Yesterday morning it was a cool 66; this morning it's even better at 64!

@hollydolly That movie. Sigh. When I visit you, we absolutely have to go there. Don't forget that we'll need reservations for tea.
Oh ye, we will definitely go when you get here...(y):D

I have just got back from driving for 3 hours almost non-stop around London, in 92 deg heat... and no AC in my car.. and the Traffic was Horrendous !!..I'm too hot to type any more.🥵🥵. back later..

In the bottom photo, you’re drying out the blankets. I was afraid your washer was unusable because of the flood.
I'm letting the sun and warm air do the work, although I feel sorry for the neighbors across the street (the ones that took an hour for a pump-out). Yesterday there was what looked like a washer or dryer out in their driveway, so perhaps the storm damaged that, too. I haven't tried my appliances since the deluge.

I fiddled around in the garden, then DD and I went to Wallyworld to get ingredients for tonight's supper. It's a casserole recipe from FB that a niece made and pronounced delicious. Just took it out of the oven and it looks okay...the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so if DSIL eats it and gets seconds, it'll be fine. Niece's "delicious" gauge is whether or not her kids eat it. I made it early so that he can either eat before he goes to work or take it with him.

How come the dishes don't clean themselves up? I've got a sink full of dirty dishes wanting to be washed.

Now waiting for DD's lawn dude to finish so that I can finally finish spreading the Bermuda seed. So glad it's not hot today, at least not hot compared to what we've been having. It's "only" 90 with low humidity so still only feels like 90.

@Georgiagranny "How come the dishes don't clean themselves up? I've got a sink full of dirty dishes wanting to be washed."

GG, get a dishwashing machine. But I admit we don't use ours much because you usually have to pre-wash by hand,
and then you might do quickly the whole wash in one go as well.

I just came back from shopping in our small plaza: dropping off letters in the USPS mailbox; paying credit card bills at
the bank; at Dollar Tree I bought some plates that I can use for leaving the actual rat trap surrounded by water
so ants won't eat the bait; at our supermarket I bought a gallon of milk and two slices of bacon as bait for the rat trap;
and finally I bought some coffee at Starbucks. Their prices are outrageous, but my wife gets always some Starbucks
gift cards we don't want to go to waste.

Left: tonight I'll find out whether the mice & rat traps surrounded by some water will discourage ants but trap the vermin.
Right: the green bait behind the window of the dog-proof rat trap is untouched. But what else can it be that I saw quickly?
Is a dangerous Black Widow Spider guarding the entrance and discouraging rats from getting into the trap? I have to check.

"Greens" are super healthy but time-consuming to prepare. So, I buy them ready to eat in cans. Yams have also a
great reputation. My wife cooks them sometimes, but I buy the canned ones for snacking.

Left: It happens only once in the blue moon, but today my wife and I met each other on our driveway. Ladies come
first, so I backed up my car all the way to give her the right-of-way.
Right: What kind of bird would catch a crayfish and leave it half-eaten on the railing? Below in the shallow water
channel, birds come and drink water all day long.

Well... it's 9.40pm and it's 88 deg in my office room...

Normally I would steer clear of anywhere, where there might be crowds during school holidays.. but today it was set to be over 90 degrees, and I thought I would go to the Lido in West London... I knew there was 2 huge car parks there...and people are away on holidays .. so I thought it would be quite quiet.. Boy, was I wrong.. I;d forgotten about the WFH brigade.. who are in their millions in this country.. terrible really.. but it means that places that would traditionally be quiet on a mid-week day.. aren't because the WFH brigade are out working from the beach.. the pool... the shops.. the restaurants etc...

The 2 car parks were jammed solid.. so I couldn't park at all.. my car has no AC despite having it re-gassed twice... so It was like an oven in my car. I had the windows open of course, but there was loads of traffic hold-ups.. mega traffic everywhere, so i put the sat-nav on to try and guide me out of London another way.. but the drawback was that I couldn't hear it with the windows open..so I had to close them. I honestly thought I might Spontaneously Combust... 🥵

I drove over to a pub that I;ve been to before close to the Lido.. but it was closed on Mondays.. the guy there says '' go to our sister pub tell them Mohammed sent you and you'll get a discount''.. I thanked
IMG-5718.jpg
him but I didn't bother..because it was the opposite direction to going back home.

Anyway I finally stopped at a London suburb to get a cold drink.. I'd taken an iced bottle of water with me, but by now it was done..

I got the coke and a 1/2 of a watermelon had a little wander and looked in their local shops... then got back in the car to come home.

This Suburb ( Ruislip and Ickenham) it;s 28 ,miles from here and the traffic was so bad, that it took 2 hours to get home... in the HOT car.... 3 hours total sitting in the car... .god alone knows what the traffic is like on school days...

@Trila If even a stopped clock is right twice a day, then your "clock" is right all day long. I think.

I tasted the casserole. It's okay but would be improved with the addition of green chilies.

More Bermuda seed spread.

My hair still hasn't been blued.

Brief Encounter is still on my mind. At the end I felt both relief and sadness.

Woke up to a lot of smoke this morning, but rain came for 15 minutes or so and washed some of it away. Breathing a little smoke for a half hour, I picked blue berries from bushes damp & heavy with the recent moisture.

Moved some more things to our storage unit, but also learned evacuation orders for two villages have been downgraded to evacuation alert. And one important section of highway north of us has been reopened. Of course, this is welcome news!

At the same time, a thunder storm has been forecast before evening, which could bring more lightning strikes to our area's forests. So I suppose our eight trips to the storage unit, well away from the most vulnerable forest areas, has been a prudent move. We'll see what we shall see. But right now I'm hopeful and optimistic.

I still have a landline, as well as my iphone.. as do many people our ages....

However the major landline provider here BT wanted to remove all the landlines from homes in the country this year, but there was a Hue and Cry from people who don't have any technology and or don't know how to use it , so they've delayed it now for 2 years... but it's still going to be the same situation

I won't like having no landline because I use it actually more often that I do my mobile, simply because it doesn't drop signal.. and if I have to make a call to an important number it's imperative that the signal doesn't drop out.

Having said that I take my iphone with me whenever I go out..no just to be able to be contacted , but in fact in case i ever break down..because nowadays we don't even have public phones any more..
I think it is a very, very bad idea to discontinue phone lines. If I am correct our cell phones depend on satellites and I am quite sure China is considering ways to take out those satellites. It only makes military sense. Imagine our banking and everything else dependent on high tech going out and not even having our landlines. That is just stupid.

The Age of Empires game taught me the importance of having low-tech defenses. This is even more important if the empire has an economic problem and is under attack but can not afford the high equipment.

In Oregon in the US, we have gotten smoke from Canada and we don't need it because we have our own fires set off by lightning. The Willamette Valley where I am hasn't been threatened but east of us people have been on different levels of evacuation alert. Amazingly, towns have been saved. I hope we don't lose any, but I am quite sure the timber industry has taken a big hit and our wild life---- that is really sad. Who hasn't seen Bambi?

Agreed, none of us humans appreciate smoke... and winds can blow it in any direction, south, north, east, west (and points in between). I sympathize with our neighbors down across the border.

I think the aim of firefighters is always, if at all possible, to keep wildfire from damaging residential areas... manufacturing, and business areas, too.

I have a relative who lives down in northern California. Ten years ago, there was a wildfire ( through grass & trees, in that case.. and later homes provided fuel). The power in his area was out for a week. For lack of electricity, wi-fi went out and cell-phone systems stopped working because the towers lacked power. You couldn't even recharge a cell phone.

What he and his wife had left at home were two forms of information & communication: battery-powered transistor radios, and landline telephone. So, in my household, we believe in the value of land lines.

If humans are intelligent they will pay attention to your relative's experience and leave the landlines intact.

When DD gets back from taking DGD to PT this morning, we have to shuffle off to Walmart. We could have gone over the weekend and put up with the crowds, but all the little darlings are back in school this morning so much more tolerable today.

I the meantime, I've got gardening stuff to do. I took a look when I went out with coffee. The @!#$%^&*! moles are making mincemeat outta the new lawn. Between the moles and the weeds...
I know! Moles!! 😠

Morning all folks......68F here this morn, up to 80 later, good chance of rain this morning,.....feeling okay today for some
reason LOL...I know about those moles GG I have more than
my share out there in this big lawn, I think they rotate between
my place and the graveyard across street, I finally gave up on
trying to get rid of them....no big plans for the day yet, too early..take care all !!!

I'm up but haven't gathered my wits yet. They probably ran off with my motivation yesterday.

Same old routine. Get dressed. Clean litter box. Make bed. Putter in garden.

The FB recipe that I made for last night's supper? I thought it was bland. The rest of the fam scarfed it down like they hadn't eaten in a week.

One of my aunts used to make casseroles topped with a biscuit crust. She insisted they'd eat anything as long as it had a biscuit crust. In this family, they'll eat anything topped with cheese.

On my early walk at 6:45,temp was a bit cool at 62 but refreshing as I strolled around building
Today I've invited 2 church friends, Kate &Bruce for lunch and to see my apt, been friends with them for a few yrs, . I look forward to seeing them
The rest of my day take another walk mid morning, one in the afternoon, read my book, NYT
After dinner tackle daily NYT crossword puzzle

17C here with a breeze that's making it fee cooler. Spent the morning shopping and have just had a slice of toasted cheese for lunch. Still have some shopping to pack away. A hinge broke on one of the kitchen cupboard doors, so I stopped by Screwfix and bought a new one. Hope it's the right size as there are loads of different ones.
