On my early walk at 6:40,temp was already 75 a bit humid as I walked twice a around the complex
The forecast calls for some rain by mid morning,so far the local 'weather'experts' have been wrong when the rain arrives,I'll believe it when I see it
I've invited to lunch today, our former senior pastor,Tom&his wife Carol, look forward to seeing them. Tom retired from our church in 2022 after serving for 23 yrs. We've had a friendship from day one, over the yrs I was invited to their house for meals other family get togethers, attended their eldest son, Ian's wedding in 2010,stayed in touch This will be the highlight of my day
an update, Tom&Carol never showed up and I was po'd. After lunch I emailed him saying did you & Carol forget about our lunch date.? He called& profusely apologized he was somewhere else this afternoon, will try again next wk
I'm not surprised this happen knowing them as I do, they probably forgot to write it down in their calendars

@hollydolly I live in Texas and could not handle that temp, I would be off to the nearest hotel with AC. I can make do in the daytime hours but I can't sleep in the night. It has been cool here the last couple of weeks, high 80s, low 90s so very comfortable for anything under a 100. Seems to me it is cooler to be outside under a large green tree than inside. Do you feel that in the UK?

yes , the nights are terrible for me..I feel like I'm sleeping in a swimming pool... it's so hot.. I have to change my sheets every morning.

I wouldn't pay for a hotel , simply because it would actually be cheaper for me to turn on the big oscillating floor fan which I have here already...it's just that I simply cannot afford to run them because our electricity prices are so high. , which is why I make do with this little 10 watt 10 inch fan which runs off a USB lead..

We had some chilly nights last week. When it dropped to 65 F or below with low humidity I ran an exhaust fan all night, pulling air into the basement at one end and pushing it out the other. Cooled it down and kept the moisture low.

Now I can run the central A/C for a while or even just run the fan on the system to cool the ducts and thus the upstairs. Even after several days in the mid-80s it is still 66 F down there and 73 or so up here hardly running the A/C at all.

I don't have AC here , neither does the vast Majority of British homes

When I was younger and we didn’t have AC I would wet my pj top and go to bed. You have to put a piece of plastic between the sheet and mattress. I can’t imagine being this age without it. My DIL’s parents in Poland don’t have it either. They still have coal heat which really surprised me.

DEXA Bone Density Test today

For at least ten years, I have been told that I have osteoporosis in my backbone. On my last doctor's visit, I asked whether it is safe for me to buy and carry 48 pound bags of dog food without causing damage to myself. Before answering my question, the doctor ordered a bone density test which I had an hour ago. I was given a handout about osteoporosis and the test that I will gladly share if someone is interested. As usual, I expect to obtain an email in due time asking me to check my Kaiser account where I will find the results of today's test.

BTW, I have been with Kaiser since 1970. In those days, Kaiser was heaven. I had a dozen surgeries, and their specialists are top notch; I only have praise for them. But I do develop nowadays concerns about their Primary Care Physicians (PCP) because they start penny-pinching. Luckily, Kaiser permits a second opinion with a different MD which helps, and it is easy to switch to another physician.

After I retired, I had Medicare for ten years to see what non-Kaiser Medicare providers do, while at the same time continuing with Kaiser through my wife's employer (double health coverage that was expensive.) So, the non-Kaiser PCP urged me to have a prostate biopsy based on my increasing PSA curve, at that time 4.2. But my Kaiser PCP wanted to order a biopsy only after my PSA would have reached, I think, 6.4.

The non-Kaiser facility went ahead with a biopsy and, on basis of that result, Kaiser then removed my prostate within two weeks with the robotic Da Vinci method. Yes, once there is a clear problem, then Kaiser swings decisively into action. The Kaiser surgeon told me afterwards that my cancer had grown to within one millimeter to my bladder. If I had waited, as recommended by my Kaiser PCP, the cancer would have spread with dire consequences.

Conclusion, after experimenting with three non-Kaiser Medicare healthcare providers, I stayed with Kaiser. Primarily because of easy access to PCP's and a basically well-run healthcare system. At non-Kaiser health facilities, I had to wait for weeks to see a PCP, and their urgent care facilities were almost hopeless. That has been my experience.

I don't have any idea who has a basement (cellar) and who doesn't. But here's something we do, similar to one of dilettante's methods. Possibly someone else has already described something like this.

We have a 20" fan of this type. Considering how useful & reliable it is, it was inexpensive (under $120).. We run an extension cord to the bottom of our basement stairs and plug the fan in. We adjust the angle of the fan to match the incline of the stairs. We turn the fan on during the overly warm indoor temperatures. That blows cool air up, from a basement that even in summer remains coolish (around 60F or slightly lower). The fan switch has three positions, and if the house is not threatening to get too warm we use setting #2, if it might get hotter we use setting #3.

It's surprising how much of a positive influence this fan is in our house.

I actually have a fan very similar to that but even more Industrial.. I think it's really intended for construction sites drying out wet plaster in newly built homes etc.. but it's SO Loud and so powerful.. I really can't hear anything when it''s on.. and it's expensive to run.

I don't have a basement, but that's a good tip for those who do...

Funnily enough just today I was thinking of putting that Fan up for sale...

These are the ones I have as regular fans.. One upstairs and one down, but I rarely put them on due to the cost.

it's now 2.45 am the temps are climbing in here... it's now 89 degrees in my bedroom.. so I'm gonna bite the bullet and put the tower fan on for the rest of the night... it's just too hot to try and sleep otherwise..

I read above a thread about current weather conditions. Below I am showing *our* today's outside and indoor *highs* on the left, as well as on the right side the same at 5 p.m. Sometimes, the difference between outside and the air-conditioned inside can easily be 20 degrees or more. Also, we have a desert climate, meaning the temperature usually cools down quickly at night. This morning it was 61 degrees outside. Keeping all windows open at night will cool down the inside of the house, and then the air-condition won't switch on till later in the day.

Surprisingly, the outside humidity dropped from 66% to 17% within a few hours, probably due to ocean influence during the night and then daytime winds blowing in dry air from the inland deserts.

Left: I also inserted a three-foot fan in the ceiling that draws in cool air from the outside, through open windows, and then blows it out into the attic. If there is sufficient difference in temperature, the fan will cool down the house fairly quickly.
Right: I am calling the time that I am spending with my pups "quality time." Ross on the right is getting old, and his days are numbered. While I and the other pups are walking 2 hours a day, Ross makes it nowadays only 1/2 hour, or at best 1 hour a day.

Today was checkout day so I did what was necessary to leave the room in good order and finished packing. I had a long wait in the lounge but at least good music was playing. I Shazam-ed a couple of the songs. To help pass the time, I made calls I'd put off, did stuff online and played games

Check out was 11 but I had 4 hours down time because my grandaughter had to change our lunch date from 2 to 3:30. I took an Uber to the Tropicana (Trop) and we got sandwiches from A’Dam Good Deli in Trop’s Marketplace. After our nice lunch, she walked me to Trop’s bus center.

The bus was supposed to pick up at that location at 5:30 but was very late, which screwed up my son’s plans to pick me up and still get tobed on time.. Blessedly my Honorary Daughter volunteered to pick me up. I plan to call and complain about the driver tomorrow for a few reasons. Deja met me at the door. 😃😺

I know if sounds silly but I can remember my Mom putting our PJs in the bathroom sink, wringing them out and putting us to bed in damp PJs., we had windows open and little fans bringing the cooler night air. I remember being comfortable then. Of course as we got older my sister and I were having a fit. First came the window unit AC, it did not seem to be enough for teenage girls. So central air and heat was added to the house while my sister and I were in Maryland visiting our grandparents.

Our Mom was thrilled, she actually did not know how hot it was in the house. At that point we knew we could talk to Mom about upgrades to the house and she would listen.

when I was a kid there was hardly any traffic where we lived even tho' it was on a bus route in the City...so we could sleep with windows open...windows that were only single glazed..

Now 60 years later.. I live semi rurally.. and yet the traffic is so constant here that I couldn't sleep with windows open at all..... and not going to sleep in wet PJ's lol...
