. Oh, well.
I have never said anything bad about him or wished anything bad on him... but I have to admit.. I hope you're right GiGi..I really do.. it's the least he deserves...

I really wish I could tell you all the whole sorry story of him... but not possible.. but just realise that what I've written here about him.. is just the tip of an iceberg.. and I should have read the signs long , long ago...

I love the last one with the fireplace. I imagine it would be a good place to spend a cold evening.

A friend had an old house that had a sort of keeping room with a fireplace next to her kitchen It was open to the kitchen and just the coziest spot you can imagine.

If I could build a house with all the favorite details I've seen in other houses, it would be such monstrosity that I probably couldn't even get a building permit for it! Corner windows, turrets, window seats, screened porches off the bedrooms..and a fireplace in the kitchen. The kitchen and bedrooms would face east for morning sun, but the fireplace area would face south for all day sun.
